Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Jefferson White, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham, and Gil Birmingham, will all be returning to reprise their roles.

Yellowstone begins production for season five sometime in May.

‘Batwoman’ Recap: Season 3, Episode 11 “Broken Toys”

On this week’s Batwoman, Camrus Johnson steps behind the camera to direct a suspenseful episode. Marquis continues to pose a major threat, especially to Batwoman’s identity. Alice and Mary seek help with the joy buzzer, and Sophie and Luke team-up. Read on to find out what happens in “Broken Toys.”

Looming Threat

batwoman season 3 episode 11
Colin Bentley/The CW

Mary and Batwoman head to the clinic to find Marquis gone but a creepy doll bearing a threat in his place. Back at The Hold Up, the group assesses the joy buzzer. Luke thinks he can use the AI to get some answers, and Mary admits she gave it to Marquis. Alice says she knows someone who can help, leading the group to learn about a woman named Kiki Roulette. They find an address, and Mary and Alice agree to find her. Shortly after, Luke shows Sophie and Ryan a press conference in progress by Marquis, in front of Arkham. He’s partnering with the city so people like Batwoman (who he claims is the insane one) will get the “help” they need. Ryan is at a loss until she remembers leverage Jada has that could help.

A Tense Mother-Daughter Chat

Ryan goes to talk with Jada, saying the videos of Marquis as a kid won’t stop him. One of Jada’s security guys comes to tell her she has a visitor, who shoots the security guy. It’s Victor Zsasz, whom Marquis released earlier. She relinquishes the video tape to Zsasz and offers to pay him more. But Zsasz doesn’t care and is there to kill Jada. Instead, he says he left a note for Batwoman and sets a timer giving her one hour to show up and save the day.

The deadline runs down, and Jada and Ryan talk about why Jada left. Jada reveals the money she paid was meant to go to Ryan and the family that wanted her, but the doctor stole it instead. Time runs out, and just as Zsasz prepares to shoot Jada, Ryan tells her to duck before throwing a letter opener at Zsasz. The two fight and Ryan knocks him out. Jada realizes that Ryan is Batwoman. When Zsasz is gone, Ryan voices her anger that Jada never checked on her as a kid. Jada says she thinks it was for the best given how Marquis turned out.

Buzzing With Joy

batwoman season 3 episode 11
Colin Bentley/The CW

Mary and Alice arrive at the halfway house. Before they leave the car, Mary asks about how Alice deals with the bad stuff she’s done, and Alice offers some unhelpful advice. They go ask about Kiki, and a woman tells them she doesn’t live there. However, Alice knows the woman is actually Kiki. Mary tells her they want to fix the joy buzzer. Kiki is reluctant but eventually agrees. So, they bring Kiki to her old workshop. She finishes the buzzer then begins maniacally laughing as Arkham inmates surround Mary and Alice.

Arkham on the Streets

batwoman season 3 episode 11
Dean Buscher/The CW

Luke prepares to break into Wayne to get the AI back with Sophie joining him. They get into Marquis’ office, where Luke tries learning more about Sophie and Ryan. She won’t give him much info and manages to change the subject when she finds the AI. Luke reattaches it to the Batwing helmet and is ready to go, but Sophie spots Marquis’ laptop and wants to check it. They find out Marquis released Arkham inmates, and Sophie calls Ryan (post Zsasz) to tell her. Luke adds that Marquis and Kiki were in contact. Then, they tell Batwoman where to find Mary and Alice. Marquis arrives with a few Arkham inmates as Kiki and co. bring Mary and Alice somewhere and Batwoman arrives. Marquis calls Kiki who puts him on speaker. Batwoman tries to rattle him, though it doesn’t work. As Marquis threatens Sophie and Luke’s safety, Sophie attacks and everyone fights their respective groups.

Wildmoore Dreams Are Made of This

Batwoman goes to tell Jada that Marquis has the buzzer (thanks to Kiki) and apologizes. Jada apologizes, too, admitting her pitfalls and explaining that she did love Ryan. Luke also talks with a parent as he fixes his AI. He shares his revelation about being Batwing with his dad, who’s proud of Luke. Meanwhile, Mary goes to see Alice and tells her she’s going to the wake for the man she killed; she needs to take responsibility. She also brought a bag meant for Alice, to help her leave Gotham. Alice doesn’t want to leave yet, though. She’s tired of being Alice and wants Mary’s help to get the joy buzzer.

Sophie meets with Ryan at The Hold Up, pre-annoyed at whatever Ryan might say. Instead, Ryan says she knows she’s been closed off. Now, she wants to be real with Sophie. Rather than tell her, Ryan kisses Sophie. Things ramp up and the two go upstairs, where they finally have sex (and it’s altogether steamy, a bit awkward, and incredibly tender).

Batwoman airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on The CW, available the next day on The CW app and cwtv.com. Find our previous recaps and the rest of our coverage here.

‘The Winchesters’: ‘Supernatural’ Prequel Ordered to Pilot

The CW has ordered a pilot for The Winchesters, a Supernatural prequel, per Entertainment Weekly. The prequel follows the origin story of John and Mary Winchester. The series will be executive produced by former Supernatural writer Robbie Thompson alongside Supernatural star Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel Ackles for their production company Chaos Machine.

There is no word yet on a premiere date or cast for the series, which will focus on much younger versions of Mary and John than what we saw in the main series. Are you excited for the latest extension of the Supernatural universe? Check out a few of the reasons we’re excited here!

‘Walker’ Prequel ‘Walker: Independence’ Pilot Ordered at The CW

The CW has ordered to pilot the Walker prequel, Walker: Independence, per Entertainment Weekly.

Jared Padalecki, executive producer, and star of Walker, is set to produce the series. Walker‘s showrunner, Anna Fricke, has written the teleplay alongside Walker‘s co-executive producer, Seamus Kevin Fahey.

TV Insider previously describes what the prequel would be like, stating, “Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems.”

The prequel is set in the late 1800s, so it will be interesting to see who they cast as Abby Walker, as well as Hoyt Rawlins (who we can assume is an ancestor of the Hoyt we already know).

Stay tuned for more news! We can’t wait to see casting announcements and more!

New Teaser Art for ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Revealed

0

Feast your eyes, fellow Trekkies: some gorgeous teaser art has dropped for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The upcoming series is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike was at the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Strange New Worlds will feature many of our favorite characters from season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The new show will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

Information about the new show is starting to trickle in, but we’ve only had one proper look at the cast so far ahead of the series’ May premiere. The first teaser this week featured most of the anticipated ensemble. The short clip — presumably from the first episode of the series — focused on Cadet Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), giving viewers a little more insight into her interesting, and previously mostly overlooked, backstory.

The series premiere of Strange New Worlds was written by Akiva Goldsman. The story is by Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers serve as co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the premiere episode. Goldsman, Kurtzman, and Lumet are executive producers in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Aaron Baiers.

Strange New Worlds is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, and will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Latin America, and Australia. The series will air on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and stream on Crave in Canada with additional international availability to be announced at a later date. The series is distributed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres Thursday, May 5, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. Following the premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays.

‘American McGee’s Alice’ Being Adapted for TV by ‘X-Men’ Writer David Hayter

0

Great news, creepy classics fans! Electronic Artist’s bestselling game American McGee’s Alice is being developed for television. Ted Field’s Radar Pictures has snatched up the rights to the cult favorite game that was released in 2000 (followed by Alice: Madness Returns in 2011).

The third-person action-adventure games are based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The games give a distinctively spooky twist to the usually zany feel of Wonderland, setting them apart from most other takes on Carroll’s tales. Legions of fans seized upon the unique feel and art style of the series and no doubt hopes will be high that Hayter can bring the same immersive creepiness to TV screens.

McGee’s version of the Alice in Wonderland story begins shortly after Alice returned from her miraculous trip through the looking-glass, with her family’s house burnt down and Alice as the only survivor of the terrible accident. It’s a horrific twist that only gets worse: Alice gets locked up inside a mental institution and slowly wastes away until the White Rabbit summons her back to Wonderland. But this time Wonderland is very different, the world turned gory and chilling. The only chance Alice has to restore her peace of mind and discover more about her parents’ death is to fight her way through Wonderland and free it from the evil powers that have overtaken it. Not a cheerful, colorful tale by any means, but it’s very clear that was never what McGee was going for!

The games have been commended for their respectful portrayal and representation of mental health issues given the time when they were made; Alice was one of the only games at the time that tackled such issues without portraying them negatively. Fans were also pleased to note that the young-adult Alice featured in the games was not sexualized in any way, in either the game or the marketing — a marked departure from the norm in 2000. Alice was seen as a turning point (or the beginning of one) in gaming representation by many.

While not much is known about the new TV adaptation yet, it already has a powerhouse showrunner attached: David Hayter. The writer and producer is well known for his work on X-Men and Watchmen, but many gamers will also recognize him as the original voice of Solid Snake in the English language version of Metal Gear Solid.

As development begins on the drama series, Hayter told The Hollywood Reporter, “[The] American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is a groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale. It takes you into the heart of a corrupted Wonderland and throws light into shadowy corners the world has never seen. I am beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience.”

With over 23 years of experience in the game industry, American James McGee (Yes, that’s his real name!) has over 30 titles to his name. He began in the early ’90s, developing Quake and DOOM for id Software, before moving on to Alice. He later founded Spicy Horse Games, where he developed Alice: Madness Returns as well as Grimm and Akaneiro: Demon Hunters. More recently, with his latest company Mysterious Inc., McGee is developing the highly anticipated sequel Alice: Asylum and Oz: Adventures, a narrative game based on the classic L. Frank Baum books.

On Hayter’s attachment to the Alice TV project, McGee had the following to say: “David Hayter brings imagination, experience, and stealth sneaking skills gained through successful missions in film, TV, and video games — a unique combination sure to make this adventure into Wonderland a successful one for the franchise and the fans. I am excited to be working with him and know the Alice fans will welcome him with mad affection.”

The show is a collaboration between Radar Pictures, Hayter, and Abandon Entertainment. Hayter will write and produce the series. Anthony Tringali, Maria Frisk, and Michael Napoliello will produce for Radar. Karen Lauder and Marcus Ticotin will produce for Abandon.

The series is executive produced by Radar’s Ted Field, who has racked up worldwide box office grosses topping $8 billion in his three decades in the industry. He has produced more than 60 movies, including the Jumanji franchise, the Riddick franchise, Amityville Horror (2005), The Last Samurai (2003), and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). He is an executive producer on The Wheel of Time, the Amazon Prime Video series based on Robert Jordan’s novels.

Speaking about the upcoming project, Field said, “David Hayter is a writer Radar has long admired who has a deep fanbase in the video game space. His take on American McGee’s Alice was so bold that we felt his vision is a series anyone would have to see.”

American McGee’s Alice was once said to be in development for the big screen, but the project never went anywhere. While the show does not yet have a broadcaster attached, with a name like Hayter involved it seems very reasonable for fans to get their hopes up.
