With Jared Leto, there is yet another actor crossing DC and Marvel lines by taking on the role of Doctor Michael Morbius, an antagonistic character who first appeared in the Spider-Man comics in the 1970s. Today, Sony Pictures dropped the first trailer of the next installment of movies set in the Spider-Man universe after the success of Venom starring Tom Hardy in 2018.

The trailer of Morbius shows the origin story of the villain, who in the comics later turned out to be his own form of a hero and gets a small redemption arc. This teaser, however, reads a lot like a villain story, showing the struggle of an unknown illness and a transformation into a person with certain powers similar to that of a vampire. And indeed, these are the type of powers Morbius has. Jared Leto is seen as a sickly, thin man and then transformed into a healthy, but wall-crawling, super-powerful being.

Set to be released in summer 2020, the movie also stars Jared Harris, Matt Smith (The Crown, Doctor Who) and will apparently feature a cameo by J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, who already appeared in the latest Spider-Man adventure, Far From Home. There are some references to MCU Spider-Man in the teaser, for example, a poster of Spider-Man with the words “murderer”, referencing the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home and Mysterio’s final blow. The movie will reportedly be tied into the narrative of the MCU without being an announced part of it.

Her current love is everything Marvel, especially two characters who tend to be frozen at one point or the other. From Drag Race to Harry Potter or musical theatre, as long as it makes her smile (or cry), it’s probably her thing.
