Complete List of the First Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Award Winners

Share:

For the first time since 1979 when the Sports Emmy Awards and the News & Documentary Emmy Awards were introduced, the Emmy Awards have expanded. 2022 marks the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, offering a dedicated ceremony separate from the Daytime Emmy Awards for what has become largest single genre recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

This year, more than 50 awards were given out across two ceremonies held between December 10-11. Saturday saw the announcement of the Creative Arts Awards, with awards going out for achievements in writing, directing, voice direction, cinematography, editing and more. Sunday saw awards in performance categories as well as to series awards for Children’s or Family Viewing Series, Young Teen Series, Preschool Series and Animated Series.

LeVar Burton was also honored at this inaugural awards ceremony with a lifetime achievement award. Burton was selected to receive this award for his seminal work in children’s television on Reading Rainbow, along with his notable contributions to promoting children’s literacy and creating space on television for everyone. He has long been known to use his platform to help educate, inspire and create/move culture.

The Children’s & Family Emmy Awards will continue to be presented annually, and you can check out the full list of inaugural winners below.

LeeAnn
LeeAnn
LeeAnn is children's librarian who joined Nerds and Beyond in 2020 as a way to stretch her writing skills and connect with others who have the same pop culture passions as she does. She loves music, reading (obviously), and any TV show that can grab and hold her attention. Currently some of her favorite things to nerd out over include Supernatural, Prodigal Son, Louden Swain and Percy Jackson (books, theater, or upcoming show - lets leave the movies out of it).
