New ‘9-1-1’ Preview Teases What’s in Store for Season 4 With Character Catch Up

The fourth season of 9-1-1 has finally begun, and it seems that we’re in for another harrowing and emotional roller coaster of episodes. FOX’s procedural drama follows the high-pressure experiences of first responders in Los Angeles, mainly focusing on the firefighters of Station 118.

The season premiere arrived this week, bringing with it this season’s big disaster: a treacherous mudslide resulting from a dam break. There’s plenty more to look forward to this season, including a crossover event with 9-1-1: Lone Star and the highly anticipated episode “Buck Begins.”

FOX shared a “Character Catch Up” video today.

The video, which features commentary from Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Aisha Hinds, shows various clips from season 4 and reviews what’s in store for some of the show’s main characters.

Athena and Bobby will have an “interesting dynamic” this time around, because she’s still covering from the attack at the end of season 3 and Bobby is going to want to support her and attempt to shoulder some of that pain for her.

Meanwhile, Bassett noted that there’s something “really intriguing” going on with Buck. At the end of season 3 Buck was finally able to fully free himself from the ghost of his past relationship with Abby, and now the first episode of season 4 teased that he has a quarantine crush that he won’t actually talk about. In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Tim Minear said that there’s “more to Buck’s COVID crush than meets the eye at first,” so seemingly we’re in for a twist in that department.

Maddie and Chimney have a baby on the way, but Chimney is going to have to learn to battle his fears in regards to the virus. In episode 1, it was shown that he’s still living in quarantine with Buck because he’s afraid. At the end of season 3, Athena’s ex-husband Michael not only received good news in regards to his tumor, but he also found romance again, too. Season 4 will explore his budding relationship with the doctor from the elevator. As for Hen, she will be working to balance her job as a paramedic and her new venture — medical school.

Finally, Athena and Michael’s daughter May has chosen to forego her freshman year of college and has instead begun working at the 9-1-1 dispatch center with Maddie!

What other surprises await in season 4 of 9-1-1? Stay tuned!

Catch 9-1-1 on FOX Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the spin-off 9-1-1: Lone Star at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
