Fresh off Elvis, the Oscar-nominated actor Austin Butler is set to star in the adaption of Don Winslow’s crime novel City on Fire from Sony 3000.

According to Deadline who first broke the story, the hope is for the film to franchise much like the novels and have Butler return.

The first novel from HarperCollins/Marrow was published in April 2022 with the second, City of Dreams, set to release April 18.

The novels center around themes of loyalty, betrayal, and honor. Butler will play Danny Ryan, a man who, as rival crime families ignite a war, must become a leader, a ruthless strategist, and a master of the game to save his friends and family whom he has sworn to protect. From the gritty streets of Providence to the glittering screens of Hollywood to the golden casinos of Las Vegas, the war will leave only one standing and the winner will forge a dynasty.

Butler is also set to produce the project alongside David Heyman and Shane Salerno. This marks his first producing credit.
