‘The Three-Body Problem’ Adaption From ‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners Coming to Netflix

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have announced their next project.  Saying goodbye to the fire breathing fantasy genre and taking a step into sci-fi genre, Benioff and Weiss are set to adapt another book series, The Three-Body Problem, into a Netflix television show.

The book series is comprised of three books – The Three Body Problem, The Dark Forest, and Death’s End – and depicts an alternate history of Earth, telling the story of humanity’s first contact with alien life in the 1960s and onward. While the novels were originally written and published in Chinese, it has been confirmed that the Netflix adaptation will be in English. Liu Cixin, author of the trilogy, and Ken Liu, the man responsible for translating two of the books into English, have both agreed to be consulting producers on the project.

The release date, number of episodes for the first season, or cast have not yet been announced. Executive producers of the upcoming series include another Game of Thrones alum, Bernadette Caulfield, and Star Wars: the Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson. This is the first major project announced by Benioff and Weiss since they signed onto a multi-year deal with Netflix in 2019.
