‘Ted Lasso’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 7 “Headspace”

Happy Ted Lasso day! We’re now in the back half of the season and things are heating up … and cooling down. Roy and Keeley butt heads, Ted is still going through it, and Nate needs to snap out of it, man! Let’s take a deeper look at everything that went down in “Headspace.”

Nate the Wonder Kid … More like wondering what his deal is.

Apple TV+

Something is going on with Nate. He’s been off all season, even more so after Roy Kent joined the coaching squad. However, in episode 6 Nate made the heroic call to win AFC Richmond the game! So this week, the question was will this reassure Nate as a valued member of the team, or will it go to his head? We got our answer, and we’re about to buy him a wheelbarrow to help cart his head around in.

At the very beginning of this episode, Nate spots himself on the back of his father’s newspaper. While we can only speculate, something tells me his relationship with his father is fueling this desire and need to prove himself as someone great. But, when Nate mentions his photo on the back of the paper, his father preaches humility. This was an interesting open to an episode that showed Nate being anything but humble.

Beard also notices the changes overcoming Nate, and he gives him a classic Beard talking to about it. And while Nate does redeem himself with Colin after Nate goes after him, one negative tweet sends him spiraling again, this time against William, the kit manager.

I don’t know what’s going on with Nate, but I do hope we get a nice mix of this more assertive version (versus his meek demeanor last season) and a more down to Earth Nate. I think we can all agree that would be ideal, yeah?

Sam and Rebecca are … still playing keep away

Apple TV+

Since that huge bombshell last episode, we’ve all been wondering what is going to happen with Sam and Rebecca. Turns out, we have to wait another week. While we didn’t get to see the big Bantr reveal this episode, we did get a little glimpse of their real-life banter as they met in the hallway. Sparks are clearly flying and they’re finishing each other’s sentences. The ball is in Rebecca’s court (or should we say on her pitch?) as Sam awaits her response to his invitation to meet in person. We’ll be waiting with bated breath to see how this plays out.

Ted gets personal-ly offended

Apple TV+

Ted suffered from another anxiety attack last week, walking off the pitch mid-game. So, he’s made an appointment with Dr. Fieldstone, and let’s just say Ted is less than receptive to therapy in general. He spends his time deflecting, then turns to insult, which is very unlike Ted. Turns out Ted hates therapists … a lot. But Sharon sticks with him and finally seems to crack through whatever wall Ted has up surrounding his painful secrets. In the end, Sharon helps him understand that therapy is truly a form of self-care, and sometimes when you’re a person who has put the needs of others before yourself for so long, self-care can be scary. As can finally knowing the truth.

This hesitancy to therapy is so common, but not something portrayed in a healthy manner. But breaking stereotypes (and toxic masculinity) is one thing that Ted Lasso loves to do. Instead of letting his distaste of therapy send Ted packing to rearrange his baggage and shove it down further, he sticks with it and refuses to quit, knowing this is the damn best thing for him.

Roy and Keeley hit a rough patch

Apple TV+

With Roy back at AFC Richmond, he and Keeley are now under the same roof at work and home. While Roy is ecstatic about getting to be around her all day, Keeley is less than thrilled with the lack of personal time she gets now. A feeling that is completely understandable and relatable. They get into their biggest fight we’ve seen yet over it, with Keeley finally exploding and Roy taking offense to how Keeley’s been telling everyone but him. Also understandable.

This rift could have been drawn out for multiple episodes, creating a tension that drags on until some big reunion, but as I said above, Ted Lasso is dismantling toxic masculinity and stereotypes. Instead, the pair resolve the issue by the end of the episode, with Roy abiding by Keeley’s healthy boundary (with the help of none other than Jamie Tartt). Roy’s complete acceptance of his misstep after examining his behavior and making it right with Keeley, who also apologized for her outburst, is a demonstration of good communication and a healthy relationship. Which, again, can be something sorely lacking from today’s media.

Top Ted-isms of the Week

Apple TV+

“Darn tootin’, Vladimir Putin.”

“Watch your back, Glenn Close.”

“You wanna get that sweet, sweet O2 all the way down to your prostate.”

“Have at it, Jessica Rabbit.”

“Well, like I always said, sometimes the best stew is the one you leave sitting on the stove cause you fell asleep watching Citizen Kane after too many beers.”

Catch the next episode of Ted Lasso exclusively on Apple TV+ next Friday, September 10. In the meantime, make sure to catch up on all of our Ted Lasso recaps!

Did the [REDACTED] Return in ‘Shang-Chi’s Post-Credits Scene?

Spoilers for Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings ahead!

Marvel Studios

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings finally premiered, and it was everything we wanted it to be and more. And while the film itself was phenomenal, it also brought back the unparalleled excitement of Marvel’s post-credits scenes.

In the Shang-Chi post-credits scene (the one all the way at the end, I hope you stayed …) we see Xialing taking up her father’s empire with the Ten Rings organization. Despite Shang-Chi stating his sister was dismantling it, it would seem she’s rebuilding it to be (hopefully) better. When the shot begins to pan out, we see a group of masked women fighting with their staffs, and it raised one question: have the Widows found themselves a new home?

The end of Shang-Chi marks seven years since we’ve last seen the freed Widows at the end of Black Widow. So, where does a group of super-assassins go, exactly? Well, probably to another woman trained to be a super-assassin. In fact, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that some of them participated in Xialing’s underground fight empire. They’re hard to beat, and Xialing has a deep understanding of what they went through.

So, if the Widows are teaming with the reformed (maybe?) Ten Rings organization, what does this mean? Well, we know from Black Widow‘s post-credits scene, everyone’s new favorite Widow is working with none other than Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Valentina has also acquired one other superpowered being, the newest Super Soldier, John Walker.

While we still don’t know what Valentina’s plan, with likely shady intentions, is for her new recruits, she’s collecting power. And what’s more powerful than the Ten Rings organization paired with a team of Black Widows and a Super Soldier? That’s a formidable group to have to face, no matter which side they happen to end up on. Let’s just hope it’s on the good one, but it can go either way with Valentina.

See our breakdown of both Shang-Chi post-credits scenes!

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is now playing in theaters.

‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings’: Let’s Talk About Those Post-Credits Scenes!

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is officially out in theaters, and as with all films in the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are some post-credits scenes to discuss.

This origin story stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

As the film came to a close, audience members that made the wise decision to stick around in their seats for a bit longer were treated to two additional scenes — a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. So what happened in them? Let’s take a look.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

Mid-credits scene

In the mid-credits scene, we see Carol Danvers (donning long hair again after her Endgame cut) and Bruce Banner (with his arm in a sling – still injured from Endgame?) holographically speaking with Wong, Shang-Chi, and Katy. The five of them are discussing the Ten Rings, and we learn that these mystical objects are older than a thousand years … by a lot.

Wong goes on to explain that the first time that Shang-Chi used the rings, they felt it in Kamar-Taj (the home and training grounds of the Masters of the Mystic Arts). Now, there’s a beacon that’s sending a message. Before Wong could explain what exactly that message is, Carol had to excuse herself to take care of other business. Bruce signed off shortly after.

Wong then told both Shang-Chi and Katy that the trajectory of their lives will be like nothing they have ever experienced before. And there’s no going back. He advised them both to go home and get some rest, because they have a long journey ahead of them.

However, when it comes to Shang-Chi and Katy, we’ve learned there’s no such thing as an early night. The scene skips over to the karaoke bar from earlier in the film, where Wong, Shang-Chi, and Katy are singing their hearts out to “Hotel California.”

Given the open-ended note that the discussion about the beacon with the mysterious message left off on, this certainly won’t be the last that we see of Shang-Chi.

Post-credits scene

In the post-credits scene, Shang-Chi’s younger sister Xialing is shown taking down the posters in her room at her father’s compound. She comes across a drawing of her mother and pauses.

We then see that she has clearly taken over the compound and the Ten Rings organization, and she’s already done some redecorating a la her underground fighting club.

The best part of all is that not only is the compound full of male warriors, but there are now also many female warriors training, too. This is a callback to Xialing’s wonder at seeing the female warriors in Ta-Lo, able to freely do something that she spent her childhood forced to learn in the shadows. We have a theory about who those female warriors might be.

The film closes out with one final message …

The Ten Rings will return.
