Hulu Announces ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Sequel ‘How I Met Your Father’ Starring Hilary Duff

It’s finally time to get the other side of the story. On Wednesday, Hulu announced a 10-episode series order has been issued for a How I Met Your Mother sequel How I Met Your Father with Hilary Duff set to fill the lead role.

In a familiar concept, the show will follow Sophie (Duff) as she tells her son the story of how she met his father way back in 2021. Set in the future, the story will play out similarly to the original as Sophie and her close-knit group of friends work to discover who they are and what they want out of life, all while navigating the treacherous waters that are finding love in the modern age of dating apps.

Created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us), How I Met Your Father will see How I Met Your Mother creators acting as co-executive producers as well. The series will be coming from the same production studio. Given the unfortunate demise of Duff’s Lizzie McGuire reboot this promises to be a great new avenue for the star, who will also be acting as a producer.

Fans of the original show have been looking forward to the possibility of a sequel or spin-off since it ended back in 2014, but until now the idea was never able to get its legs under it. For now details are pretty much limited to what’s above, but keep an eye out here for updates as they become available.
