Universal Pictures is gearing up for the release of their new installment to The Exorcist franchise with The Exorcist: Believer by releasing the official trailer today, and the title and release date for the second installment — The Exorcist: Deceiver — has also been confirmed.

The franchise is being revived by Halloween rebooter David Gordon Green, with Believer serving as a sequel to the original 1973 The Exorcist. The script for this year’s installment, Believer, is penned by Gordon Green and Peter Sattler from a story by Green, Scott Teems, and Danny McBride. The first film in the planned trilogy is set to premiere October 13, 2023.

Producers for the new project are Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment, with McBride, Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer executive producing.

The cast for Believer features Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, newcomer Olivia Marcum, Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz. Returning to the franchise fifty years after the original’s release is Ellen Burstyn in her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan.

The Exorcist: Deceiver will premiere April 18, 2025. Stay tuned with Nerds & Beyond for updates.
