The premiere of the epic action film SAS: Red Notice is just around the corner, and Nerds and Beyond had a chance to catch up with one of the film’s stars ahead of its release — Ruby Rose!

SAS: Red Notice, which is based on the novel by former SAS operator Andy McNab, follows a special forces operator named Tom Buckingham (portrayed by Sam Heughan) as he takes his girlfriend Dr. Sophie Hart (Hannah John-Kamen) from London to Paris to propose. However, those plans are dangerously derailed when their train is seized by Grace Lewis (Ruby Rose) and her team of heavily-armed war criminals. Hundreds of passengers are held hostage while the train sits deep inside the Channel Tunnel, as Grace threatens to expose the British government’s darkest secrets and blow up the tunnel if her ransom demands aren’t met. Unarmed and cut off from his counter terror team, Tom is the only hope that the passengers have to make it out alive. SAS: Red Notice also stars Andy Serkis, Tom Hopper, and Tom Wilkinson.

Grace Lewis is an unshakeable and charismatic villain in this story, providing an excellent balance to Heughan’s heroic lead Tom Buckingham. When asked what drew her to this role, Rose stated that she wanted to make sure there was something different about SAS: Red Notice, as she worries people may get “Ruby Rose action film fatigue.”

She told us that she was given a copy of McNab and Kevin Dutton’s book The Good Psychopath’s Guide to Success along with the script, and explained how much more interesting the film became when considering the psychological aspects of it. Rose went on to discuss how there are different levels on the psychopathy spectrum, and the importance of undoing the idea that the word psychopath means just one thing.

Rose’s character Grace has a big showdown with Heughan’s Tom later in the film, and she said that it encompassed a couple days worth of shooting (and the choreography was intense!) She laughed as she recalled Heughan’s decision for his character to end up in a t-shirt at that point in the film, which was made well before he was aware that it would be freezing and snowing by the time they were actually filming those scenes.

When asked about her favorite scene partner in the film outside of Heughan, Rose cited that she had great experiences with many of her co-stars, including Tom Wilkinson, Hannah John-Kamen, and Jing Lusi. She also noted that she’s been a fan of Andy Serkis forever, and felt that the two had amazing on-set chemistry that she’ll always remember.

SAS: Red Notice will be available in the UK via Sky Cinema on March 12, and it will launch On Demand in North America on March 16. Make sure to check out our SAS: Red Notice interview with Tom Hopper as well!
