Interview: Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid Talk About ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Season 2 [EXCLUSIVE]

TELEVISIONCBSInterview: Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid Talk About 'Star Trek: Lower Decks'...

The animated underdogs of Starfleet are back! Season two of Star Trek: Lower Decks premieres next week on August 12th, so we logged onto Zoom to chat with Tawny Newsome (Ensign Beckett Mariner) and Jack Quaid (Ensign Brad Boimler) about what we can expect for the Lower Decks crew this season.

And while things like Beckett’s rocky relationship with her mother (Captain Freeman), whether or not Boimler regrets his transfer to the Titan, and the growth of the characters and overall confidence of the show itself was discussed, we had to ask possibly the most important Star Trek question of our time.

Nerds and Beyond: Ok, this is extremely important. Boimler has his collector’s plate of Tom Paris, but if you could have a collector’s plate of anyone in the Star Trek Universe who would it be and why?

Jack Quaid: Oh that’s a great question.

Tawny Newsome: Now can it talk? I need to know if it can talk to you?

Jack Quaid: Yeah I need to know if it can talk.

Nerds and Beyond: Yes.

Jack Quaid: God, such a good question. Tawny, you got one?

Tawny Newsome: Okay, I’ll go. I think I want one of Kira Nerys. Deep Space Nine is my Trek. If I wasn’t in Lower Decks, Deep Space Nine would forever be my favorite. And Kira is such a hardcore badass. Kira is basically ANTIFA and we love her. Kira is incredible. And I feel like anytime I was like, doubting myself, or confused or whatever, she’d be like “you know who you are!” Like she would give me the most stern, incredible pep talk. That’s what I would need in my life.

Jack Quaid: Yeah. Mine would be Simon Pegg’s Scotty just so I could hang out with him.

Tawny Newsome: Oh nice, you just want to hang out with Simon.

Jack Quaid: Oh yeah.

Interview has been condensed and edited for clarity. Star Trek: Lower Decks returns August 12th on Paramount+.
