Season 5 of ‘The Flash’ Sets Up Big Expectations
San Diego Comic Con had a big turn out for The Flash and the cast had a great time. Here are some of the things we learned!
The Flash has a theme this season and it’s “Legacy.” It’s not hard to see why considering Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton) get to meet their daughter, Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy). Nora is a speedster just like her dad, but we learn that she’s managed to get herself stuck in the past. Her reasons for coming back have yet to be revealed, but it seems like we can expect it to come to light soon. Grant said at the panel that Nora is clingy towards Barry, yet distant towards Iris. I think the reason for her going back may have something to do with that.
The big bad of the season was revealed to be Cicada, played by American Pie alum Chris Klein. His electric dagger looks awesome, as well!
One of the things that I was most excited about was the continuation of Killer Frost’s story. Killer Frost is the meta alter-ego of Caitlyn Snow (Danielle Panabaker). We were told to expect more about what exactly makes Killer Frost tick, as well as to see how she came to be in the first place. Additionally, Danielle will be making her directing debut with episode 18. She’ll be the first woman from the Arrow-verse to do so!
The epic 100th episode will be taking place this season and it will be directed by none other than Tom Cavanagh who plays (many versions of) Harrison Wells. (This season, he said to expect “Sherlock Wells”.) The episode will be the mid-season finale and will feature a big twist.
While they won’t say what that big twist is, of course, they did mention a few other things we could expect, including a showdown between King Shark and Grodd. (My money’s on Grodd.) A bromance between Cisco and Ralph is in the future, as well, as Ralph helps his colleague and friend deal with the heartbreak over breaking up with Gypsy. Barry will also be going back to work this season and Ralph will dig into being a detective more.
Grant said that the season 5 premiere is “the best script since the pilot.” Take a look at the trailer and tell us what you think!
The Flash will air on Tuesday, October 9th at 8/7c.
