A new generation of Liars is coming. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has officially been ordered by HBO Max. In true PLL fashion, the news came with an eerie teaser and a message from an old friend, saying, “It’s not what you think, bitches.”

Just three years after the end of the original series’ seven-season run and one year after the spin-off, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, HBO Max announced a reboot of the mystery drama. It won’t take place in Rosewood, Ravenswood, or Beacon Heights — but a new town, with new secrets and a new generation of Pretty Little Liars. Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Katy Keene creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Sabrina writer/producer Lindsay Calhoon Bring are the creators of the new series.
Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions and original producer Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television will be producing. Bring is serving as co-executive producer and writer, while Aguirre-Sacasa will be serving as a writer and executive producer alongside Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. Original series creator I. Marlene King will not be involved with the new show, having departed her overall deal at WBTV last year for a new deal at 20th Television.
Coming soon to @hbomax. Secrets to die for. A new generation of little liars. Very honored & excited to be working on this, especially with #CAOS super-writer and #PLL savant Lindsay Calhoon Bring. #originalsin #kissandkill #comingofRAGE #whereisangelawaters? 💅🏻👠🔥💋💄💃🏻🌹🎭🚑☠️ pic.twitter.com/37eFSleV3E

Pretty Little Liars ran for seven seasons on ABC Family/Freeform and followed four friends after the leader of their group goes missing. They’re tormented by an unknown person who goes by “A,” sending text messages and blackmailing them. It spawned two spin-offs, Ravenswood in 2013 and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists in 2019, both only lasting a single season. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, based on the bestselling books by Sara Shepard, follows a group of disparate teen girls in the blue-collar town of Millwood who find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago, as well as their own. Millwood will exist in the same universe as the original Liars, but will be a darker, present-day iteration of the predecessor.
All seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars are available to stream on HBO Max, while The Perfectionists is streaming on Hulu. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is coming soon to HBO Max.
