Big news for fans who have been itching to watch Heels — Starz has announced that starting tonight at 12:01 a.m. ET, the first three episodes of the show will be available for free in the US on YouTube, Facebook, the STARZ app, and more.
The show, which stars Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, premiered on Starz on August 15. The show was written and created by Michael Waldron (Loki), and Mike O’Malley is leading as the showrunner.
Heels also stars Alison Luff, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, James Harrison, Allen Maldonado, and Chris Bauer.
Pedro Pascal captivated audiences when he arrived on screen in late 2019 as the mysterious and intriguing masked bounty hunter named Din Djarin in the inaugural live-actionStar Warsseries The Mandalorian.
Prior to that, he had made a name for himself in other series, from diving into the gritty life of Javier Peña in the crime drama Narcos to the more sensual, cunning Oberyn Martell in the fantasy world of Game of Thrones. More recently, he portrayed the fascinatingly eccentric, villainous Maxwell Lord in DC’s sequel film Wonder Woman 1984, followed by superhero Marcus Moreno inWe Can Be Heroes.
So what’s next on the slate in Pascal’s growing filmography? Let’s take a look.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Things are about to get very meta in Tom Gormican’s upcoming Nicolas Cage flick, which comes from a screenplay co-written with Kevin Etten. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sees Cage in the leading role of … well … himself. Pascal, meanwhile, will portray an eccentric superfan of Cage. After receiving a million-dollar offer to attend the aforementioned fan’s birthday party, Cage later finds himself recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and will have to channel his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters to ensure the safety of his loved ones.
The film also stars Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi, Lily Sheen, Jacob Scipio, Neil Patrick Harris, and Paco León.
Pascal will be making waves across another popular franchise soon enough; he will soon be gracing our television screens as a lead character in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of The Last of Us. The show is written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (video game director and co-president of Naughty Dog) and is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.
Based on Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed action-adventure survival video game for PlayStation, The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Pascal will portray Joel, a hardened survivor hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. This small job eventually unravels into a brutal, heartbreaking journey as the pair traverses across the U.S., depending on one another for survival.
The series also stars Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter, and Jeffrey Pierce as a rebel in a quarantine zone named Perry. Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill will guest star.
Earlier this year, Judd Apatow’s next film was announced. The Bubble is a meta comedy for Netflix that focuses on a group of actors and their “pandemic bubble” (a la COVID-19) in a hotel while they’re shooting a film. The film comes from a script co-written with South Park‘s Pam Brady, and Pascal stars alongside a killer cast lineup that includes Karen Gillan, Keegan-Michael Key, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Leslie Mann, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Release Date: Unknown, but it’s worth noting that Gillan shared a celebratory video about wrapping on the film at the end of April.
Tropico
Pascal is set to appear in Tropico, a thriller directed by Giada Colagrande with a screenplay from Barry Gifford. Though minimal information has been released about the production since 2019, the synopsis details that it will follow “Raymond Sanz (Willem Dafoe), a veteran operative hired to spy on Mark, an American businessman (Pascal) in a steamy coastal town in Northern Brazil. However, things get more complicated when Sanz falls simultaneously for Mark’s wife, the mysterious and beautiful Lucia (Morena Baccarin), and her equally beautiful identical twin sister, Olivia (Baccarin).”
Release Date: Unknown
The Mandalorian season 3
Lucasfilm
Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian has been a success on all fronts throughout seasons 1 and 2, mesmerizing audiences with its compelling characters and faithfulness to the Star Wars universe. Pascal leads the show as Din Djarin, waltzing around in an intimidating wardrobe of beskar armor and conveying an impressive amount of emotions through his body language and the cadence of his voice alone. There’s also something to be said about the endearing amount of chemistry he has with the puppet behind his tiny green bounty-turned-sidekick Grogu.
Pascal will reprise his role in the series in its upcoming third season.
Release Date: Unknown, but we definitely won’t see an October/November 2021 release this time around. Hopefully we’ll see the continued exploits of Din in 2022. In the meantime, The Book of Boba Fett will be coming to Disney+ this December.
The likelihood of seeing Spider-Man variants in the upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home is, let’s face it, pretty high at this point. After the first teaser trailer was released late last month, the speculations about the film’s plot have only increased. Will we be getting a live-action Spider-Verse, or will the popular comic storyline Spider-Geddon reach big screens?
Unfortunately, we won’t have answers to the many questions fans have until the film’s December 17 release, but speculating the contents of the film is a great way to pass the time while we wait. To help you pass that time, check out our list of a few Spider-Man variants we want to see in the film, and a couple we can go without.
1. Want – Cosmic Spider-Man
Marvel
Cosmic Spider-Man, aka Captain Universe, is widely regarded as the most powerful iteration of the beloved web-slinger. In the Acts of Vengeance storyline, Peter Parker absorbs a mysterious power known simply as the Enigma Force. Enigma Force multiplies Parker’s powers exponentially while also granting him some extra abilities. Cosmic Spider-Man’s spider-senses become so powerful Parker can practically see through time and space, he can fly at basically the speed of light, he can manipulate matter down to the atom, and so much more. Cosmic Spider-Man is so strong he punched Gray Hulk into orbit.
We would be fine with seeing Cosmic Spider-Man as a variant, or even seeing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker evolve into Captain Universe eventually. This would definitely level the playing field Peter Parker now has to fight in featuring powerful beings like Scarlet Witch and Kang the Conquerer.
2. Want – Patton Parnel
Marvel
The MCU is not all rainbows and sunshine, and in recent years we have seen the films and series take scarier turns and explore the darker themes present in the comics. As such, we think now would be the perfect time to introduce Peter Parker’s darkest variant: Patton Parnel. While Parker is child-friendly, funny, charismatic, and caring, Parnel is the opposite. Parnel is depressing, sociopathic, and just downright terrifying.
And in case you couldn’t tell by the photo of Parnel above, his personality isn’t the only thing that makes him different from Parker. Following his spider bite, Parnel is able to transform into a grotesque eight-limbed, eight-eyed, fanged spider-like creature with organic (not technological) webbing. Parnel doesn’t last long (three days) but in that time manages to eat multiple people and implant spider babies into his love interest just by biting her neck. Overall just a neat variant of the classic character that would be interesting to see on the big screen.
3. Skip – Man-Spider
Disney
What if, instead of a human being bitten by a radioactive spider, a spider was bitten by a radioactive human? Marvel, of course, essentially has a terrifying answer to this question: Man-Spider. This version of Spider-Man has various backgrounds. In the comics, he was created by/as a result of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto. In Spider-Man: The Animated Series Peter Parker devolves into Man-Spider as time goes on from his original spider bite.
While Man-Spider also has the powers of our Peter Parker, he can also do completely terrifying things like spit acid and shoot webs out of every limb without the aid of web-shooters. Unfortunately, Man-Spider does not retain Parker’s memories or intelligence. Where he lacks intelligence, though, he makes up for with brute strength. While this is certainly one of the more powerful versions of Spider-Man, in terms of man-spider hybrids, we would definitely prefer to see a live-action Patton Parnel first.
4. Want – Spider-Man 2099
Marvel
In another alternate universe set in the future (2099) Miguel O’Hara is the man to take up the Spider-Man mantle. Rather than gaining spider-powers through a bite, O’Hara actually had his DNA mixed with the DNA of a spider. His powers are similar to the Spider-Man of Earth-616 that we all know and love, but he gains quite a few extras that would translate to the MCU well, in our opinion.
One such extra power is telepathy: O’Hara is able to communicate through the minds of others. Additionally, O’Hara actually has talons and fangs which he uses frequently to immobilize his enemies. The icing on the cake? Spider-Man 2099 has organic webs, just like Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the Earth-616 Spidey in 2002’s Spider-Man. With the likelihood that we will see Maguire’s Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home ever-increasing, it would be nice to have more than one Spider-Man with organic webbing.
5. Want – Miles Morales
Marvel
Next to Peter Parker, Miles Morales is perhaps the second most popular iteration of NYC’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Morales stepped into the spotlight following 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, so much so that Sony and Insomniac Games gave Morales his own spin-off video game: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Audiences love this iteration of Spider-Man, and now is perhaps the best possible time to introduce him into the MCU.
In addition to having all of the same powers as Peter Parker, Morales actually has quite a few extras that make him surpass Parker in strength. Morales is capable of becoming practically invisible thanks to Spider-Camouflage, as well as Bio-Electrokinesis abilities and perhaps even immortality. With the looming threat of Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius/Doc Ock appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, our Peter Parker could surely use all of the help he can get.
6. Skip – Golden Spongecake Spider-Man
Marvel
Earth-51914 is certainly a unique version of Earth in Marvel lore, and definitely one of the strangest. In 1975, Marvel and Hostess assembled to create a crossover advertisement for the latter’s tasty treats. In Earth-51914 everyone loves Hostess snack cakes and the superheroes take down their foes using only Hostess products.
Yes, you read that right. In Earth-51914 superheroes only fight with cakes, including our very own Spider-Man. Obviously, it is well established that this is an unrealistic fighting method. Therefore, Golden Spongecake Spidey is just too weak to make it in the MCU.
Bonus Variant: Spider-Ma’am
Marvel
Anything is possible in the multiverse, including Peter Parker forgetting his school lunch on the day his class takes a field trip. In the sacred timeline Peter does not forget his lunch and is bitten by a spider, and the rest is history. In an alternate timeline where Peter does forget his lunch, however, his sweet Aunt May could obviously not let him go hungry and tracked down his class at their field trip to ensure her nephew could eat. The result is May Parker being bitten by the spider rather than Peter.
While technically Spider-Ma’am does have the same strength and powers as Peter Parker, her fragile body and old age definitely hinder her crime-fighting capabilities. That doesn’t stop her from trying to make her neighborhood a better place, though. While perhaps seeing this older version of Spider-Ma’am isn’t high up on our list, it is intriguing to envision Marisa Tomei taking up that mantle as a younger version of the character.

Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter landed in theaters last week, a revenge thriller that explores the story of a man who’s living a spartan existence on the casino trail. William Tell is haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions, and the mundanity of his daily routine is eventually shattered by the arrival of a young man named Cirk.
Oscar Isaac leads The Card Counter, walking in the shoes of a man with the ashes of regret burning the back of his throat, masking his nightmares underneath a slick, self-assured persona. This isn’t the first role that’s tasked Isaac with a serious, heavy character study, and given his performance here, it certainly won’t be the last.
This is one of the darker roles across his career. Tell in particular challenged Isaac to tiptoe along a ledge, flirting with the blurred lines between right and wrong on his path to redemption. There’s an unforgettable moment between Tell and Cirk late in the film where Tell drops all pretense of the outward calm that he’s been projecting, giving way to a chilling, unsettling chasm with no end in sight. Sharp as a knife, Isaac commands this scene in a breathtaking manner.
The way that the film plays out places a heavy emphasis on the shoulders of its actors to carry the scenes. Isaac excels at this as he balances the magnitude of key moments with his expressive eyes and the carefully controlled cadence of his voice. Tiffany Haddish’s La Linda, meanwhile, counteracts Tell’s enigmatic tendencies, softening the edges of his story with an energy that reverberates through scenes in her wake. There’s also an endearing aspect to the relationship found between Tell and Tye Sheridan’s Cirk; the two are a fitting pair as they hit the road and embark on their journey.
Focus Features
And while The Card Counter works its way steadily through a tale that becomes increasingly engrossing as the chips pile up, the sounds and visuals along the way lend themselves appropriately to its overall allure. Specifically, the score is a standout accomplishment as it cascades between thrilling tension and dreamy tranquility.
In the throes of its final act, The Card Counter builds up with a white-hot intensity as Tell thrusts down his cards — both metaphorically and literally — and goes all in. The darkness that’s been been patiently lurking at the edges of the story bleeds across the page, an all encompassing affair. However, just as quickly as it comes, it crawls away with a quiet whimper that feels disappointing in a way.
There’s a disconnected and faraway feeling in the film’s final moments; it feels like an elegant crescendo tripping on the way out. It’s an irrefutable fact that the trajectory of the film’s narrative made the ending inevitable — a simple game of cause and effect. However, the final stop just ultimately didn’t feel as satisfying as the intriguing, intense ride to get there.
That being said, The Card Counter still stands as a compelling watch nonetheless and has plenty about it to appreciate and digest afterward.

Just in time for the Halloween season, Amazon Prime Video releases a teaser trailer for its new horror series. I Know What You Did Last Summer is a reboot in the way of a television show, this is a new telling of the fan-favorite 1997 slasher movie.
This teaser comes to life with the oddly perfect song choice of “Brutal” by Olivia Rodrigo. It sets the tone for the series that is firmly set in the modern world, with brightly colored scenes of teens partying at the forefront. While watching the carefree atmosphere it’s easy to get caught up in the fun of summer, but the secrets that are hiding underneath are bound to come to the surface.
The video soon takes a dark turn as the group of teens attempts to hide what they call an accident. The group plays teens preparing to embark on their senior year of high school and no doubt an unforgettable year. Joining them are Sebastian Amoruso, Cassie Beck, Fiona Rene, Bill Heck, and Brooke Bloom, with Spencer Sutherland and Sonya Balmores as recurring characters.
Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV are pairing up to produce the series. Producer on the original film Erik Feig will be joining the reboot as an executive producer this time around. Goodman, Shay, Hatten, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Rob Hackett, Michael Clear and James Wan are all attached as executive producers.
