Roku Debuts First Look at ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ After Picking Up the Dropped Disney+ Series
Magic is real in Roku Channel’s new teaser trailer for The Spiderwick Chronicles, and not just for the characters. Roku rescued the series after Disney+ chose not to move forward with it last fall and will be releasing all eight episodes for streaming on April 19.
This new adaptation of the popular children’s book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black follows the adventures of the Grace family as they discover there is more to their new home than meets the eye. The official description for the show reads, “Helen and her children, 15-year-old fraternal twins Jared and Simon and their sister Mallory move to their ancestral home, Spiderwick. Jared discovers a boggart and realizes that magical creatures are real! The only one to believe him is his great-aunt Lucinda who implores Jared to find the pages of her father’s field guide to magical creatures and protect them from the murderous Ogre, Mulgarath.”
The cast for the show includes Joy Bryant as Helen Grace, Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace, Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace, Jack Dylan Grazer as the voice of Thimbletack, and Christian Slater as Mulgarath. The teaser offers a glimpse of each of these characters, but the true star of the clip is Slater’s Mulgarath who sets the tone for the whole thing.
With Aron Eli Coleite acting as showrunner and executive producer, Kat Coiro as director and executive producer, plus additional executive producers including Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Julie Kane-Ritsch, and Grace Gilroy, this Paramount and 20th Television series looks to be a highlight of Roku’s spring releases.
