This episode, Victor gets a hit on the dating app and decides to pursue it, finding himself on an unexpected date. Felix and Pilar face a rocky road after Isabel and Armando, and Benji revisits his own bad memories. Read on to find out what happens in “Lucas and Diego.”
Off the Record
The episode opens with Benji’s dad telling him that his record of the Wendy’s incident was expunged. Benji doesn’t seem too thrilled about the news, and his dad assures him it’s good for colleges — and that it means they don’t have to think about “that embarrassing day” anymore. In a flashback, a slightly younger Benji is questioned by his dad about NSFW pictures of men that somehow got uploaded to the family cloud. Benji covers by saying it was Lucy, which relieves his dad, who says that while there’s nothing wrong with being gay, he’s glad his son isn’t. Benji’s mom comes in, and his dad fills her in, laughing, and when he’s in the clear, Benji pulls out a bottle of alcohol.
Victor’s New? Date
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
During a shift at Brasstown, Victor tries to make small talk with Rahim, who knows Victor is stalling. Victor caves and asks how tutoring with Benji is going. When Andrew, who’s sitting nearby, comments, Victor and Rahim move to a farther table. Victor is frustrated he can’t talk to or hear about Benji, so Andrew comes over and tells him that the best way to get over someone is to “get under someone else,” and Rahim agrees. Victor shows Rahim his dating app profile (which looks very sketchy. Sorry, Victor). While Rahim fixes it for him, Andrew contrives a fake name, Diego (plus a backstory), and offers to let Victor use one of his shirtless ab pics.
During closing, Victor strikes up a conversation with someone named Lucas. When he gets home, Pilar asks for his walkie-talkie so she can talk to Felix and tells him about the birth control. When she leaves, Victor keeps talking with Lucas, who asks to meet at a place called Kooky Judy’s for drag queen bingo. Victor arrives and mistakenly (read: awkwardly) takes someone else for Lucas when who should show up but Benji. After a few moments, Victor realizes Benji is Lucas. They gently tease each other about their profiles before Victor wonders if Benji should be dating. Benji says no, but he wants to forget his problems and thinks it’s okay if Lucas and Diego enjoy themselves.
Not Mad, Just Disappointed
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
Inside Kooky Judy’s, Victor checks in with Benji, who wants to keep things light. So, they turn on Lucas and Diego when Benji wins the current round of Bingo. He goes up to claim his prize, which is a shot of alcohol. He declines it but feels embarrassed afterwards and asks to leave. On the walk home, Benji flashes back to the day of the Wendy’s incident — drinking, getting in the car, then waking up in the hospital where it’s implied he told his parents he’s gay. A bit later, we see another flashback. Benji is home from the hospital and overhears his parents talking, with his dad upset not only about the accident, but also that Benji is gay.
Victor notices Benji is being quiet and checks in with him. Benji tells Victor about his record getting expunged, bringing up a lot of memories. The conversation leads into rehab. Benji says it was intense but good, and he learned that he harbors a lot of anxiety and drinks to cope. Victor asks what Benji is anxious about and he explains his fear of disappointing everyone no matter what he does. Victor doesn’t think Benji could ever disappoint him, though Benji doesn’t believe it. He continues by wondering if it’s really best for them to be separated. Benji doesn’t know; he’s just listening to what people tell him. He needs to keep his life simple, and him and Victor are anything but.
The Secret’s Out
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
Meanwhile, Pilar and Felix face a fuming Armando and Isabel. Armando kicks Felix out before he and Isabel question Pilar about the birth control. She tries to explain that she and Felix aren’t having sex, but they don’t believe her, and Armando confiscates her tech. In her room, she radios Felix. She tells him about the birth control, which sends him into a light spiral. Pilar is frustrated, but Felix thinks Armando’s anger is warranted. He suggests they take a step back.
Later, Pilar sneaks to Felix’s bedroom window wanting to have sex, since she’s in trouble anyway. Felix is hesitant and ultimately decides no because he doesn’t want it to be out of spite, explaining how Isabel and Armando have taken care of him. Pilar says she can feel him pulling away and is worried they will break up. Felix tries to tell her it’s not true, but she leaves.
The Bad Kind of Chaos
Benji’s dad goes to see Victor. He saw them together and says Victor needs to stay away from Benji, claiming that Victor is the reason Benji relapsed, but Victor disagrees. In response, Benji’s dad mentions their relationship and what happened at the wedding. He finishes by saying that if Victor really cares about Benji, he’ll stay away, because all he does is create chaos.
A bit later, Victor goes to check on Pilar. She tells him how Felix needs Isabel and Armando to approve of him more than he needs Pilar. She adds that she knows Victor and Felix are best friends, and Victor will probably take his side, but he assures her that he will always be on hers. When prompted, Victor tells her that he realized he’s bad for Benji.

In the season 2 finale of Kung Fu, an earthquake shook San Francisco while seismic shifts occurred in the Shen family. It all came down to the final battle between Nicky, Zhilan, Mia, and Russell as the villain moved towards his goal of immortality. But will he be successful? Read on to find out what happened in “The Source”!
You Can’t Un-Ring That Bell
Dean Buscher/The CW
We dive right into the action where we left off last week, with San Francisco hit with a massive earthquake after Russell rings the bell. Harmony Dumplings is totally destroyed by the earthquake, though Mei-Li and Sebastian are physically okay. Ryan sets up a clinic at the community center. Henry rushes in, having witnessed Nicky and Zhilan go after Russell. The portal is closing, and if they don’t act fast, it will trap Nicky and Zhilan inside. Jin frantically tries to reach Mei-Li, but the phone lines are jammed. She is able to make it to the community center while Sebastian stays behind to hand out food. Evan rushes to the clinic with Mia, who is dying of shock. What she needs is a blood transfusion, but Ryan is going to have to improvise.
However, it turns out the imminent collapse of a shadow realm is enough to replace several gallons of blood as Mia sits upright, having sensed a disturbance in the force with the Source. Suddenly feeling just fine, she decides to run in after Nicky. Althea and Dennis arrive, and the rest of the Shens catch them up on all the supernatural shenanigans that have gone down in the last few hours. Shockingly, our buddy Dennis finally has something to contribute on the mystical object front. He recalls that in Dungeons and Dragons, immortal beings can sometimes be killed with the right weapon. Mia remembers the blade that Russell used to drain her. If it could kill Suyin, it could kill Russell. Henry, Evan, Althea, and Dennis will help Mia get the dagger, but she will have to go in alone.
(I Wanna Be) Forever Young
Dean Buscher/The CW
The bell cracks and opens a portal to the Source. Russell is able to pass through by covering himself in Mia’s blood, teasing that immortality is “only the beginning” for his plans. Nicky wants to go after Russell despite the danger, knowing that an immortal Russell is incredibly dangerous. Zhilan hesitates at first, worried they’ll die in the process. But Nicky points out the two of them are Warrior and Guardian. They can pass through the portal, but only together. Holding hands, they step inside.
The duo end up in a forest, not sure which direction to go. They center themselves, realizing that they can find the Source by following both of their instincts. Meanwhile, Russell hears voices and sees Juliette, covered in blood. She accuses him of breaking the rules to get into the portal and demands to know why he killed her and Kerwin. He finally breaks, saying he doesn’t want “what happened to him to end up happening to me.” The “him” he refers to is his own father, whose long decline at the end of his life made Russell decide to pursue immortality at all costs. His father’s supposed friends deserted him, and Russell was the only one by his side when he died. Watching his father die made Russell see mortality as a weakness others could exploit, and so he chased a way to keep that from happening to him too. He tries to push Juliette away, but he realizes it’s really Xiao using her face.
Zhilan also sees a hallucination that Nicky can’t. It’s her mother, and she splits off from Nicky to go after her. They share a tearful reunion as Zhilan shares everything she has done in her name. But her mother reminds her that they are Guardians; killing is not their way. Zhilan confesses to her mother what happened with Pei-Ling, hoping to find forgiveness for her actions. But instead, her mother rejects her and runs away, leaving a devastated Zhilan behind. Nicky is led to a shack, where she finds Suyin. The hybrid fights Nicky, trying to goad Nicky into killing her. But Nicky refuses.
Road to Redemption
Dean Buscher/The CW
Russell makes it to the Source, where Xiao waits. She is less powerful now, and Russell shares that he discovered the truth. If he takes the Source, her realm will cease to exist. Nicky tries to get Zhilan to join her in following Russell, but she is still reeling from her encounter with her mother. She tells Nicky she was right about her. She’s a monster who doesn’t deserve forgiveness. But Nicky tells her she forgives her, “It’s not about what you’ve done; it’s about what you do.” They need to stop Russell. Zhilan agrees, and they go after him together.
They reach Russell as he grabs the Source, power coursing through his veins. Xiao appears to say there’s no stopping Russell now. But Zhilan and Nicky are determined to try, and they fight back. Suddenly, Mia rushes in, stabbing him with the knife that killed Suyin. It doesn’t work, but now all three team up.
Nicky realizes the only way to stop him is for one of them to stay behind while the other two close the portal. She volunteers, self sacrificing as always, but Mia insists it should be her and that she’s past saving. Nicky gently tells her that no one is past saving as she looks to Zhilan. Zhilan calls Nicky a true hero as she makes Mia leave the cave with her.
But at the last moment, Zhilan has a change of heart. Her connection with Mia has made her want to give her the life she didn’t have. She pushes Nicky out of the way and stabs Russell, telling her “little monk” Nicky to go. As roles are reversed, Mia makes Nicky leave while Zhilan stays. She finally gets revenge for both Kerwin and her mother, holding Russell down while the cave comes down around them. The realm collapses as Nicky and Mia just make it out, where Evan and Henry are waiting.
They head back to Harmony Dumplings, where the Shens are beginning to repair the damage. But they’re not alone. The entire community turns out to help them, recognizing the restaurant for the community institution it is.
Alone in his apartment, Henry is visited by Yuen. He flashes back to his father’s death and his last words: “I’m sorry I never told you who you really are.” She gives him a box of his father’s things, including a ring. That night, Nicky stops by, and Henry tells her about his father’s death and his journals. He’s leaving to go after Si Nan, something his father was searching for. She offers to go with him, but he says he has to do it alone.
Mia pursues training at the monastery while Nicky sees reminders of Henry everywhere. She trains alone as a little girl watches, asking Nicky to show her how to do what she’s doing. In the final shot of season 2, a storm rages while a figure makes their way through the woods. It’s Pei-Ling, seemingly back from the dead.
Kung Fu will return for season 3 this fall on The CW. You can find our other coverage of the series here!
In episode 4 of this season, Victor and Nick continue their relationship, but it’s not exactly what Victor was hoping for. Armando and Isabel find out some news, and Rahim begins tutoring Benji. Read on to find out what happens in “You Up?”
Boys Just Wanna Have Fun
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
The episode opens with a montage of Victor getting various “u up?” texts from Nick and seeing him. During the last one, he asks Nick if he’d want to go on a date sometime, because he thinks it’d be nice. Nick isn’t looking for a relationship though. He prefers to keep things casual and “hang out” with other people, which Victors claims he’s fine with.
At school, Rahim tells Victor that he’s tutoring Benji. Victor reminds Rahim that Benji isn’t his biggest fan, but Rahim is sure Benji will grow on him. Victor spots Benji, who’s deep in homework. This seems to be the push that gets Victor to “u up?” Nick and go to his house. They meet in the backyard, and Victor says he wants to have fun. Cue them hooking up under Nick’s sister’s playhouse (always the ideal place).
The Jig Is Up
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
Armando spots Pilar and Felix talking in the stairwell. When Isabel comes home, he asks her if friends cup each other’s faces, offering a demonstration and saying he saw Pilar do that to Felix. Isabel thinks Felix probably just had something on his face. Armando doesn’t think so, mentioning how Pilar has been acting differently towards them, and they both realize she’s seeing Felix.
Pilar comes home and Isabel and Armando confront her about Felix. Isabel says Armando saw the face cupping and is giving Pilar a chance to be honest, so Pilar confesses. Armando is angry that she lied, which escalates when Pilar says she and Felix aren’t having sex; he doesn’t trust she’s not still lying. In response, Pilar reminds him about the times he interfered in her previous relationships, which causes him to snap and sends her to her room.
Victor Gets the Itch
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
Back home, Felix goes to sees Victor and asks how things went with Nick. Victor is thrilled and begins telling Felix about it when he begins furiously scratching his crotch. Concerned and confused, Victor asks Felix to look away while he checks out what’s happening in the mirror. (Spoiler alert: Felix does not look away and does not help matters.) Victor begins freaking out, thinking he might have an STI. Felix suggests he go to the free clinic to find out for sure.
While Victor waits for the doctor, he tries to call Nick who declines the call and immediately texts Victor about it instead. The doctor comes in and asks a few questions before examining Victor. And his “oh, boy” does little to instill confidence. Victor heads back to the waiting room where Felix is and reveals it’s just poison ivy. Still, he wonders if this would’ve happened at all had he been with Benji. Then, Pilar, who’s rather upset, Facetimes Felix to tell him that Armando knows about them. Felix tries to console her. She says she doesn’t want to break up with the person she loves, which stops Felix in his tracks. However, he does love her, too, and they’ll figure out everything when he gets home. After they hang up, Victor lets Felix know he’s happy for them.
Common Ground
Rahim and Benji do homework at Brasstown. Rahim tries to be nice, but Benji would rather just work. Rahim notes that they’re two of very few out gay kids at school and would rather be cordial to each other. He continues and reveals he told Victor about the tutoring, which annoys Benji who just wants to work. Things go fine when Rahim gets a text that upsets him, and he begins looking for a change of clothes he forgot to pack. He tells Benji that his uncle, who is visiting from Iran, is picking him up. He explains that his uncle is Iranian, very religious, and most likely doesn’t believe in gay people. So, while he’s visiting, Rahim’s parents asked him to go back in the closet. Rahim is trying to be cool about it, because if his uncle finds out and tells people back in Iran, it could ruin his family. Thankfully, Benji has an idea.
Benji brings Rahim to the lost and found to find a shirt Rahim is very resistant towards. Benji apologizes for being a jerk about tutoring, explaining that it happens when he gets overwhelmed. When Rahim asks, Benji says he’s worried about disappointing everyone, something the two have in common. Benji pulls out another shirt that Rahim eventually takes. While he changes, Benji makes a joke that lightens the mood.
Mother-Daughter’s Friend Shopping Trip
Kelsey McNeal/Hulu
Mia and Lake are in Lake’s room when Georgina comes in and throws a criticism at Lake, who asks what Georgina wants. She tells them about a boutique opening she’s invited to and wants to bring the girls. Lake declines and volunteers Mia. Georgina is thrilled and is excited to take Mia shopping. When she leaves, Mia gives Lake a look. Lake explains she doesn’t want to spend the day getting criticized and being asked about boys, revealing she doesn’t plan to tell her mom about Lucy. Lake asks again and Mia agrees.
At the clothing store, Georgina asks if everything is okay with Lake, and Mia says yes. Georgina shares how she wasn’t close to her mom and wanted to change that with Lake, but alas. She’s glad Lake has Mia, though. When they get back, Mia tells Lake the trip was nice and that she saw another side of Georgina who wishes she were closer to Lake. She adds that Georgina wants to support Lake and loves her, and Lake should tell her about Lucy. Lake gets annoyed and leaves.
Later, Mia finds Lake and apologizes, reminding Lake that she’s always on her side, but it felt nice to have a mom take interest in her. Lake gets it and explains that she can’t tell Georgina about Lucy because of how she criticizes everything Lake likes. Mia thinks it’s time Lake stood up for herself and tell Georgina how she feels.
Own Your Power
Georgina finds Lake studying, again making a critical remark about Lake. Lake takes Mia’s words to heart and asks why Georgina is always criticizing her no matter what Lake does. Georgina says she didn’t know. She tells Lake how her position as a public persona has led her to become more aware of physical appearance because of what fans (bullies) say about her. She wanted to spare Lake from that but realizes she was the bully. Georgina emphasizes she believes Lake is perfect and any boy would be lucky to have her. This pushes Lake to tell Georgina about Lucy, and she seems happy about it. She asks if it means Lake is bi, but Lake doesn’t know yet and asks if Georgina is okay. She is, adding that finally Lake has something that makes her interesting for college essays. Lake points it out and Georgina notes it.
Meanwhile, Victor also takes a firm stand after Nick sends another “u up?” text. Victor calls him, but, of course, he doesn’t answer. Victor instead leaves a voicemail. He tells Nick that he wants something more. He understands Nick likes things casual, but Victor doesn’t, and he doesn’t want to keep doing that. At school, he sees Benji and Rahim celebrating something. (Benji passed his math test!) Shortly after, Victor downloads a gay dating app.
No More Secrets. Maybe.
Armando digs through his tool bag for something to take Pilar’s door off the hinges. Isabel finds him and agrees that Pilar has a point. Armando just wants to protect his little girl, and Isabel says that’s the problem. She notes that he should be glad it’s Felix; he likes Felix. After a moment, he calls for Pilar and tells her Isabel pointed some things out. Pilar says Felix wanted to tell them and adds that they’re happy and in love. That softens Armando a bit who asks that there are no more secrets. A few moments later, Felix shows up and is ready to take any punishment. Pilar tells him that her parents are on board, and Felix hugs them.
But it turns out there is still one more secret. As Isabel collects Pilar’s dirty laundry, she finds something in one of Pilar’s socks: birth control pills.
