Production is officially underway for Disney Plus’ new series based on Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black’s Spiderwick Chronicles books.

Originally announced back in November on Disney+ Day, there is little information available about the series yet, although Aron Eli Coleite has been announced as writer and showrunner. With production now underway we can expect more details, including cast announcements for the main characters — twin brothers Simon and Jared, and their older sister Mallory — to be forthcoming.

Much in the same vein as The Chronicles of Narnia or Locke and Key, The Spiderwick Chronicles follow the Grace children as they discover a realm of faeries that exists parallel to their own. Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You, a hand-written book by their great-great uncle, aides the children in their discovery, but it may prove to be more dangerous than they assumed at first glance.

The Spiderwick Chronicles book series consists of five children’s chapter books, each running just over 100 pages. So if you’re looking to read the books before the series comes out, you have plenty of time.
