When I heard there was going to be a movie about The Banana Splits, I was beyond excited. I grew up watching reruns of the Hanna-Barbera late 60’s classic with my father. The childrens show followed 4 eccentric consumed characters, Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky, on quirky adventures in and around their clubhouse where they sometimes strapped on instruments to perform a psychedelic tune or two.

Imagine my surprise when I see a post about a The Banana Splits movie! I couldn’t wait to tell my dad. Then I realized, it was posted by horror pages that I follow. I thought it had to be a mistake. Nope.

It’s true, friends. The film, written by Jed Elinof (R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated) and Scott Thomas (Celebrity Deathmatch, Malibu Resue), is a horror movie. The trailer gives off a very ‘5 Nights At Freddie’s’ vibe and twists the joyous and upbeat theme song into something menacing and dark.

The film follows young Harley (Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) who goes to a taping of The Banana Splits for his birthday. Soon, he and the shows producer Rebecca (Sara Canning) realize something isn’t right. And the body count starts rising.

Needless to say I AM READY FOR IT.
