Lucía Méndez and Jorge Perugorría have been added as series regulars for Hulu’s upcoming series La Máquina, which follows an aging boxer whose manager secures him one last shot at winning a title. Karina Gidi, Raul Briones, and Luis Gnecco also join the cast in recurring roles.

Marco Ramirez (Daredevil) serves as executive producer and showrunner. The series is produced by Searchlight Television, 20th Television, and La Corriente del Golfo. Executive producers for the series are Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna under their production company La Corriente del Golfo; Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperín, Adam Fishbach, and Kyzza Terrazas. Gabriel Ripstein (An Unknown Enemy) will direct.

Bernal and Luna will also co-star in the series as the aforementioned aging boxer and his crafty manager.

Méndez will play Josefina, a woman from humble means that has pushed her way into upper society, and frequently smothers her son, Andy (Luna), with constant remarks about his appearance to his business decisions. Perugorría will play Sixto, an old school figure from the world of Cuban boxing who is Esteban’s (Bernal) long-time trainer and father figure/mentor to both Andy and Esteban.

Gidi will recur as Carlota, a woman from a wealthy Mexican family and the wife of Andy; Briones will recur as grizzled and corrupt police officer Juan Carlos; and Gnecco will recur as Facundo, an old-school journalist navigating the new-school world.

Eiza González is also a previously confirmed member of the cast, portraying Irasema — an aspiring sports journalist who is also Esteban’s ex-wife and the mother of their two children.

The series has yet to receive a release date for the streaming platform. Stay tuned with Nerds & Beyond for more updates.
