Today, the nominees for the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced, recognizing achievements across film and television as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Diego Luna, the star of Lucasfilm’s latest Star Wars series, Andor, has earned a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

This category pits Luna up against Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Adam Scott (Severance).

Andor sees the return of Luna as Cassian Andor, exploring a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy. The series focuses on Cassian’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

When audiences first met Luna’s character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian was already an established captain of the Rebel Alliance. Andor, meanwhile, required Luna to build Cassian from the ground up, as the series begins five years prior to the events of the film. The actor took this challenge in stride, offering up a deep-cutting, emotional, and unforgettable performance — so it comes as no surprise to see him on today’s list of nominees.

Season 1 of Andor is now streaming in full exclusively on Disney+. Catch up on all of our episodic recaps here.

Luna was also recently nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his performance in the series.

When he’s not fighting back and rebelling against the Empire, Luna is also known for other roles such as Narcos: Mexico, Y tu mamá también, and The Book of Life. In addition to returning for season 2 of Andor — production on which is currently underway — Luna is also set to star in the upcoming Hulu limited series La Máquina alongside longtime friend Gael García Bernal.

The Golden Globe Awards will air live from Beverly Hills, California on NBC and Peacock on January 10, 2023. Check out all of this year’s nominees here.
