Watch: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki Talk Shop About ‘Supernatural’ in Interview With Variety

The second half of the final season of Supernatural debuts tomorrow and as such, promotion for the show has been geared up like crazy. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki recently joined Variety for an interview discussing the forced filming hiatus due to COVID-19, the upcoming episode “Last Holiday,” an episode idea they dubbed “Naked Supernatural,” bloopers, and more. If you haven’t already, check it out below!

In standalone episode “Last Holiday,” “Sam and Dean discover a wood nymph living in the bunker who is determined to protect her family, at any cost.” According to co-showrunner Andrew Dabb, the eccentric Mrs. Butters has the boys celebrate all of the holidays they’ve missed being holed up in the bunker — knowing the Winchesters, that might just mean all of them.

Padalecki maintains that the episode is “like the last breath you take before you’re about to take your final sprint,” set to give the audience some joy and laughter before getting back down to the nitty gritty of taking down Chuck and averting the apocalypse once again. He also confirms the somewhat troubling title as having a double meaning:

…we will see that episode not only as an homage to the holidays that the boys get to go through and had to miss, but even the bunker that’s become their home [and] how little Sam and Dean have asked for other things or gratitude. It’s a chance for the boys to enjoy this home that’s given them so much.

In addition to discussing the upcoming episode, the co-stars discussed an episode idea they had that unfortunately didn’t get developed due to the time crunch of the final season. The premise was “Naked Supernatural“,  “the ‘Naked Gun’ version of Supernatural“, Ackles explains, loaded with tongue-in-cheek humor. Both Ackles and Padalecki would be amenable to coming back to film the piece if given the chance.

While this interview teases the end of Supernatural‘s 15-year reign, true fans know that Supernatural will never die as long as the fans are around to promote its legacy. “Last Holiday” premiers tomorrow at 8/7 CT on The CW. Make sure to catch up on the season’s events with a season 15 recap and view promo pics of the newest episode!
