The BBC announced today that Doctor Who‘s lead Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall will both exit the show next year after three special episodes.

Chibnall started his work on the sci-fi series in 2017 and cast Whittaker as the first female Doctor after working previously with the actress on Broadchurch.

Season 13 of Doctor Who is set to air later this year with a six-part serial. Jodie Whittaker will be joined by Mandip Gill and John Bishop playing her companions Yaz and Dan Lewis. They will be joined by Jacob Anderson as Vinder. The trailer for season 13 is available to watch here.

Three special episodes will air in 2022 to close Whittaker’s tenure on the show as our favorite Time Lord.
