Bingeworthy: Netflix Originals Edition

TELEVISIONNETFLIXBingeworthy: Netflix Originals Edition

Looking for something to do while stuck inside? Netflix is the only way, especially with the loads of originals the streaming service offers. It’s hard to choose favorites, but with the shows on this list, it’s sure to help time fly. Netflix has originals made for everybody, so one of these shows must be the one for you, even if you’ve seen them all!

YOU

Based on the book series of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, YOU stars Gossip Girl alum, Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, an employee at a bookstore in New York. Everything seems normal until Guinevere Beck, portrayed by Dead of Summer‘s Elizabeth Lail, comes into the picture. Joe becomes obsessive and a little off the rails. After his stint in New York, he moves to Los Angeles under a new name, William Bettelheim, for a fresh start. But an ex who was supposed to be dead comes back into his life, and a new love interest, Love Quinn, portrayed by The Haunting of Hill House‘s Victoria Pedretti, may change that fresh start.

With season 3 confirmed, this series is a must-watch if you love messed-up romances, murder, and stalker dramas. Plus, if you ever wondered what Lonely Boy was up to after Gossip Girl ended, this is a great theory!

13 Reasons Why

Arguably one of Netflix’s most popular and controversial shows, 13 Reasons Why, also based on a book by Jay Asher, follows Clay Jensen as he listens to 13 tapes left by Hannah Baker after her suicide. The second season involves a civil legal battle between Hannah’s parents and Liberty High School, while season 3 deals with the murder of another student and trying to uncover who did it. The series is known for some graphic scenes and plots, so just a fair warning.

The show has been renewed for a fourth and final season, so make sure to watch, so you’re all set for what’s happening next!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This ARCHIE Comics series brings back Sabrina Spellman in a darker and grittier light than the classic ABC/WB series. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Kiernan Shipka as the teenage witch and Disney Channel’s Ross Lynch as her love interest Harvey Kinkle. If you’re looking for something similar to Melissa Joan Hart’s portrayal, this isn’t it. From the darker plots to the references to Hell and Satan and everything in between, these three seasons are full of the supernatural, romance, and comedy.

Season 3 was released in January, and a fourth season is already on the way. You don’t have to have watched the OG Sabrina the Teenage Witch or read the comics in order to fall in love with this show!

Daybreak

The short-lived post-apocalyptic series centers around teenagers trying to survive after a nuclear bomb explosion wipes out (almost) all adults. Josh, played by Colin Ford (who also portrayed a young Sam Winchester in multiple episodes of Supernatural), tries to find the love of his life, Sam Dean (definitely a coincidence), while also fighting off so-called “ghouls” and numerous gangs.

If you’re not one to stick to a series for very long, Daybreak only has 10 episodes, but each one will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Stranger Things

Known as one of Netflix’s most popular shows, Stranger Things follows a group of kids in the 80s whose friend disappears into the Upside Down, and a girl with strange abilities comes into play. The second season follows the aftermath of the events of the first season, while season 3 paints an even bigger picture.

Assuming you’ve already seen this amazing show, you can always rewatch the three seasons again to get ready for season 4!

On My Block

This comedy-drama series follows a group of high school students in an inner-city LA neighborhood as they deal with relationships, gangs, and stumble into some trouble. The cast is diverse, and the storylines are beyond praise; plus, there are some hilarious one-liners, and there’s a character or even a plot that surely everyone can relate to.

Season 3 of this series just premiered, so now’s a good time to catch up!

Other A+ Choices:

  • Cheer
  • The Circle
  • Insatiable
  • Lucifer
  • Orange is the New Black
  • The Society

Obviously, Netflix has a lot of originals in its library, so there’s no need to stop at just these. You can either binge these shows in one sitting or spread the episodes over a few days. Even if you’ve seen these shows already, you can always binge them again. Netflix Originals have heart, mystery, and something to relate to, and you’re always looking for more. Take your pick and begin a long stay in.
