Larian Studios Is Bringing Mod Support to ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’

Larian Studios’ Director of Publishing Michael Douse has revealed that a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3 is being worked on by the developer, with a plan to release the program later this year.

“We have a system but it needs to be tested and still requires work,” he continued to write. “I understand that it suck’s when the game is updated and mods break. Our community teams will start talking with and looping in modding community. For now, work continues.”

The announcement from Douse comes days after the release of Hotfix #19 for Baldur’s Gate 3, which unfortunately broke an integral piece to many mods for the game, the Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender. Official mod support for the game would mean modders wouldn’t have to deal with updating their mod every time a new hotfix or patch is released for the game, and cross-platform capability would bring modding capabilities to consoles rather than being a strictly PC perk.

Larian’s Senior Community Strategist Alisha (@WombatMedic in the official Discord and X) shared additional statements in the community Discord, stating “We absolutely love that we have such an active modding community across our titles, and have enjoyed seeing that passion grow even stronger with Baldur’s Gate 3. We want to continue making sure you’re getting the best possible experience, which is why we frequently patch the game, although this does inevitably mean that each new patch or hotfix has the potential to become incompatible with your favourite mods.”

The statement continues to say that “Together with the platform holders, we are working on making this a reality, and are forming a team to support mod curation. We’re aiming to offer modding support for things like classes, UI, customisation, spells, and certain assets and game mechanics.”

Additionally, the statement says that the initial stages mod support will hopefully be included with the next big patch, which is still noted to be several months away.

To follow the progress of mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3, it is encouraged to join the Larian Studios Discord server and follow the modding channels.
