The season 5 premiere of Riverdale is just weeks away and the first trailer has finally been released! It’s nothing short of mysteries, murder, secrets, and videotapes.

The videotapes have returned as well as those creepy masks, making it easy to assume there will be more haunting recreations of the gang doing violent and disturbing things in the future. It also wouldn’t be Riverdale without a little murder, as there is someone who was hanged and Betty is walking around her house with a gun. Betty and Jughead continue their investigations, leading them to visit old pal Bret in prison. “Something’s coming, and it’s gonna hit you like a mack truck.”

The first few episodes of season 5 will feature the gang going to prom and graduating from Riverdale High, in what was supposed to be the final episodes of season 4. However, the episodes were pushed due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown earlier this year. The new trailer only shows the gang’s final days at Riverdale High so there is still a lot more in store. Glee and Insatiable alum Erinn Westbrook is joining Riverdale in the upcoming season as Tabitha Tate, Pop Tate’s granddaughter who is aiming to take over Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe. Meanwhile, Skeet Ulrich’s final episodes as FP Jones will be at the beginning of the season.

Recently, TVLine released exclusive photos of Riverdale High’s prom and it seems like it’s going to be a memorable one, for numerous reasons. In the trailer, Archie points out that it will be their last dance with their friends, they can’t miss it. With it being Riverdale, the night can’t end well. Archie and Betty’s affair finally finds its way to Veronica, as she is crying and realizing something happened between her boyfriend and best friend.

Season 5 of Riverdale premieres on Wednesday, January 20 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on The CW, followed by the season 2 premiere of Nancy Drew. Stream the first four seasons now on Netflix.
