The world knows Lin-Manuel Miranda for his hit Broadway musical Hamilton, which first opened in 2015 and is still selling out theaters wherever it is performed. However, not everyone knows that Miranda wrote another musical called In The Heights seven years before Hamilton. In The Heights won four Tony Awards in 2008 and is now being made into a feature length film set to release next year.
The story takes place over a three day period and follows the lives of a small neighborhood in New York City, Washington Heights, during the heat of summer. The all-star cast is led by Anthony Ramos (of Hamilton) who will take on the role of Usnavi, originally placed my Manuel himself. Joining Ramos are Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black), Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, The West Wing), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and so many more. Manuel will also have a small cameo as the colorful Piragua Guy, which can be seen briefly in the trailer below.
