Fans flocked to today’s Nintendo Direct presentation once again hoping for news on a certain highly anticipated upcoming title, the sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Wishes were finally granted.

Breath of the Wild was released in March of 2017 alongside Nintendo’s current console, the Switch, following a story where Link awakens from a hundred-year slumber in order to defeat Calamity Ganon and once again save the kingdom of Hyrule. This critically acclaimed game’s open world concept, beautiful visuals, and impressive attention to detail garnered much excitement and enthusiasm from players.

The (still untitled) sequel was first announced at E3 2019 with a brief teaser, and as of today’s E3 2021 Nintendo Direct presentation, we now know that Nintendo is aiming for a release date sometime in 2022. Keeping in mind that the original Breath of the Wild took five years to develop, we can be sure that the sequel will most certainly be worth the wait.

In the meantime, we’ve finally been given another teaser with a more extensive look at what’s to come, included an expanded setting that will take players up into the skies above Hyrule!

Stay tuned for more news on the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
