0

Only a week after releasing her latest book, Shuri: The Vanished, Nic Stone has announced her next upcoming project! The new middle-grade book is titled Fast Pitch and is set to release on August 31, and you can pre-order your copy here.

Fast Pitch will follow Shenice Lockwood, who’s the captain of her softball team, the Fulton Firebirds. Shenice is hyper-focused and ready to clinch the U12 fast-pitch softball regional championships, but life has other plans for her.

“Strike one: As the sole team of all-brown faces on the field, Shenice and the Firebirds have to work twice as hard to prove that Black girls belong at bat.

Strike two: Shenice’s focus gets shaken when her great-uncle Jack reveals that a career-ending—and family-name-ruining—crime may have been a setup. . .

Strike three: Broken focus means mistakes on the field. And Shenice’s teammates are beginning to wonder if she’s captain-qualified.”

It’s a race against time as Shenice works to uncover her family’s history before she and the Firebirds lose the opportunity of a lifetime.

Stone also revealed the cover for the book, which prominently features Shenice in her softball gear. Stone shared via Instagram the personal significance the cover holds for her. Check out the cover below!

‘9-1-1’ Finally Revealed the Buckley Family Secret and Oliver Stark’s Performance Blew Us Away

0

Warning: Major spoilers for the ‘9-1-1’ episode “9-1-1, What’s Your Grievance?”

Early on, we knew that season 4 of FOX’s first responder drama 9-1-1 would be important for Oliver Stark’s Evan “Buck” Buckley (once it was confirmed that the long-awaited “Buck Begins” episode was finally happening). Yet little did we know what was coming …

Given that the worldwide pandemic we’re all living in also exists in the universe of the show, season 4 of 9-1-1 opened up with a cheeky tease about Buck having a secret “COVID crush.” However, by the second episode, we learned that the so-called girlfriend is actually a therapist. Buck had (thankfully) finally made the decision to take therapy seriously, and there was a lingering line between the two during one of their sessions — about how Buck hides his true feelings from others — which left fans speculating.

When Buck admitted to Maddie and Chimney that he’s seeing a therapist in the third episode, he explained that he’s in this for himself, not because of his job. This information seemed to affect Maddie deeply, sending her into a spiral. She ended up calling their mom, and we learned that apparently they’ve all been keeping a secret from Buck his entire life.

After a nail-biting episode full of angsty dinners with the Buckley parents and Chimney nearly spilling the beans ten times over, the secret was finally revealed in the final minutes of “9-1-1, What’s Your Grievance?”

As Buck began to inspect the contents of Maddie’s baby box that their parents gifted to her, he came across an image of a young boy that he assumed was him. However, he remarked that the background didn’t look like their childhood home and then became more confused when he flipped the photo over to see it was dated July 4th, 1988 — years before he was born.

In a heartbreaking moment, Maddie sadly informed Buck that the boy in the photo was Daniel … their brother who died.

This was an upsetting and painful episode for the entire Buckley family, but especially for Buck. Stark traded in his infectious smile and humorous attitude this time around for what was undoubtedly one of the best performances that he’s given on the show period. The pain in his voice and the deep hurt tearing through him was hauntingly palpable when he exclaimed at one point, “You wanna know why I’m really in therapy? It is because I have spent my entire life feeling like a constant disappointment. And you wanna talk about our jobs? You think my job is dangerous? I have walked through fire every single day of my life because of you. That is why I’m in therapy. Because nothing I ever did was good enough.”

We’ll see the continued implications of this startling revelation about the Buckley family next week in the highly anticipated episode “Buck Begins.” As per the episode summary, Buck will confront his childhood and answer why he is the daredevil he is today. You can see stills from the upcoming episode here.

“Buck Begins” will air on FOX on Monday, February 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. In the meantime, make sure to check out our interview with Oliver Stark!

In the meantime, the official synopsis for the sixth episode of the season, “Jinx,” has just been released. As per the title, it sounds like the 118 will be dealing with quite an exhausting stint of bad luck. The Whitly Family Drama Deepens in Three New Clips for ‘Prodigal Son’ Season 2, Episode 5 “Bad Manners”

FOX has released three intriguing new clips from tomorrow’s Prodigal Son episode, “Bad Manners,” that will have fans even more excited to see what happens after Jessica’s discovery last week!

Clip one shows Jessica confronting Martin following her discovery that Ainsley murdered Endicott and she already has a plan to “fix” her daughter. Will Jessica be able to help Ainsley or is Martin right about the nature of murder?

In clip two, Ainsley talks with Malcolm outside a crime scene about the ongoing investigation. When Malcolm caves and gives her a few details, Ainsley returns the favor and gives Malcolm his new lead: the victims are not brides but debutantes.

Clip three reveals Martin’s reaction to Jessica’s declaration in clip one, that he’ll never see Ainsley again. Of course, he calls Malcolm, who is certain Jessica won’t be able to whisk Ainsley away as long as there is a serial killer story for her to report.

Will Jessica be able to convince Ainsley to go on a vacation with a debutante serial killer on the loose? We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow night! “Bad Manners” airs Tuesday, February 9 on FOX at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.

Fan Artist Creates Diabolical Custom ‘The Boys’ 1/6 Scale Figures

HR is back at it again with another incredible project reveal, and this one is particularly diabolical.

Though he’s created fan art for a variety of fandoms, Handsome aka HR is best known for the very impressive collection of Supernatural figures that he’s produced over the years. HR’s careful attention to detail and passion for his craft shines through clearly in his creations, and fans of his work always wait with eager excitement when he teases an upcoming reveal.

Today, HR shared his latest epic creations — a collection of custom 1/6 scale figures for five characters from the hit Amazon Prime Video series The Boys. The figures, which include Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), M.M. (Laz Alonso), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone), all have hand-sculpted heads with an extraordinary likeness to the actors that portray the characters. Each of them also have customized clothing and accessories.

Check out these remarkable figures below.

When asked about his latest project, HR told Nerds and Beyond,

“I started watching ‘The Boys’ on Amazon when it released its first season and ever since I’ve been hooked. I couldn’t decide on which character I wanted to make because I love them all for different reasons. I decided to embark on my biggest project yet which is to do five figures in 4 months. ‘The Boys’ fandom is so creative and so much fun that I wanted to create something with my own signature. I’m delighted people like them!”

The Boys is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Created by Supernatural‘s Eric Kripke, this action-packed satirical superhero series is not for the faint of heart. The show is set in a universe where superheroes exist, reigning like celebrities to the public, but many are deviously corrupt behind closed doors. Arguably the worst of them all can be found amongst The Seven, a group of Supes working under the villainous corporation Vought International. Cue the Boys, a ragtag group of vigilantes risking their lives to bring down Vought and the Supes once and for all.

Season 3 of The Boys is set to begin filming soon in Toronto, Ontario. The premiere date is currently unknown. Fans of Supernatural can look forward to an appearance this upcoming season by Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, the original superhero.

Stream seasons 1 and 2 of The Boys now, only on Amazon Prime.

Additional Photos From ‘Superman & Lois’ Pilot Released

The CW has released 16 additional photos from the Superman & Lois premiere. The show follows the Kents as they return to Smallville from the big city with their two sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). The couple must balance their family values with saving the world.

The official episode description is as follows:

SERIES PREMIERE – In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and  Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.  Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”).

The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”).  Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice.  Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when both a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) and impassioned self-made mogul Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner, “Tyrant”) enter their lives. (#101).
