Willem Dafoe is the latest name to join the star-studded cast of Beetlejuice 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe will take on the role of a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.
The cast features returning stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, reprising their original roles of the titular character and Lydia Deetz, as well as fellow returnee Catherine O’Hara. Additional cast for the project includes Jenna Ortega as Lydia Deetz’s daughter, Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s bride, and Justin Theroux in an unnamed role.
From the sounds of it, it’s possible Dafoe’s character could be involved with the same agency that Adam and Barbara Maitland encountered in the original 1988 film, where characters like Sylvia Sidney’s Juno and Patrice Martinez’s Miss Argentina helped the dearly departed couple navigate the “Handbook for the Recently Deceased.”
Tim Burton is helming the sequel from Warner Bros. Pictures, which entered production this week.
The ghost with the most returns to theaters September 7, 2024.
