‘The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem’ #3 by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon Now Available!

The third issue of the six-part comic miniseries The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem from Dark Horse Comics is now available!

Written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon, with art by Leonardo Romero, lettering by Nate Piekos, and colored by Jordie Bellaire, National Anthem follows the story of the original Killjoy, Mike Milligram. Before the days of My Chemical Romance’s 2010 album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and the 2013 comic series that followed, Way and Simon crafted a slightly different world of danger with another story born years earlier. National Anthem is about what was once a group of teenage exterminators that were determined to save reality. After temporarily losing their memories, the gang gets back together years later in a final showdown against an evil pharmaceutical corporation, their monstrous hitman, and savage gang rivals.

In issue #2, Mike Milligram managed to track down both Red (now Sofia) and Animax (Maxwell). Sofia also brought a young boy named Jaime, who is supposedly her cousin’s son, along with her as the Killjoys made a hasty escape from the school.

The summary for issue #3 is as follows:

After finding their final missing member, the reassembled Killjoys exterminating team have a shootout with an enemy gang and discover a bizarre authoritarian scheme from their corporate adversaries.

In addition to Romero’s cover, there are also two variant covers available for issue #3. The covers, pictured below, feature artwork by Becky Cloonan (the artist for the 2013 version of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys) and Andrew MacLean.
