‘WandaVision’ – Where Are Tommy & Billy? How the Twins’ Fate Is Still Wrapped to Mephisto

Share:

At the end of WandaVision episode 7, it was revealed that Agnes has been the Marvel witch Agatha Harkness all along, but one thing that was oddly missing were the twins, who had last been in Agnes’ care. Agnes uses the boys to bait Wanda into the basement, but when she arrives down in the doom and gloom that is Agatha’s lair, Tommy and Billy are no where to be seen.

WandaVision has already changed Tommy and Billy’s story by letting them grow out of infancy and their powers manifesting under the care of Scarlet Witch, but we may be seeing a little flip back to comic canon here with the reveal of Agatha, just much more sinister.

The large heel turn of Agatha is also a bit of a surprise, as Agatha has always been more friend than foe to Scarlet Witch in the pages of the comics. However, the change to Tommy and Billy’s storyline may have caused a need for Agatha to be a bit more evil, and likely less prominent to Wanda as a whole.

Tommy and Billy are born from Wanda’s powers and two shards of soul from the devil of the Marvel world, Mephisto. Wanda unknowingly snatched these pieces of soul in a battle with Salem’s Seven at New Salem when she went searching for Agatha and found her dead. Later, the twins as infants are reabsorbed by Mephisto and Agatha, avoiding a fight with Mephisto, wipes the memories of Billy and Tommy from Wanda’s memory. Of course, the two are later reincarnated as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd, Wiccan and Speed, who do eventually become Young Avengers and learn the truth about their lineage.

As for Agatha and Scarlet Witch, Wanda does eventually find out the truth about what Agatha did to her memory and kills Agatha and forms alternate realities … much like the one we’re seeing in WandaVision, except it covers the entire world. (Read Avengers Disassembled and House of M for more details on these events!)

Why Agatha is here and who she may be serving are still a mystery, but don’t count on Agatha being the only baddie we see in WandaVision. Mephisto may still be lurking, especially with all the foreshadowing to him being involved in episode 6.

So where are Tommy and Billy now? Well, Agatha could very well be holding them hostage to return those two shards of soul Wanda stole back to her “master,” Mephisto. Billy, while he is very powerful as Wiccan, still has no idea how to use his powers, and as fast as Tommy is, Agatha is an extremely powerful witch with thousands of years under her belt. She can handle two 10-year-olds.

So, will Tommy and Billy shoot up one more time to be the teenagers we see in Young Avengers (and match the rest of the team Marvel has been building)? Or will Mephisto take back his soul only for Billy and Tommy to reincarnate later after Agatha wipes them from Wanda’s memory?

As bad as she is, we’d love to see Kathryn Hahn live past the final episodes of WandaVision and cause a little mayhem throughout Phase 5 for Doctor Strange and Wanda, but whatever Marvel has in store of Agatha, I’m sure it won’t end well with the Scarlet Witch as her enemy.

The first seven episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+.
