Louden Swain Releases “Medicated” Video, Isolation Style
Need a little pick-me-up in these trying times? Louden Swain has come to deliver with a twofold surprise in the form of the QuaranSwain Sessions.
Yesterday, guitarist Billy Moran requested that fans submit videos on Twitter performing the legendary kazoo solo from the band’s beloved song, “Medicated.” In pure Swain fandom fashion, the videos flooded in much faster than Moran’s original April 9 deadline. At that point, everybody knew something was coming, but what could it be?
Little did we know, we were inducting ourselves into the Kazoo Light Orchestra.
In the video below, the band performs A Brand New Hurt‘s “Medicated,” a song that has evolved into the ultimate audience participation piece after making the rounds at conventions for years. Nowadays, “Medicated” is a staple feature in the band’s quick acoustic Vendor Room Jam, consistently flanked by an army of kazoos in the crowd.
Abiding by the social distancing reality we’re all living in right now, Swain recorded their respective parts for the video from home, still managing to sound as fantastic as ever. But the real magic kicks in about two thirds into the song, when Moran’s intentions with sourcing an influx of kazoo videos finally becomes clear. The Kazoo Light Orchestra takes over for their shining moment as the fan-submitted videos are displayed in a large grid and played simultaneously in beautiful, plastic, buzzing harmony.
Make sure to follow Louden Swain on Twitter, because as per the video’s Youtube description … there’s more to come!
And when things become a bit more normal in the world again, you can catch Louden Swain at Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural conventions in North America, and their to-be-rescheduled show in Boston, MA.
