‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Developer Larian Studios Confirms There Will Be Another ‘Divinity: Original Sin’ Game
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most highly anticipated games of the summer. Due to release on August 3 for PC players and September 6 for PlayStation players, the role-playing video game based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system has been in development for six years.
Larian Studios, the beloved developer entrusted with the premise, is an award-winning independent game dev based in Belgium. It is well known for epic, respected additions to the role-playing genre, most notably Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, Divinity: Original Sin 2. Larian Studio’s work on the Divinity series propelled them to critical acclaim and earned them a shot at Baldur’s Gate 3 — the prior games in the Baldur’s Gate franchise had both been developed by behemoth developer BioWare.
Now that Baldur’s Gate 3 is nearing release, fans have been wondering what will be next for Larian, the little studio that could. Many were hoping for a continuation of the beloved Divinity: Original Sin series.
Swen Vincke, the head of Larian Studios, confirmed in an interview with IGN that they will “definitely” make Divinity: Original Sin 3, but fans might have to wait a while.
Vincke said that while they will return to the world of Divinity: Original Sin and continue its story, the team will first take a break after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 next month. Vincke explained that the studio needs time to refresh its creativity after the immense effort put into Baldur’s Gate 3.
Given the dedicated and careful amount of time Larian Studios has put into their prior releases, fans probably shouldn’t expect to hear any announcements anytime soon.
In the meantime, role-playing game fans should make sure to check out Larian’s recent work in Baldur’s Gate 3, and keep an eye on Nerds & Beyond for more news on other projects as they develop!
