‘Mulan’ Will Be Available On Disney+ September 4
Disney has announced that Mulan will receive a hybrid theatrical/VOD release on September 4. The film will be available for $29.99 to subscribers of Disney+ on that date and be released in theaters in areas where reopening allows for movie theater showings. It is not clear whether those who pay for Mulan will get the film on a rental basis or whether it will be theirs to own, though similar straight-to-VOD releases like Emma and The King of Staten Island were made available rental-only during their initial runs.
Mulan was originally set for release on March 27 before being delayed frequently due to the coronavirus pandemic. Its most recent postponement was to August 21, which is only one week away from The New Mutants on August 28. That film has not moved its release date yet. Disney has several other films releasing soon, including The New Mutants, and there is no word yet on whether this new hybrid format will be used for other future releases. We will update with new information as we get it.
