Photos: Louden Swain at the Troubadour

Louden Swain, comprised of Rob Benedict, Billy Moran, Michael Borja, and Stephen Norton, rocked the Troubadour in Los Angeles on June 27. It was a jam-packed show with three opening acts: The Uninvited, Zachariah & The Lobos Riders, and Nour Khodr.

The band hosted a VIP, which consisted of early entry to the venue, a pre-show meet & greet, and a photo with the band.

For the show, Louden Swain brought the house down (as usual), performing a diverse set list. Their set included some older songs, newer songs, fan-favorites, and even a brand new song called “Two Times”.

There were a few familiar faces in the crowd to support them, including Alex Calvert and Ruth Connell. All had their families in the audience as well, and it was a fun atmosphere to see everyone together to dance and sing along. It was a fantastic show, and they were on their A-game all night!

f you’re thinking of seeing a Louden Swain show for the first time or again, they’ll be in Chicago, September 4th at Beat Kitchen, right before the Creation Entertainment Road So Far Convention.

Later this month, the first volume of the highly anticipated English print edition of the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint novel will hit shelves. Ahead of its long-awaited release, Nerds & Beyond’s Otaku Stroll is here to share our thoughts after checking out an advanced reader copy, courtesy of Ize Press!

singNsong’s Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint originally began as a Korean web novel in 2018, and a webtoon adaptation then followed in 2020. Now, with anime and live-action adaptations on the way, English readers can finally dive into the source material that inspired one of the most popular webcomics of today!

Official summary:

“Kill each other within the time limit or die. It’s just another evening commute on the train, until the passengers are given an order they can’t disobey. Utter chaos ensues, but ordinary office worker Dokja Kim only feels an unsettling calm. He knows exactly how this will play out! The subway car, the passengers’ reactions, even the bizarre creature that suddenly appears to oversee this sadistic scenario … everything is straight out of his favorite story, an online novel so obscure he is its sole reader. And as the only one who knows where the plot is headed, Dokja must use his knowledge to survive the oncoming apocalypse!”

In our review, we take a look at the full press kit sent over to us by Ize Press, we discuss the series and if new readers should start with the manhwa or novel first, and we touch on a few things regarding translations for English audiences. Watch the video below.

Make sure to get your copy of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint when it releases on July 22! An audiobook counterpart will also be available as well.

Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming anime and live-action adaptations.

‘Project Hail Mary’: Your First Look at the Highly-Anticipated Movie Trailer

0

The highly-anticipated trailer for Project Hail Mary, the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s critically acclaimed 2021 novel, is finally here!

The film stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher turned astronaut who wakes up from a coma with amnesia and discovers he’s alone on a spaceship, and who then faces a desperate mission to save humanity.

The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind such films as The Lego Movie, the Spider-Verse franchise, and 21 & 22 Jump Street. While those films leaned into comedy, what they all have in common is heart, a quality that is also on full display in the Project Hail Mary teaser

The trailer opens with Ryland waking up disoriented on a spaceship, sporting a long, scraggly beard, and having no idea how he got there. It then intersperses flashbacks to his life as a teacher and his recruitment into the Project Hail Mary program, highlighting his journey from an ordinary guy to a reluctant hero. It also teases epic shots of space and even reveals Rocky, Ryland’s alien ally. And while the visuals are undeniably cool, what truly stands out is the trailer’s emphasis on character-driven moments – glimpses that suggest this adaptation will be something special. It hints at powerful themes like sacrifice, survival, and the surprising connections that can form in the unlikeliest of places.

Even just judging by the trailer alone, it’s clear Gosling makes a fantastic Ryland, bringing vulnerability, humor, resilience, and yes, grace, to the role.

The Project Hail Mary trailer doesn’t just promise a visually stunning sci-fi story; it strikes a perfect balance between science and deeply human stakes, which Weir is a master of.

Set for release on March 20, 2026, Project Hail Mary already looks like it could join the ranks of modern sci-fi classics, and we can’t wait to see more!

‘Date Everything!’ Review: So, About That Fuse Box …

0

Blink twice if you’ve ever had romantic thoughts about your refrigerator. I mean — what?

Your new favorite cozy couch game is here, bringing you the comfort of your own home … in your own home. Enter Date Everything!, a brand-new sandbox dating simulator. With over 100 dateable characters, this game turns the very idea of a dating simulator on its head with a concept so outrageous, it works: what would happen if every item in your home was actually a sentient, humanoid object? (Look, you’re just going to have to trust me here.)

Date Everything! is fairly easy to hop right into. Once you fire it up on your preferred platform, you’ll give the game a bit of information that will allow it to appropriately bring you into the story — name, pronouns, and whatever city you’d like to be living in (fictional or otherwise). Then you’ll soon be set free to run amok (within the house, that is) with a pair of magical glasses, aptly called Dateviators, which will forever change your perception of your vacuum cleaner and that box of decorations sitting in your closet.

From that point, it’s your love story to indulge in! Players can either follow in-game hints to discover new Dateables, or you can blaze your own path, jogging upstairs and downstairs each in-game day to woo the fuse box and the laundry basket, maybe visiting that odd, glitchy dresser in between … And hey, if you’re not feeling the love for certain characters, you also have the option to steer the dialogue options in a different direction to earn yourself a Friendship or Hate label instead.

One of this game’s biggest strengths is its script (which contains over 70,000 voice lines). Hats off to the brilliant minds that worked behind the scenes to not only create so many unique characters, but then also wrote punchy, entertaining dialogue for each and every one of them to boot. The witty quips and well-timed humor alone make this game worth playing. Because even if you stumble across a character that may not tickle your fancy, you’ll still want to keep on building out your relationship with them for the amusing conversations they offer. The character designs are also diverse, offering a little bit of something for everyone while finding creative ways to represent each object in the form of hair, clothing, and accessories.

What really brings these characters to life alongside their killer scripts is the incredibly talented roster of voice actors behind them — Matthew Mercer, Felicia Day, Troy Baker, Bryce Papenbrook, Aleks Le, Adam McArthur, Neil Newbon, Jonah Scott … the list goes on. And on. And on. The game itself comes from Sassy Chap Games, better known as Robbie Daymond, Ray Chase, and Max Mittelman (a triple threat of humor in and of itself who lend their voices as well).

Date Everything! has a smart way of keeping players engaged, too. You earn something called SPECS points each time that you earn a Love, Friendship, or Hate label with a Dateable. Those points then open up more dialogue options, as well as allowing players to meet the requirements for the individual endgame with each character. In short, this means that even if a player has already romanced all of their preferred Dateables, you’re still going to want to hustle around the house building relationships with everyone else, too.

Overall, Date Everything! is equal parts hilarious and endearing, offering audiences a fun break from complex and demanding gameplay with pure relaxing entertainment.

Review: ‘Countdown’ is Going to Be Your New Favorite Show This Summer

0

Prime Video’s newest series, Countdown, is set to premiere with three episodes on Wednesday, June 25. The series stars Jensen Ackles, who most fans know from the long-running series Supernatural as Dean Winchester. Over the last few years, he’s also had roles on Prime Video’s The Boys (where he reunited with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke), Big Sky, and Tracker.

In a world where first responder dramas are all the rage, Countdown fits right in but also manages to stand out on its own. The series itself feels massive, with some incredible cinematography and stunts that make you feel like you’re in a high-stakes action film throughout each episode. Being on Prime Video also gives them a bit more leeway than network television, so it’s fun to see them cursing in situations and reacting how we all would. Derek Haas, who also worked on the Chicago and FBI series, serves a masterclass with Countdown, smartly weaving together plot points and keeping the audience on the edge of their seats episode to episode.

This is Ackles’ first run after Supernatural leading his own show, and it’s clear that he’s perfect for this series. Mark Meachum is tailored perfectly to Ackles, and as the series progresses, Ackles really shows off his abilities here — not only as an incredible actor — but he solidifies himself as a leading man and action star who is going to gain a whole new, multi-generational audience. His wit and comedic timing are unmatched, and he has an innate ability to draw you in with every line delivery.

Prime Video

What I love about this series is that it gives way to stories with each character. Jessica Camacho’s Amber Oliveras goes toe-to-toe with Ackles’ Meachum, and they play off each other well. Eric Dane’s Nathan Blythe is smart and strong, and Dane always has a commanding presence on screen. Uli Latukefu as Luke Finau is so great, and I love his character development. Two of my favorite characters are Elliot Knight’s Keyonte Bell, who is so smart and fun to watch, and Violett Beane’s Evan Shepherd. As a self-proclaimed nerd (I mean, this is Nerds and Beyond), I loved seeing her character leading the tech side of things. The cast all really gel well together and are convincing as a team with some great moments.

One of my favorite things about this series is that it’s easy to see that it will span multiple generations. This is a show I could see my grandparents watching, my parents watching, my friends watching. It’s thrilling, exhilarating, and keeps you guessing – and trust me, this is going to be your new favorite show this summer.

Prime Video

Countdown premieres with three episodes on Wednesday, June 25, on Prime Video. Episodes will then be released weekly on Wednesdays until the season finale on Wednesday, September 3.
