‘The Card Counter’ Starring Oscar Isaac World Premiere Set for Venice Film Festival

The lineup for the 78th Venice International Film Festival has officially been announced, and it includes the world premiere of Paul Schrader’s (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) upcoming crime drama The Card Counter in the Competition category.

The Card Counter stars Oscar Isaac as Tell, a man that just wants to play cards. Tell’s spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk (Tye Sheridan), a vulnerable and angry young man seeking help to execute his plan for revenge on a military colonel (Willem Dafoe). Tell sees a chance at redemption through his relationship with Cirk. But keeping Cirk on the straight-and-narrow proves impossible, dragging Tell back into the darkness of his past. The film also stars Tiffany Haddish.

A new still from the film, featuring Isaac, was revealed alongside today’s announcement.

Written and directed by Schrader, the film is produced by Braxton Pope, Lauren Mann, and David Wulf, and executive produced by Martin Scorsese.

The Card Counter will land in theaters on September 10.
