On the fourth day of Geeked Week, Netflix gave to me: a 12-member cast list for the upcoming animated series Twilight of the Gods, directed by Army of the Dead director and producer Zack Snyder. The series was first announced in 2019 and will take place in the world of Norse mythology, which has received an uptick of interest in the media in recent years. During the virtual Geeked event, Snyder says this series will be his take on Norse mythology and will be unlike anything audiences have ever seen. Unfortunately, the name, general theme and voice-cast are the only details we know about the series.

John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix, has been enthusiastic about the series since it’s announcement, having the following to say:

“We are beyond excited to partner with him (…) to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life.”

Audiences will recognize some character names such as Thor, Loki, and Odin, although if you’ve never studied Norse mythology the list is probably raising some questions. The massive and impressive cast list is as follows: Sylvia Hoeks as SIGRID, Stuart Martin as LEIF, Pilou Asbæk as THOR, John Noble as ODIN, Paterson Joseph as LOKI, Rahul Kohl as EGILL, Jamie Clayton as THE SEID-KONA, Kristopher Hivju as ANDVARI, Peter Stormare as ULFR, Jamie Chung as HEL, Lauren Cohen as INGE, and Corey Still as HRAFNKEL.

The series is being produced through Stone Quarry Animation, which is Snyder’s production company’s newest venture alongside storyboard artist veteran Jay Oliva, Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller. Oliva is creating the series alongside Snyder and will take on the role of show runner, director and executive producer. Snyder and Oliva are not new to working alongside each other and in fact have worked together on over a dozen projects.

The official announcement from Netflix Geeked can be found here, and while we wait for a first look at the series don’t be afraid to brush up on your Norse mythology!
