The Electrical Life of Louis Wain starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy is getting its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Directed by Will Sharpe, the biopic follows artist Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch) as he introduces Victorian London to the delightful world of cats.

Louis Wain is an artist best known for his artworks featuring anthropomorphized large-eyed cats and kittens. In his later years, Wain suffered from schizophrenia. His wife Emily (Claire Foy), the love of his life, was one of his inspirations, as well as his love for the world.

The cast also features Andrea Riseborough, Toby Jones, Adeel Akhtar, Julian Barratt, Asim Chaudhry, and Sophia Di Martino (recently attaining Loki fame).

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is a Gala Presentation at TIFF 2021. The full schedule for the films playing at this year’s festival will release on Tuesday, August 24. Tickets and packages are currently available for purchase.

No public release date has been scheduled.
