Ahead of the release of Quentin Tarantino’s novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood next week, a trailer has been released that features never-before-seen footage from the film!
The novel, published by Harper Perennial, will act as a retelling of the story. In an interview with Pure Cinema Podcast, Tarantino further explained what the novel entails.
“It’s not just me taking the screenplay and then breaking it down in a novelistic form. I retold the story as a novel. So it’s not like ‘Oh, okay, well he obviously had a few scenes left over, so he just took the screenplay and novelized it and threw in a few extra scenes.’ It was a complete rethinking as far as throwing some scenes that were left out of the editing room. But I did so much research.”

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was Tarantino’s ninth feature film that made waves in the awards circuit. Snagging 10 Oscar nominations, it won Best Production Design and Best Supporting Actor, awarded to Brad Pitt for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth.
The film follows Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) who has ridden out the wave of fame starring in 1950s Western. Now he struggles to find any meaningful piece of work, so he spends most of his time riding around with Cliff, who lives next door to Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and Roman Polanski (Rafal Zawierucha). Dalton dreams of befriending them to help his career along. All of this leads the group to the fateful night of August 8, 1969, when the Manson family pays a visit that involves a confrontation with Rick and Cliff.
