“Sure, you know the story of those wretched Dalmatians. But don’t I deserve a chance to tell my own side of the story? It is fabulous, after all.” You may think you know the tale: a happy young couple, one hundred and one Dalmatians, and the woman determined to turn them into a perfectly spotted fur coat. But who is that monster, that scene-stealer, that evil thing? Who is the woman behind it all? Even the cruelest villains have best friends, true loves, and daring dreams. After all, nothing is as simple as black and white.

In a surprise announcement, Boyfriend Material author Alexis Hall has announced a new novel! Murder Most Actual will be a Kobo exclusive release and follow a murder mystery that sounds to die for, if the description is any indication.
“When up-and-coming true-crime podcaster Liza and her corporate-financier wife Hanna head to a luxurious remote Scottish B&B for the weekend, they’re hoping for a chance to rekindle their marriage – not to find themselves trapped in the middle of an Agatha Christie-esque murder mystery with no way home. But who better to take on the case than someone whose entire profession relies on an obsession with all things violent and mysterious? Though some of her fellow guests may consider her an armchair sleuth, Liza knows a thing or two about murder most foul and – despite Hanna’s preference for waiting out the chaos behind a locked door – might be the only one capable of discovering the killer. As the body count increases and the stakes rise, can they save their marriage – and their lives?”
Murder Most Actual will be released on the Kobo platform on November 9, 2021. For more information on Kobo e-readers and to pre-order the book, head here!
In true 9-1-1 fashion, episode 2 of season 5 kicks off with quite the explosion as the blackout continues to wreak havoc on the city. Let’s breakdown the major events in “Desperate Times.”
The Hunt for Jeffrey Hudson
Jack Zeman /FOX
Detective Ransone ends up in the hospital for five days thanks to Lila’s attempted murder and ‘rescue’ of Jeffrey Hudson. When he wakes enough to write, he asks for Athena, who confirms Hudson is on at large. For five days, he’s been free, and they waste no time starting the manhunt. At Lila’s house, they find her dead body but no Hudson. Athena is inside his mind enough to know that he won’t flee the city.
“A city plunged into utter darkness is the kind of place he’d like to be.”
Athena makes the call to keep watch on the victim’s homes but not inform them about Hudson’s escape. When she visits Ransone again, he reminds her that she was also a victim. Someone should be stationed at her home as well. Michael has opened the house to the neighbors (since they have power), and it’s revealed Hudson is there playing a game with Harry.
Athena races home to find the house dark and Michael and David cleaning up. As the power kicks on, they realize Harry isn’t there. Hudson kidnapped Harry and is using Ransone’s badge to bypass security checkpoints.
Chimney Confides in Hen
Understandably Chimney tries to check in with Maddie throughout the blackout, and the stress ultimately leads him to confide in Hen about her postpartum depression. Hen reminds him that Maddie needs him to be her partner, not her doctor, and to focus on loving and supporting her. Meanwhile, at home, Maddie bathes Jee-Yun and nearly falls asleep beside the tub. Jee actually slips beneath the water for a few seconds before Maddie jerks awake. She rips Jee out of the tub and sobs as she holds her apologizing repeatedly. Maddie rushes her to the doctor, but Jee is perfectly healthy (thankfully). It’s clear Maddie feels immense guilt over what happened, and I’m sure this will only add to her ongoing struggle with her depression.
Eddie Faces the Truth About Ana
Jack Zeman /FOX
With Buck’s help, Eddie verbalizes the true cause of his panic attack. He’s not ready for how fast his relationship with Ana is progressing. From the misunderstanding of Ana as Chris’ mother to one this episode of the new probie thinking she is Eddie’s wife, Eddie feels like they are rushing faster than he’s ready for. However, Buck asks him what he plans to do. Eddie’s answer? He plans to stick it out. Not exactly a romantic declaration there, Eddie. Buck tells him that you can’t simply “stick it out” in a relationship. He cites his own history of being “the Ana” in a relationship where he knew the other person wasn’t all in and tells Eddie it’s painful and cruel. If Eddie isn’t in love with Ana (even though Chris loves her), he needs to talk to Ana about it. Eddie doesn’t act on the advice, but it’s obvious Buck’s words stick with him.
The Blackout Continues
Jack Zeman /FOX
As the blackout continues in LA, the 118 get up to some hilarious antics and crazy calls as usual. The episode opens with a dramatic rescue of two paramedics trapped in a helicopter on top of a hospital. Everyone, including the heart they were transporting, is saved!
While at the station, someone decides to give Buck a clipboard again (didn’t they learn the first time?), and he’s in charge of the portable phone charger units. Chimney has to threaten him just to get one, “Give me a charger, or Uncle Buck will never see his niece again.” Unsurprisingly, Buck relents.
We also see the culmination of the zoo call! The 118 arrive at the LA Zoo to treat an animal attack where Buck is put on “animal control,” which he, of course, takes seriously. Inside the store, Bobby and Hen find the victim of a vicious alpaca attack. Hen lures it away with chips as Bobby drags the man to safety. I can honestly say I had no idea alpaca were that vicious. The scene is gloriously reminiscent of Jurassic Park.

Roswell, New Mexico delivered another heart pumping episode filled with mystery and drama! Let’s break down what we learned in season 3, episode 10 “Angels of the Silences.”
Dallas Learns The Truth
The CW
The plan to tell Dallas the truth involved a calm discussion with Isobel and Kyle who would give scientific evidence to help Dallas understand. Of course, things never go to plan. Kyle gets arrested, Dallas gets suspicious, and Isobel is forced to tell Dallas the truth on her own. Dallas unsurprisingly doesn’t handle the news well (even though Isobel made a cute junkyard smiley face as demonstration). Things aren’t helped with Michael and Alex arrive with the Lockhart Box which has been flashing in Dallas’ mind every 47 days his whole life. We can’t even blame him for high tailing it out of there.
After Isobel’s fail, Michael finds Dallas at the lake and shares, “When I look at you I feel like I’m looking in a mirror.” It’s Michael who gets through to him, ultimately convincing Dallas to trust them. Back at the junkyard, Michael, Isobel, Kyle, and Alex fill Dallas in. Kyle believes the messed up frequency (thanks Jesse Manes) caused Dallas’ brain damage. The box holds the key to defeating an evil dictator and saving lives. Dallas, finding a peace in knowing the truth about himself, agrees to hear the message.
The Lockhart Machine’s Message
The season long mystery box has finally revealed its message! With Dallas now ready to hear the message (we love a show of consent), he sees a message from the consciousness of his father, Theo. The third in the triad of machine builders, Theo imparts some knowledge on Dallas. Firstly, the equation they need is embedded into Dallas’ consciousness (finally, we have the math!). Second, Jones must never have this information. While it severs the connection it will also mean his reign of terror could continue forever. No pressure right? He also tells Dallas to “trust in your triad,” together they can defeat Jones.
What a nice bow on this awesome storyline, right? Nope, two minutes before the end of the episode Dallas tells Kyle (in confidence) about the final message. “If we can’t separate Max from his destiny, the responsibility falls to me. I’ll have to be the one to kill him.” So not only do we get to worry about Kyle’s safety, our fears for Max have been renewed tenfold!
The Hunt For Heath
John Golden Britt/The CW
After the huge reveal that Heath not only knows about aliens but stole Liz’s research, much of this week’s episode is spent with Liz and Max hunting him down. Throughout we learn that Dallas and Heath are best friends and Heath tries to help Dallas with his abilities and “attacks” (from the Lockhart Machine). Dallas learns that this is causing brain damage of some kind, and Heath is now operating under the belief that Dallas is dying. Knowing this, it’s slightly easier to forgive Heath for making a deal with the actual devil to save his best friend’s life. Teaming up with Jones, Heath need only find the correct formula to sever the connection.
Thankfully, Liz and Max find him before he can piece everything together. She tells Heath she can help Dallas, he doesn’t need to side with Jones and he readily joins her and Max. Of course, we find out a few minutes later that Max is actually Jones and they are taken hostage (because we aren’t stressed enough already) along with the Sheriff.
The New Sheriff’s Gets Nosy
John Golden Britt/The CW
There’s a new Sheriff in town and she’s more than a little suspicious of Max, Isobel, Kyle … well pretty much everyone involved with our favorite aliens. Taylor has a keen eye and pieces together the type of burn marks on all of Jones’ victims, the burn marks in the getaway car, the electrical issues in the past and surmises that Max is at minimum, a suspect. The Sheriff suspends Max, which is a minor inconvenience at this point. She also arrives at Kyle’s office, warrant in hand, to get details on his whereabouts and the file on Max and Isobel. Kyle, bless him, burns the files before she can seize them and gets arrested for his efforts.
Later that night however, Taylor gets quite the shock. She’s just tased and handcuffed Max inside but runs outside to find Jones about to take Liz and Heath hostage. Jones uses her, forcing Liz to choose between cooperating and the Sheriff’s death. Of course Liz agrees to save her life! Jones does force her to shoot herself in the leg (the sadistic creep) but spares her for the moment. This complication in the plan means that Taylor will potentially be in on the Pod Squad’s secret in the very near future (and will hopefully lay off Max!).
Echo Returns
John Golden Britt/The CW
It finally happened, Echo fans! After a lot of difficulties and some real beating around the bush, Liz made a rather passionate love declaration to Max. Turns out Max Evans isn’t the only one who can make an excellent and moving speech. Naturally, the moment was interrupted before they could kiss but it’s definitely safe to say that (assuming everyone lives), we can expect another Max and Liz relationship attempt once Jones is defeated.
