Prodigies have been anxiously awaiting the fate of Prodigal Son and FOX today announced that the show has been cancelled and will not return for a third season.

The high octane drama follows profiler Malcolm Bright as he works with the NYPD to hunt down murderers while also balancing his intense family dynamic with his notorious serial killer father Martin Whitly. For two amazing seasons the show explored the nature of mental health, the inner workings of a deviant criminal mind, and all that goes along with working to capture them. Fans have come to love the complex relationships between the characters, the sharp witted humor, heavy emotional moments, and fast paced storytelling combined to create a truly unique show.

The cancellation may comes a shock to fans who have been campaigning hard for the renewal of the show despite the slow downward trend in ratings throughout the second season. The show has been on the bubble in many reports and it seems FOX has decided to end the journey after season 2.

Prodigal Son can still be watched on streaming platforms with season 1 on HBO Max and season 2 on Hulu.
