Earlier this month, reports of Lex Luthor finally making his way to Smallville in Superman & Lois made the rounds, and many wondered if Jon Cryer would be returning to the DC Universe. At the time, Cryer cited scheduling conflicts and a new character direction as reasons why he won’t be on Superman & Lois. Instead, Entertainment Weekly has exclusively confirmed that Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead) will play a new version of Lex.

According to the official description, after years away from the public eye Lex is re-emerging with a vengeance, correcting what he feels is a personal injustice by two people he feels wronged him, Superman and Lois.

Lex hasn’t been seen outside of the Arrowverse since Supergirl, facing off against Superman and Supergirl when he attempts to assassinate Lena, his half-sister. After “dying,” Lex returned for the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event where the world now depicts him as a good guy until he attempts to destroy the Fortress of Solitude with Lillian.

Season 3 of Superman & Lois picks up a week after the defeat of Ally Allston. Clark and Lois are working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small-town life. However, Lois’ work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever.

Meanwhile, the Kent boys get pulled in opposite directions as Jordan discovers what a superhero identity really means and Jonathan searches for a purpose beyond the football field. John Henry is haunted by his doppelgänger’s past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie. Lana and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores her and Jordan’s future now that she knows about his powers. General Lane has also reclaimed his post at the Department of Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.

Superman & Lois season 3 premieres Tuesday, March 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
