Ianto Jones is the last defender of Cardiff in a new Torchwood story from The Monthly Range called Torchwood: Ex Machina, out today! Gareth David-Lloyd is back as the beloved Torchood agent, Ianto Jones. He is joined by Laura Aikman (Gavin & Stacey, The Split) and Jacob Dudman (The Stranger, Medici) as Abigail Forehill and Luke, respectively.

Torchwood: Ex Machina is directed by Scott Handcock, produced by James Goss and written by Alfie Shaw. You can read the synopsis below:

Ianto Jones is Torchwood. Ianto Jones is the defender of a deserted city, a lone crusader who keeps the empty streets safe. One day he meets one of the few survivors. She needs his help – because she’s being chased by a darkness. A darkness which says it loves her.

Producer and Script Editor James Goss said:

What if Ianto was in charge of Torchwood? What if, one better, Ianto was Torchwood? Sworn to protect Cardiff from aliens and dedicated to vengeance against those who killed the love of his life? “It’s a chance to experience Gareth David-Lloyd create Ianto as we’ve never experienced him before – less Escape from New York, more Escape From Cardiff. Alfie Shaw has given us an amoral gunslinger who still makes great coffee.

Writer Alfie Shaw added:

Ianto’s an interesting figure in Torchwood for me. He’s got all this experience from Torchwood One, yet when we first meet him in Torchwood Three, he’s this backroom guy. It’s only as the series goes on that he gets to leave the Hub a bit more. In this, we isolate Ianto and get to show him being brilliant on his own. Although, Cardiff couldn’t ask for a better defender! I mean, the suit, the coffee-making skills… “It has been such a great time working on this with James Goss; he’s been so supportive and insightful with his notes. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing brought to life!

Actor Gareth David-Lloyd said:

I loved it initially because Ianto’s in the Hub on his own. I thought: what a great idea. The stories get more and more original and they haven’t yet got any more unbelievable.

Torchwood: Ex Machina is available purchase on the Big Finish website as a collector’s edition CD or as a download. Listeners can also save money by ordering a bundle with several Torchwood stories.
