Podcast Spotlight: Come Hang out With the ‘Office Ladies’

I know I’m not in a minority when I say that I miss The Office. The little show that could spanned nine seasons from 2005-2013, giving its diehard fandom so many memories, iconic lines, and unforgettable characters that they still cherish to this day, six years after the show’s finale. The show still ranks high on the list of most-streamed programs on Netflix, proving that this classic is still resonating and bringing joy at the same rate as when it aired.

Two of the cast members, Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly-Halpert) and Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin), are best friends still to this day. They wanted to come together once again to both work side-by-side and bring a little piece of this timeless, lightning-in-a-bottle series back to the fans — and so, Office Ladies was born.

Office Ladies isn’t just a title born of these two’s history — it really is all about The Office. Each week, Angela and Jenna are re-watching the show with us, taking listeners back through each episode of The Office, in order, beginning with “Pilot.”

‘The Office’ co-stars and best friends, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, are doing the ultimate ‘The Office’ re-watch podcast for you. Each week Jenna and Angela will break down an episode of ‘The Office’ and give exclusive behind the scene stories that only two people who were there, can tell you.

Featuring “Fast Facts” about the show from Jenna, “Kinsey Tidbits” that Angela picked up on throughout the rewatch, and answers to fan submitted questions, this podcast is a do-not-miss for Office fans. Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) has already called in as a guest for their third episode, “Healthcare,” with many more familiar faces sure to join in on the nostalgic fun.

So what kind of facts are they dishing out? Well, without giving too much away, they’re going deep. In “Pilot” a few details they shared included learning about the casting process, why the US pilot was almost a word-for-word remake of the hit UK version by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (who also helped adapt this version!), what they changed to make it more relatable to US audiences, which cast member was the first to be cast, and who started their journey as a casting associate and was surprised with a supporting regular role!

In addition to delving deeper into the scripts, picking out noteworthy background happenings, sharing which scenes they couldn’t film without laughing, and insight into the cast, we also learn how they filmed it, what parts where improvised and scripted (they were improvising as early as episode three!), and just what made this show different from the rest. Like did you know three of the writers were regulars on the show? (One was hesitant, but which one was it?) And another made an appearance in season 1 after nailing the lines during table reads, so he went and auditioned for the part, and got it! Jenna and Angela credit having so many of the writers on set each day, acting as their own character, versus in a writers room to some of the magic of the show. The way everyone worked together and really understood each other’s roles and characters made everything come together so seamlessly into the magic viewers are still enjoying to this day.

The podcast is relatively new, with only six episodes available to date, leaving so much left to look forward to. It’s produced by Earwolf, and a new episode drops on Wednesdays on every major podcast platform. You can visit the website (with a store!) at www.officeladies.com and follow them on Twitter. Don’t forget to send in your fan questions, too! You can email officeladies@earwolf.com, and just be sure to put the episode title in the subject line.
