Variety is exclusively reporting that Misha Collins, Hilary Swank, Trish Hofmann, Victoria Vantoch, Philip Schneider, and Hidden Empire Film Group will produce The Daryl Davis Project. The film will be based on the book Klan-destine Relationships: A Black Man’s Odyssey in the Ku Klux Klan, Daryl Davis’ autobiography. Hofmann and Collins first optioned the rights to Davis’ story and are seeking a writer for the script. According to the synopsis for the book, the film will follow Davis’ efforts to combat bigotry.
“A professional musician recounts his courageous, lifelong confrontations and conversations with members of the Ku Klux Klan in an attempt to unearth the roots of bigotry and foster harmony between black and white, often using music to bridge the divide.”
In a statement to Variety, Collins and Hofmann stated that, “What we love about the story, is that it’s about a man who combats racism head on by going directly to its most overt perpetuators, and treats them like humans — thereby forcing them to discover that hatred is impossible when there is connection.”
There is no word yet on when the project will be released.
