The final episode of the six-part limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi has arrived, in which Darth Vader is still in pursuit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Reva has decided to make use of her new knowledge of the boy safely tucked away on Tatooine.

Obi-Wan’s choice

Darth Vader’s forces are in pursuit of the ship that Obi-Wan, Leia, and the others escaped on. Realizing that something is wrong, Obi-Wan approaches Roken and learns that the ship is compromised. They’re not going to escape at this rate. Seeing how terrified everyone on the ship is, Obi-Wan decides that he needs to leave on a dropship, because he knows Vader will follow him. Leia is furious. Obi-Wan gives her Tala’s holster, which Roken found while they were evacuating.

“I have to face him, Master. Whether he dies, or I do, this ends today.”

– Obi-Wan speaks out to Qui-Gon Jinn

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader meet again

The Grand Inquisitor implores Vader to continue their pursuit of the main ship so they can extinguish the network of insurgents rather than pursue one lone Jedi. But Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t just any Jedi. Obi-Wan lands on a planet, and Vader follows after him alone. After he disembarks, a lightsaber battle ensues, this one far more intense than their meeting on Mapuzo. Vader buries Obi-Wan under a mountain of stones.

“Did you truly think that you could defeat me? You have failed, Master.”

– Darth Vader

Vader turns to leave, and with memories of Anakin’s words and the thought of fighting for Luke and Leia in his head, Obi-Wan uses the Force to free himself. They battle once more, but this time, Obi-Wan’s full strength has truly returned. He pummels Vader with a barrage of boulders. Vader falls to the ground and struggles to breathe after all of the damage Obi-Wan has dealt to his suit.

With half of his face revealed through his broken helmet, he looks up at Obi-Wan, who utters his true name, “Anakin.” Voice modulator also damaged, Anakin’s true voice can he heard as he says, “Anakin is gone. I am what remains.” Obi-Wan tells Anakin that he’s sorry … for all of it. Anakin replies, “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.” The calm between them ends as Anakin tells him that he will destroy him, and Obi-Wan accepts that his friend is truly dead. Wheezing, Vader walks toward him, lightsaber in hand. Obi-Wan leaves as Darth Vader screams his name.

Reva hunts Luke Skywalker

Armed with the knowledge of her latest discovery, Reva has returned to Tatooine in search of Luke Skywalker. Owen and Luke go into town to get a new belt for their speeder, and a man warns them that someone is looking for the boy. They return home, and while Owen wants to run, Beru refuses to leave their home behind.

After the sun sets, Reva arrives, lightsaber in hand — though she’s weakened by her journey through the desert. Owen and Beru are prepared, raining down blaster fire on her. As they fight, Reva dryly remarks how much Owen cares for Luke. Realizing that the boy has run off, Reva chases after Luke through the desert. At one point during their pursuit, Luke falls and is knocked out. Reva approaches him to attack, but she struggles, because she’s haunted by memories of her past.

Obi-Wan returns to Tatooine

After returning to his ship, Obi-Wan senses that Luke is in trouble, and he makes his way back to Tatooine. Obi-Wan finds Owen and Beru calling out for the boy, and then they all turn and see Reva carrying Luke’s body. Still alive, Luke begins to wake up, and Owen and Beru take him away. Reva tells Obi-Wan that she failed her fellow younglings, because she couldn’t kill Vader. Obi-Wan assures her that she hasn’t become him, because she has chosen not to. He tells her that she’s free … they both are.

Darth Sidious

Vader speaks to Darth Sidious over a holoprojector, assuring him that they’re pursuing Obi-Wan. He will not evade him again. Sidious calmly tells Vader that he wonders if his thoughts on this matter are clear, because perhaps his feelings for his old master have left him weakened.

Leia returns home

Lucasfilm

Leia is safely returned to Alderaan. As she gets dressed for the day, Breha walks in, and she’s surprised — but not displeased — to see her daughter wearing a holster. They meet Bail outside, ready to greet another arrival for the day. But instead of more cousins, this time the visitor is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi (and Lola). Obi-Wan tells Bail that if he ever needs his help again, he knows where to find him.

Before he leaves, Obi-Wan kneels down in front of Leia, and he tells her that she is wise, discerning, and kindhearted. Those are all qualities that came from her mother. And her passion, her fearlessness, the way that she is so forthright … those are gifts from her father.

“Hello there”

Back on Tatooine, Obi-Wan packs up his cave and returns to Owen and Beru’s. He agrees with Owen that Luke just needs to be a boy for now — the future will take care of itself. As Obi-Wan goes to leave, Owen asks him if he wants to meet Luke.

After Obi-Wan takes his leave on his eopie and begins to make his way across the deserts of Tatooine, he finally sees Qui-Gon’s Force ghost. Qui-Gon assures him that he was always there, Obi-Wan just wasn’t ready to see.
