‘Ted Lasso’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 11 “Midnight Train to Royston”

It’s the penultimate episode of Ted Lasso season 2 and it was a lot to say the least. Last week, we spent time with the team at Rebecca’s father’s funeral which ended with Rebecca cooling things off with Sam, and Jamie confessing his love for Keeley.

Read on to see what went down in this week’s episode and all of the implications that come with it!

Sam Obisanya: Will He Stay or Go?

Apple TV+

Edwin Akufo, a Ghanaian billionaire, has his eyes set on Sam joining a team he’s forming back on their home continent of Africa. He’s willing to buy Sam out of his contract to bring him home. We know from episodes past that Sam is very close with his family in Nigeria and that he’s willing to fight for the well-being of his country, so will he leave the Greyhounds, and Rebecca, behind?

Edwin certainly gave an impressive pitch, complete with a museum tour and an imported restaurant just for Sam, so it may be hard to refuse. However, the biggest factor for Sam to take into consideration is what Edwin said about wanting to distribute his wealth for the benefit of Africa. He doesn’t believe billionaires should exist, and he’s willing to dissipate his inherited fortune to improve the lives of everyone living back home. Improving the lives of Africans was one of Sam’s biggest endeavors earlier this season with Dubai Air.

Of course, Rebecca is torn about how she should approach Sam, knowing what going home would mean to him, but also not wanting to lose him. In the end, she does tell him she doesn’t want him to leave but doesn’t stay to listen to his answer.

What will Sam do? He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place here before the finale. And what will Richmond do without their star player that put them within one win of making it back into the Premier League?

Are Roy and Keeley Heading Towards Disaster?

Apple TV+

Houston, we have a problem. Last week, Roy and Keeley were a bit out of sync over finale rites and Jamie dropped that very inappropriate bombshell (we were just starting to like you, Tartt), and this week things aren’t going any better.

Keeley has landed a Vanity Fair interview, because she’s effing amazing, and spends the episode doing what she does best: helping people and looking good while doing it. She takes Nate shopping with her when she goes to find the perfect fit for her shoot, and Nate does what he’s done best this season and be entirely out of line, kissing Keeley in the shop. (More on HIM later …)

Meanwhile, Roy goes to get Phoebe from school (a few hours late) and ends up staying to help her teacher, Ms. Bowen, prep for a fundraiser. While nothing happens, something happens. Roy is really at ease around Ms. Bowen, like a little too much, but not in a weird, creepy way, in an unsettling to Roy and Keeley fans way. When she asks if Roy’s married he tells her no, but also doesn’t mention he’s not single either.

However, when Roy and Keeley reunite for her shoot things seem to be perfect between the two, with Roy giving Keeley that soft look only she can pull from him. He reassures her nerves about her shoot, and then when it’s time for him to join her for their duo shots, for some reason they thought this was a great time to have a talk.

Keeley admits Nate kissed her that day, and Roy is shockingly (and let’s be real, disappointingly) fine with it. Then it’s Roy’s turn to confess that he didn’t tell Ms. Bowen he was in a relationship. After that, things go south quickly when Keeley tells Roy about Jamie. Roy doesn’t have a response, but his face says it all.

We still don’t know how Keeley feels about Jamie’s confession, either. All signs point to a downfall in the finale for Roy and Keeley, but I’m crossing every finger and toe it all works out. Every. Single. One.

Ted’s Truth Surfaces

Ted was back in tip-top shape this episode. Clearly, Dr. Sharon fixed him right up last week. Speaking of Dr. Sharon, Ted has quite the spectacular event planned for her going away including an envelope of cash and the team performing an absolutely exquisite choreography to N’Sync’s timeless classic “Bye Bye Bye.” She’s going to love it.

But Dr. Sharon leaves a day early, leaving behind a stack of letters for everyone on the team in lieu of an in-person farewell. Ted’s not having that. He waits at her apartment for a proper goodbye, and he gets it. We still want to see what in her letter brought tears to his eyes though …

Ted gets his send-off, spending the night at the Crown and Anchor for some beers and pinball, getting the last laugh as he leaves Dr. Sharon with one of his signature Army men and a note.

Seemingly all is well in Ted-land, finally, but Trent Crimm of The Independent sends him a text with an article heading out the next morning. “Coach Lasso suffered panic attack during FA Cup match.” We do see a glimmer of the respect these two men share as Trent shares where he got the scoop from.

Nate.

Will this lure Dr. Sharon back to AFC Richmond? How is this going to affect Ted going forward, having everyone know his secret? And my God, please tell us Nate is fired

What the Hell Nate?!

He’s done it this time. Nate has been on thin ice this entire season thus far, but now he’s gone crashing through into the icy depths. First, he kissed Keeley, which is extremely inappropriate, especially because her boyfriend is his co-worker. But then he spilled the details on Ted’s panic attack to Trent in an attempt to gain power over Ted.

This entire season has been Nate’s attempt to gain fame and power, both in life and with himself, but he’s really not going about this the right way. Now, he’s thrown his number one supporter under the bus in the cruelest of ways. At the clothing shop, Keeley eggs Nate on unknowing of his previous less-than-tasteful actions, empowering him to take charge, be the boss, and that no one really understands people like them. And Nate’s response was to sacrifice Ted, likely in an attempt to gain top dog status at Richmond or get hired elsewhere.

Nate made it clear he’s not interested in team efforts this week as well. He wants the glory for himself and he’s not willing to water anyone else’s crops, only his own. How this will play out is going to be ugly and likely frustrating. Beard is already suspicious, now Roy knows he’s kissed Keeley, and he’s even found a way to betray Ted. They have one episode left to tie up Nate’s arc, and at this point in the game it’s all still very messy.

Top Ted-isms of the Week

Apple TV+

“Call me Dumbo cause I’m all ears.”

“Firm yet comforting, you know, like a weighted blanket for my hand toes.”

“You hear impossible, but all I hear is I’m possible.”

“Trickle-down economics may stink, but trickle-down support smells like pizza, roses, and I assume Viola Davis.”

“Listen to your gut. And on your way down to your gut, check in with your heart. Between those two things, they’ll let you know what’s what.”

Catch the final episode of Ted Lasso season 2 exclusively on Apple TV+ next Friday, October 8. In the meantime, make sure to catch up on all of our Ted Lasso recaps!

‘The Great British Baking Show’ Recap: Season 12, Episode 2 “Biscuit Week”

0

We are back with the second episode of The Great British Baking Show. This week the remaining 11 bakers are taking on “Biscuit Week.” So grab yourself a cup of tea, your favorite biscuit and let’s dig in.

Signature Challenge

For their signature challenge, the bakers were asked to make brandy snaps in two hours. Sounds simple? It was not. The bakers were asked to bake 24 brandy snaps. They could be any shape and flavor but had to be perfectly laced biscuits with a good snap and all identical. The bakers all seemed to struggle with this challenge. They were all pushed for time due to the batch baking required. However, most seemed to fair well in this challenge.

Crystelle stood out in this challenge with her apple pie and crumble inspired brandy snaps. Her snaps had a lovely crunch and the judges loved the flavors and textures of the chunks of apple. Lizzie also stood out for her “fast-food apple pie” snaps, based on her favorite apple pies from a fast-food chain that had to remain unnamed. She received good feedback for her delicious brandy snaps despite her biscuits not being very lacy and the judges were a bit sceptical after she described her stewed apple topping as “claggy.”

Flavor king Jürgen triumphed once again. He made spiced brandy snaps with chai, cinnamon and cardamom. His snaps were very thin, had a lovely crunch and judges loved his well-balanced blend of spices.

Giuseppe had a bit of a rollercoaster of a challenge with his chocolate and hazelnut brandy snaps. The other bakers made their brandy snaps before their fillings due to the need to batch bake. However, Giuseppe made the controversial decision to make his crème pat before his snaps so that it had time to chill. The judges were not convinced that he would finish in time. This led to him rushing to make his brandy snaps and there was a heart-stopping moment where he dropped his baking tray with his snaps on as he tried to put them in the oven. Luckily, none of them landed on the floor and were all saved. It all turned out well in the end as the judges praised his brandy snaps for being very pretty, delicious and crisp even though his chocolate flavor wasn’t very strong.

The Great British Baking Show

On the other end of the scale, Jairzeno struggled with this challenge. This didn’t seem too surprising as he struggled with timing in his showstopper challenge last week. His chocolate passion fruit and pineapple brandy snaps were very messy as he rushed towards the end. The judges also thought that his flavors were too strong.

Surprisingly, Maggie (who did very well last week) also struggled with this challenge. Her blackcurrant brandy snaps were very tasty but unfortunately, she hadn’t baked her snaps for long enough. This meant that they were chewy rather than crunchy and her filling had also made the biscuits even more soggy.

Technical Challenge

For the technical challenge, the bakers were asked to produce a sandwiched jammy biscuit. The recipe was set by judge Paul and he wanted perfection. The judges expected a short biscuit sandwiching buttercream and jam. The bakers had one hour and 45 minutes to produce 12 biscuits. The biscuits would then be ranked in a blind judging from worst to best.

Once again, this challenge seemed fairly simple on the surface. However, the judges wanted all of the elements to be perfect. The bakers also needed to ensure that the biscuits were the same size and shape on the top and bottom and the biscuits needed a swirl pattern pressed into them with a neat heart shape cut out of the middle.

The main challenge was that the tent was warm during this challenge. The buttery biscuit dough tended to melt unless the bakers were chilling it in the fridge as much as possible. The bakers also needed to chill the dough in order to get the stamped swirl on it. However, if they spent too long chilling their biscuit, they risked the biscuits being too hot to put the buttercream on after they had been baked.

What really seemed to divide the bakers was whether they chilled their biscuits after stamping them but before baking them. Those who painstakingly decided to wait and chill their dough had their patience pay off as they all placed near the top. Amanda came in fourth, Freya in third and Giuseppe in second. Jürgen narrowly beat him to first due to his exquisite looking biscuits that had good definition and consistency.

Those who didn’t chill them first lost the definition on their swirls and placed low. Jairzeno came in ninth place due to losing the definition on his swirl, his uneven biscuit sizes on the tops and bottoms and his hard biscuits. Crystelle came in tenth place mainly due to her poor jam. She had overboiled it and so it changed the entire texture of the biscuits. She received some rather brutal feedback from Paul that he could use her jam to paste a poster on the wall. Rochica came in eleventh place as she was struggling for time because she burnt her jam and had to redo it. This meant that she didn’t have enough time to chill her biscuits and so it had no swirl and the biscuits were almost raw.

The Great British Baking Show

Showstopper Challenge

The bakers were faced with a real challenge for their showstopper. They had four hours to build a 3D replica of their favorite childhood toy that had to have an interactive element. Once again, the bakers also had to double as engineers. Most bakers decided to use gingerbread due to its sturdy nature as most other biscuits are too soft for 3D building.

Jürgen impressed the judges by creating the tallest toy. He explained that he didn’t have many toys growing up but his grandfather had made him a windmill that they placed in the garden. Jürgen constructed his windmill from gingerbread and tuille biscuits for the sails. It was a very impressive structure and the sails turned around. The judges also loved the flavor which wasn’t overly sweet.

Giuseppe also impressed with his Reversi game. He made the board game from gingerbread and his game counters from chocolate and orange sable biscuits. Impressively, he had even created a rounded recess for the counters to sit in. The judges loved the engineering and his classic flavors.

Chigs showed off his baking prowess with an incredible snooker table made of spiced gingerbread. He made the snooker cues out of biscuit and the balls out of fondant icing. Although Paul pointed out that he had a row of red balls missing. The judges thought it was very clever and Prue particularly liked the slightly cakey texture of the middle of the gingerbread.

So many of the bakers made amazing toys. I wish I had the time to write about them all but I would highly recommend heading over to The Great British Baking Show Twitter to take a look at them all.

On the other hand, Maggie struggled with this challenge. She made a beach playset from gingerbread. Paul thought it was rather basic and that because it was simple, it would have needed more elaborate decoration to stand out. Her gingerbread was also a bit too thick and heavy.

Jairzeno also struggled with his spiced gingerbread sailing ship. The judges liked the taste of his gingerbread but his ship looked very messy. He had a problem with one of his masts breaking and collapsing. This led to him admitting that it looked more like a shipwreck.

Amanda had the most heartbreaking moment of the episode. She decided to be different and not use gingerbread. Instead she used American sugar cookies to build her rocking horse. She had practiced it three times before and it had always worked. Unfortunately her lemon and cardamom cookies cracked and collapsed as she tried to assemble her horse. She tried to glue it back together with sugar but this sadly didn’t work. The judges praised her bravery for using a different biscuit and they thought it was delicious. If it hadn’t have collapsed, the judges said it would have been one of the best biscuit creations they had ever had.

The Great British Baking Show

Results

Jürgen managed to beat Giuseppe to be “Star Baker” again this week. They have both established themselves as very strong competitors and I wouldn’t be surprised to find them both in the finals.

This week Maggie and Jairzeno were both in trouble. It was a surprise to find Maggie in the bottom considering how well she did last week. It surprised Maggie that she was safe this week and Jairzeno ended up being eliminated. Unfortunately, he struggled too much with time management and so his bakes tended to end up rushed and messy.

Baking Show Best Bits

Here are some of my favorite non-baking moments from this week’s episode!

  • Lizzie admitting that during her practice bake in the tent, she put on one of the Harry Potter films and didn’t end up baking at all.
  • Giuseppe calling Jürgen the “baking terminator” because nothing stops him. Giuseppe pointed out that he may not have an Austrian accent but his German accent is fairly close.
  • Freya helping Amanda trying to fix her bake. It was a lovely display of how the bakers help one another when they can. It may not have worked in the end but at least Freya tried. Even if it wasn’t particularly reassuring when she told Amanda that horses are generally shot when they break a leg.

Next week, the bakers will compete in “Bread Week”. Make sure you check it out on Netflix next Friday, then check back here for the latest recap!

Nerds Gets Spooky: 40 Years of ‘The Evil Dead’ Films

0

1981 cult horror masterpiece The Evil Dead is celebrating its 40th anniversary in just a couple of weeks. As such, it only feels right to start off spooky month with a look at one of the largest and most successful horror franchises to date.

The Evil Dead (1981)

New Line Cinema

At the time, director Sam Raimi had just left Michigan State University after three semesters to seriously pursue a career in film with his close friends and colleagues, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert. Through family, friends, and investors Raimi was able to finance production to film The Evil Dead, which launched his career that now spans over five decades. While the film was not wildly successful initially, it has become a monolith in the horror genre. The Evil Dead is the pinnacle of cabin in the woods movies, truly setting the bar for how terrifying the woods and isolation can be. It may have been low-budget, but through innovative visual storytelling Raimi truly establishes his one-of-a-kind style.

The cast as a whole delivers, with Campbell’s portrayal of Ash Williams instantly becoming a classic in the horror genre. Ash is a different type of character that we don’t see a ton in the genre; rather than a final girl, we have a final boy. Ellen Sandweiss (Cheryl Williams), Richard DeManincor (Scott), Betsy Baker (Linda), and Theresa Tilly (Shelly) all deliver believable and gripping performances as their characters. However, we would be remiss to not mention the stand-out performance of Baker, who’s maddening giggles following Linda’s possession just have a way of sticking with you. The laughter is truly one of those sounds you will never forget.

Why You Should Watch it This Halloween

The Evil Dead is not the steady, slow-build that horror audiences see in most of the genre. The evil isn’t hiding around a corner to jump out and scare you; the evil is in the woods and at the same time the woods themselves. It surrounds and engulfs its victims mercilessly. Following the, in our opinion, unnecessary woods scene with Cheryl (you know the one, about 25 minutes in) the film does not let up, providing viewers with violent scare after violent scare. With no interest in censorship, Raimi elected to make The Evil Dead as violent and gruesome as possible. The decision resulted an X rating for Raimi’s debut film, which at the time was mostly reserved for pornographic content. The film was, and still is, banned in some countries due to its graphic depictions of violence.

If you really want to elevate your The Evil Dead viewing experience, we recommend staying up late and figuring out when to turn the movie on so the film ends as the sun rises real-time for you. This method is much more immersive and will truly leave you on the edge of your seat.

The Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987)

Rosebud Releasing Corporation

The Evil Dead 2 took a sharp turn out of the horror genre and directly into the horror-comedy genre. It might not seem that different, but the differences are immense when you watch the films back to back and watch with a critical eye. The sequel came six years following the original and takes on some humorous themes that manage to make the continued extreme violence from this franchise more palatable.

If you’ve already seen The Evil Dead 2, you probably still have a couple of questions: Is it a sequel, or is it a remake? The answer is yes, and also yes. We could probably personally have Bruce Campbell explain this to us and still not completely understand. He refers to the 1987 film as a “requel,” meaning it is both a remake and a sequel. I’m honestly just not quite sure how that works, but regardless, the film is both a continuation of the original film and a remake of the story at the same time. Regardless of whether or not we understand the “requel” premise, we remain enthusiastic about the second film in this franchise.

Why You Should Watch it This Halloween

The Evil Dead 2 narrowly missed receiving an X rating due to a transfer/sale of domestic theatrical release rights just before the release of the movie. The result was that the movie came out with no rating, though The Evil Dead had already made a reputation for itself and audiences knew what to expect the second time around. Studio executives were positive The Evil Dead 2 would receive an X rating had it gone through evaluation, but were unwilling to push for cuts to be made to the movie. Before the release of the film, De Laurentiis Entertainment Group president of marketing and distribution Lawrence Gleason stated it would have been “…very tough to cut the film for an R rating and keep it in the same spirit its audience expects from it.” Thankfully, the film’s original cut was kept and the franchise had the opportunity to continue to flourish.

If for nothing else, you should watch The Evil Dead 2 this Halloween to see the birth of Ash’s chainsaw hand.

Army of Darkness (1992)

Universal Pictures

The Evil Dead 2 ended with a perfect set-up to a third installment to the franchise, which would five years later become Army of Darkness, again starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. Rather than fighting demons in the secluded Tennessee woods in the 1980s, Ash is now fighting both the dead and medieval knights in his journey to find the Necronomicon in order to return home. Unfortunately, Ash instead unleashes the evil in the book once again and with it an army of the dead.

Army of the Dead not only elevates the humor aspect that was brought into the franchise with The Evil Dead 2, but adds a new adventure element reminiscent of films Raimi grew up loving such as Clash of the Titans. Where The Evil Dead 2 put horror on the back-burner to be a comedy, Army of Darkness puts both horror and comedy on the back-burner to evolve to an action/adventure film, with the aforementioned genres still making themselves known throughout the film.

Why You Should Watch it This Halloween

If you have already watched the first two movies in this installment, it really is worth going ahead and watching Army of Darkness to finish out the original trilogy that spawned a media empire and launched the careers of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. The film is much more lighthearted than its predecessors, and might be a nice relief to watch after the heavy violence of the first two films.

Evil Dead (2013)

Sony Pictures

If you’re not one for remakes, you probably gave the 2013 remake of The Evil Dead the side-eye and made a promise to yourself to never watch it. This article is your sign that you should break that promise to yourself and go ahead and give this particular remake a fair chance. Almost a complete reimagining of the 1981 classic, Raimi and Campbell still teamed up to bring The Evil Dead back to the big screens.

Rather than a group of teens trekking away into the mountains for a booze-filled weekend, this group of five heads to the remote cabin so Mia (Jane Levy) can safely stop using drugs cold turkey and go through withdrawal surrounded by friends and family. The original The Evil Dead was critiqued (by some) and even made its way onto “banned movies lists” in some places for its violence, but the remake makes the original look tame. This is the type of gore that will make you want to look away because it is just too hard to watch some of the violence.

Why You Should Watch it This Halloween

To put it as simply as possible, 2013’s Evil Dead will simply scare you more than the rest of the franchise. Thanks to advancements in technology and special effects, everything about this film feels incredibly real (almost too real). Evil Dead is bloodier, more gruesome, more violent, and more tangible in the current day and age.

Plus, what says Halloween more than a scene where blood rains from the sky?

Evil Dead Rise (2022)

If you haven’t had enough of The Evil Dead just yet, there’s good news for you. After just about every further film development stayed in purgatory for years following 2013’s remake. However, a fifth film installment to the franchise started filming June of this year. Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin will head Evil Dead Rise as writer and director, with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell as producers. The film is set to be released by HBO Max in 2022. Check out the official premise for the film below.

“In Evil Dead Rise, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped LA apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The original trilogy is available to stream on HBO Max, and if that’s not enough to sink your teeth into there is plenty more Evil Dead content to soak up, including television, video games, and even a musical!

‘Riverdale’ Recap: Season 5, Episode 18 “Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal”

0

The Riverdale musical episode is here! In “Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal,” Alice creates a musical fantasy following Polly’s death to ensure everything’s fine with her life while Betty tries to bring her back to the real world. Meanwhile, Veronica and Archie take the next step in their relationship, as do Jughead and Tabitha.

Keep reading to find out what happened in this week’s episode of Riverdale, “Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal.”

The Polly Aftermath

Following the discovery of Polly’s body, Betty and her mother are barely holding it together. Betty meets with the gang at the Whyte Wyrm. She’s holding up as well as she can, Dagwood and Juniper are surprisingly okay and Cheryl has taken them for a few days. Alice, meanwhile, is listening to a Next to Normal cast album on repeat. She had taken Polly and Betty to the musical on Broadway one year for Mother’s Day. It’s like it could be about them. Betty doesn’t know what her mom is feeling or thinking, just that she’s listening to it over and over again.

Betty tries to get through to Alice, who is grieving and listening to musicals and looking at family photos. She needs to move on but Alice isn’t listening to her. It’s not just that she misses Polly, she misses everything.

Betty later finds her mother singing at a piano in the living room, which she ordered on “Glamazon.” Alice keeps bringing up the past, but all Betty wants to do is focus on the present.

Dinner that night is less than normal, as Alice has gone a little overboard. As Betty is trying to get through to her mother, Polly and Charles are at the table. Alice has everything she needs, all of her children. Betty brings out Polly’s ashes, hoping to bring Alice some closure. Though Polly tells Alice that she’s sitting right there. Betty suggests they see a Broadway show, it could be good for the both of them. Alice agrees.

Betty and Alice get ready to leave and as Betty names off everything she planned and the two business class tickets, Polly wonders why only two. Alice tries to explain to Polly and Betty tells her to not go there, it’s just memories.

The Truth Comes Out

The CW

When Betty tries to tell Alice that she’s always been there, Alice begs to differ. She tells Betty she wasn’t there. She begged her to stay and she left for seven years. When she did finally come back, it all started with Polly. Betty drove her away.

“She’s dead because of you.”

Betty meets with Kevin and confesses what’s going on with her mother. She’s just lost, they both are. Betty figures maybe it is her fault Polly’s dead, but Kevin tells her it’s not.

She later takes the record player out of the house. Years ago Betty made Alice a promise she’d come back to Riverdale, but she broke that promise. Now she’s making a new one.

“I’m not leaving you alone, ever.”

Charles and Polly head down the stairs to leave one last time. All Alice wanted was for them to be a normal family. But maybe next to normal is good enough.

Next to Normal

And so, the musical begins! This episode is unlike previous musical episodes and is definitely more emotional. We start with Alice at the Cooper household wearing a traditional, perfect family, perfect mother dress and singing “Just Another Perfect Day.” The song perfectly, and weirdly, describes the Coopers. Charles comes in wearing a Riverdale High letter jacket, while Polly comes down the stairs wearing a cheerleading outfit. Betty then comes in, also wearing a traditional perfect daughter outfit. It’s like they’re in the 50s or 60s. The line, “Doesn’t kill me” is repeated, like it’s skipping, and Betty stops the record in the real world.

“I Miss the Mountains”

The CW

As Alice is looking through photos, she sings the next song that recounts everything she misses. Betty goes along with her, singing but also closing the photo album and trying to get her out of it. While Alice misses the mountains and her life, Betty misses her mother.

“Perfect for You”

A Jughead and Tabitha duet? Yes please! Following a potential girlfriend/boyfriend talk, the two of them sing at Pop’s about their relationship. Cole Sprouse may not have wanted a singing career while he was on Disney Channel, but boy does he have the voice of an angel! His and Erinn Westbrook’s voices fit perfect together, and this is just the beginning of what will be “Jabitha.” As the song ends, the two kiss.

“Everything Else”

As soon as the duet ends, we’re taken back to the Cooper house to find Betty, Alice and Polly sitting down at the piano and singing. Though Betty comes into the living room to find Alice singing and playing by herself.

“It’s Gonna Be Good”

Dinner at the Coopers has turned into a showstopper with Alice, Polly and Charles, singing about how good it’s going to be.

“She’s Not Here”

Betty tries her hardest to tell her mom that Polly is no longer there, she’s got to let her go. Polly and Charles get up from the table and Alice sobs.

“Didn’t I See This Movie”

The CW

It’s not a Riverdale musical episode without a solo Cheryl number! At the ministry, Cheryl sings this to her mom as she almost tries to perform an exorcism. Penelope keeps walking backward as Cheryl walks forward and splashes holy water on her face.

“I’m Alive”

Just before Betty and Alice leave for the city, Polly comes from behind and tries to convince Alice that she’s “alive” and more than just a memory. Betty tries to get her mom to leave but Alice doesn’t listen. Charles pops out of nowhere and also starts singing. Polly and Charles sing to their mom, telling her that they’re alive.

“I Am the One”

Trying to break through to her mom, Betty butts in and starts singing. She’s always been there. Polly, meanwhile, waves to Alice to come over. They need her, but Betty needs her as well. Alice sits down between Charles and Polly, who continue singing. Charles and Polly get up and when Alice turns her head to look at them, Betty moves her head to look at her.

“I’ve Been”

When Betty meets with Kevin and she admits what’s going on at home, the two of them begin singing. Kevin tells her, or sings to her, she shouldn’t give up now because she and Alice shouldn’t be alone.

“Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I’m Falling”

Immediately going into the next song, Kevin tells Betty to make up her mind, while Betty, Veronica, and Toni sing in desperation and perfect unison in different places. Kevin tells Betty to go back to her mother, pick up the pieces and catch each other.

“Hey #3/Perfect for You”

Jughead shows up to dinner with Tabitha and her parents and this duet is beautiful. The two of them leave to be by themselves and they solidify their relationship. While they and their relationship aren’t perfect, they will be perfect for each other.

“A Promise”

After promising Alice she won’t leave her, ever, Betty sings it to her. She’s there. Alice apologizes to Betty and the two of them hug. She never meant those horrible things she said.

“Maybe (Next to Normal)”

The CW

Alice takes the urn with Polly’s ashes and just holds it. Betty sits down next to her and tries to convince her in song that things will get better. Maybe they can’t be okay, but maybe they’re tough and they’ll try anyway.

“Light”

We could all use a little light after a tragedy. The final song sung in this episode is all about the light we need, and the light the characters need. Following Polly’s memorial, everyone needs a breather. Back at the memorial, everyone is singing at Polly’s grave, including the twins. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking scene. It reminds us that “there will be light” in the darkest of times.

Varchie Takes the Next Step

The CW

It’s time for Veronica and Archie to take the next step! Now that Veronica is officially divorced from Chad, she suggests to Archie it’s time they make up for those seven years after graduation they lost. Maybe it’s time they move in together. They both think it’s a great idea and Veronica moves in with Archie, as well as Uncle Frank and Jughead.

Veronica cooks dinner for her, Archie, Frank and Jughead. However, just as they’re beginning to dig in, Archie and Frank’s phones go off, indicating a fire. The two of them leave and not wanting to deal with the awkwardness, Jughead takes his plate to eat in the garage.

Veronica hears the shower running while sleeping and assuming it’s Archie, goes into the bathroom all ready for him, but it turns out to be Jughead. Frank is in the shower and it’s found out that Archie slept at the firehouse. Veronica is not so happy about her sleeping arrangements.

After thinking about their future together, Veronica tells Archie they should step back. They’re not in high school anymore.

Could This Be the Start of Jabitha?

The CW

Tabitha shows Pop’s off to her parents and although she thought it would be nice to have dinner there for Mother’s Day, her parents made reservations for a much fancier restaurant. Upset at her mom and dad, Tabitha asks Jughead, who is merely cleaning tables, if that works for him. Going along with the plan, Jughead tells Tabitha it works great. Tabitha tells her parents that the busboy is also her boyfriend.

After her parents leave, Tabitha tells Jughead it’d be great if she had a buffer at dinner and Jughead is in. Though if she wants, she could just ask him to be her real boyfriend. But his timing couldn’t be less perfect.

“Riverdale, and the rest of the world, are in a perpetual state of crisis. There’s no such thing as perfect timing.”

It’s dinnertime with the Tates, but Tabitha’s father is still not over the fact she left Chicago to run the family business since she had a great career. Jughead shows up, looking as dapper as ever. Wanting to be alone, Jughead and Tabitha ditch Tabitha’s parents.

What Else Happened?

The CW

In the midst of the musical fantasy, not everything was as important so here are some other things that happened in the episode!

  • Reggie has officially decided to pursue being a licensed stockbroker and has Veronica help him, though Veronica reminisces the life she had.
  • Desperate to find Britta a home after her parents kicked her out, Toni resorts to asking Cheryl for help. Since Cheryl went through what Britta is going through, Toni thought she’d be able to offer her a place to stay. Toni loved her and she knows the love she has. Cheryl agrees.
  • Toni and Fangs confess their love to each other.

And so another Riverdale musical episode has come and gone! Ships have sailed and ships have sunk, there was closure, there was emotion and there was plenty of music. Can’t get enough of the songs? Check here to see where you can stream and download the soundtrack!

Don’t miss the season 5 finale of Riverdale this Wednesday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on The CW!
