The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed its nominees for the 2023 Oscars ahead of its 95th celebration, and amongst the award-worthy list of nominees is Top Gun: Maverick, earning a total of six nominations. Top Gun: Maverick has been recognized in the following categories:
- Best Picture
- Best Adapted Screenplay
- Best Film Editing
- Best Sound
- Best Visual Effects
- Best Original Song
Top Gun: Maverick continues to follow the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitch (Tom Cruise) 30 years after the events in the original film. After all his years of service, Maverick continues to push the envelope as a courageous test pilot while dodging an advancement in rank. Things change when he is assigned to train a detachment of graduates for a top-secret assignment. Maverick will face ghosts of his past and fears while culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Jim Cash, Jack Epps Jr, and Peter Craig, the film also stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jon Ham, and Val Kilmer.
