Late last night Danneel Ackles (Supernatural, One Tree Hill) announced a fund-raiser she and her husband, Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Smallville) will be participating in to help raise money for Out Youth and Random Acts.

If you missed it earlier this week, Jensen is one of the people who has signed up to run a 26.2 mile marathon in Seattle (dubbed “The Bad Idea Tour”) alongside co-workers Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, Rachel Miner, and Jason Manns. According to the Crowdrise post, Jensen needs some help to train for the marathon, and they decided to raise some money for two good causes while they’re at it.
Jensen and Danneel will be hosting two SoulCycle classes on September 15, 2018, in Austin, Texas, and according to the event website, this is how you can get in on the fun:
Come jump on a bike with us for a 45-minute ride, then hang out afterwards for 30 minutes of refreshments, sweaty photos, and conversation! The first 114 participants that donate $100 or more AND fill out this form will get to join us for a ride; the top 12 donors in each class will be moved to the front row of the class for up-close motivation from Jensen and our amazing instructor Chris Chandler.
Jensen also got online to help spread the word with a video.
If you aren’t already familiar with the causes they’re raising money for, Random Acts is a non-profit organization started by Misha Collins (Supernatural). The home page on their website explains what they do as simply as possible. “At Random Acts, it’s our mission to conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time. We are here to inspire acts of kindness around the world both big and small. We provide a vast network of caring people with the encouragement and support they need to change lives for the better.”
Danneel explained all about Out Youth in her own words on the Crowdrise page, saying, “Out Youth is an incredible Austin organization which offers youth of all sexual orientations and gender identities a place where they are loved, acknowledged, and accepted for exactly who they are.”
100% of the proceeds Danneel and Jensen raise will be split evenly between both causes, so there’s no going wrong if you choose to donate! If you’re not able to get one of the 114 bikes to participate at SoulCyle in Austin, you can still donate directly to Jensen and Danneel’s Crowdrise page right here!
This is a unique opportunity to get up-close and personal with Jensen and Danneel while also helping to raise money for two worthy causes, so don’t miss out!
We have an exciting interview to share with you! We interviewed Louden Swain (Rob Benedict, Billy Moran, Michael Borja, and Stephen Norton) about their brand new acoustic album, Splitting the Seams, which is set to be released on October 26.
This will be the eighth album from the band, and will feature old songs that have been reimagined acoustically, as well as some brand new original ones. They were so gracious to answer some of our questions, and even gave us a good teaser about another new song!
Read the answers below!
Nerds and Beyond: What made you decide to name the new acoustic album Splitting the Seams?
Louden Swain: It’s a lyric in one of the songs previously recorded and on the acoustic version of our upcoming album.
Nerds and Beyond: You debuted a new song, “Too Far Away”, at Once Upon A Canyon Night. Will there be any other original songs on Splitting the Seams?
Louden Swain:There will be one more original song on the album that we recorded and worked out in the studio which you may have all heard before. We’ll give you a clue…it’s in a movie written by and starring Rob.
Nerds and Beyond: We know a few of the songs that will be on the new album thanks to Once Upon A Canyon Night. Which of those has been the most fun to re-imagine acoustically so far?
Louden Swain: Rock Song and Overachiever were probably the most fun to re-imagine. These two songs were originally written and recorded with high energy and a wall of sound. It was fun for us to put a different approach on both of these tunes. It was great to have Billy’s parts on both these songs especially, since he wasn’t in the band when we originally recorded them. We would also put Big One on this list as well. Overall, we think the fans will be blown away with all the final recorded versions of these tunes.
Nerds and Beyond: Were there any songs you wanted on the album, but couldn’t make work for whatever reason?
Louden Swain: We recorded 15 songs for the new acoustic album and still in the final stages of mixing, mastering and listening to the final versions of the songs. Right now, it’s too early to tell which will make the album and which songs will be released at a later date.
Nerds and Beyond: What has been the best part of making the album? The most challenging?
Louden Swain: The best part is and always has been the creative aspect of recording, especially on this album. We pushed ourselves to come up with different approaches to each song and added instrument parts in our songs that excited us. But we don’t want to give away what those parts are. Most challenging was the time to get in the studio to record given our busy schedules.
Nerds and Beyond: What specifically inspired you to do an acoustic album?
Louden Swain: I think playing these songs in our StageIt shows and acoustic jams at the conventions before signing autographs was the beginning of the idea to record this album. But it was the fans’ reactions to these acoustic versions acted a catalyst that really sparked us and inspired us to do this album. So a big THANK YOU to our fans!!!
Nerds and Beyond: How do you think you’ve grown as musicians, compared to when you first released some of the original versions of these songs to now?
Louden Swain: I think for some of us, after hearing the original recorded versions of these tunes, we wished we’d play a specific part a certain way or sang a vocal a different way when we first recorded them. Some songs on the upcoming acoustic album we changed the key from the original recording. The album gave us an opportunity to put those parts in the songs the way we’d always wanted to record and play them.
Nerds and Beyond: What song off the album was originally the hardest to write?
Louden Swain: I would say it was more difficult to re-imagine the songs than anything else. The band was really focused on recording different approaches to our songs, whether it would be a melody line, guitar lick, bass part or percussion approach. We wanted to provide our fans a different listening experience from our previous albums as opposed to exact acoustic versions of our electrified songs.
Nerds and Beyond: Last we heard, the album was scheduled for a release in October. Is that still the plan?
Louden Swain: The plan is still to release the album on October 26th. So stay tuned. Visit www.loudenswain.com for any upcoming news related to our upcoming release.
Thank you again to Louden Swain for being so awesome and answering our questions!
“Falling” is the penultimate episode of the Sharp Objects series. It was written by Gillian Flynn, the author of the book upon which the series is based. An arrest is made, heroes become villains, and we finally learn the truth about Marian’s death.
Obligatory spoiler warning: read ahead at your own risk!
Camille wakes up the next morning after partying with Amma the night before. She is in her bed, in a white nightgown. Adora is sitting in a rocking chair in the corner, waiting for her to wake up. She has a tray containing an ice pack and what looks like medicine. She gives Camille what looks like jello to prepare her for the medicine. “A little sweet before the bitter. It helps.” When Adora tries to give Camille the medicine, she refuses it, disregards her mother’s pleas to stay in bed and rest, and she gets dressed for the day.
Camille then goes to check on Amma, who is in her bedroom. When she walks in, Amma asks, “She gave you the blue?” (The medicine Adora wanted to give Camille was in a blue glass jar.) Camille tells her she didn’t take any. Amma then tells her that John Keene is getting arrested today. Her friend has a cousin who works for a judge and found out through them.
Meanwhile, Detecive Willis arrives at a local clinic looking for a nurse, Beverly. He got her name from Jackie and tells her, “She says you might know something about a Marian Crellin?”
Camille drives by John and Ashley’s house, which is now surrounded by police cars. She sees Ashley in the front yard arguing with Chief Vickery about entering her home. “We have a search warrant,” he tells her. He motions to Camille to leave, and she drives away.
Inside the home, Vickery pleads with Ashley to give up John’s whereabouts. She says he left for a drive the night before and hasn’t returned since. She also says that she does not want to give him up – otherwise, she will “look like a total bitch” to the town. Vickery says that the townspeople will see her as a hero, who took strides to prevent future murders. “You mean, like my name in the paper?” she asks, interested. “Face on TV, I reckon,” he says enticingly. She then moves her eyes to their bed, suggesting he look there for clues. (Remember the blood stain she frantically cleaned in the fourth episode, “Ripe”?)
Back at the local clinic, Detective Willis is looking through Marian’s massive stack of medical records. He asks Beverly the nurse what Marian’s cause of death was. What Beverly says next is alarming. “That’s the thing – she got passed around. Different doctors, different diagnoses. Crohn’s, heart palpitations, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal issues, renal issues…all those conditions suspected, none of them confirmed.”
Beverly admits that she kept a copy of Marian’s records intentionally, hoping they would come in handy one day. She goes on to explain to the detective Munchausen’s by Proxy Syndrome (MbP), a mental condition in which a person makes another person ill, in order to gain sympathy from those around them. It’s most commonly perpetuated by a parent onto their child.
“You denied every request for information,” Willis says. “I did what the doctors told me to do,” Beverly replies. “Why didn’t you go to the police?” he asks. “I did, and then I lost my job at the hospital, after which I never heard another thing about it.”
Back at the Preaker/Crellin home, Adora walks into Amma’s bedroom with her tray of medicine, including the blue glass jar. Amma tells her that she isn’t really sick and doesn’t need the medicine. Adora claims this must mean that Amma no longer needs her for anything – laundry, cleaning her room, paying for clothes, etc. Adora then begins to dismantle Amma’s grand doll house that is an exact replica of the Preaker/Crellin home. This angers Amma, because she loves the doll house, and she finally agrees to accept the medicine.
“It hurts me that you don’t trust me to do the best for you,” Adora tells her daughter.
In town, Detective Willis runs into Chief Vickery at the local diner. Willis says that he knows the eyewitness to John’s planting of Ann Nashs’ bike on the Crellin farm can’t have seen anything, because he works during daytime hours, and the bike would have had to be planted after dark. Vickery says it doesn’t matter, because the worker said what was necessary to get them the search warrant for John’s home. Vickery then tells Willis that they did find blood under John and Ashley’s bed.
“What do you know about how Marian Crellin died?” Willis asks Vickery. When Vickery disregards his line of questioning, Willis says Marian’s nurse believes something sinister took place. “Is that the same nurse who got fired for malpractice? If you want to help me look for John Keene, that’s fine. Otherwise, you can go home.” Vickery then leaves the diner.
Camille is driving through town, looking for other bars in which John could be hiding. He stumbles upon a “bar” which is really someone’s home in an area of town we haven’t seen before. John’s Jeep is parked outside.
Inside the house, she sees John and orders him (and her) a double shot. She sits down at his table and asks him what he is doing there. He says that he knows the police are after him, and he can’t return home. He says he would rather kill himself in the woods than get arrested. Camille asks him to tell her his story, whatever it is, that this is his chance to defend himself. He also tells her that his sister’s fingernails were painted when the police found her, and that painting her nails is something Natalie never would have done. And then finally, John says the words, “I didn’t kill my sister,” and Camille says that she believes him.
Detective Willis arrives at the hospital to review medical records. (Beverly the nurse has called her friends at the hospital, asking them to help Willis however they can.) He receives a stack of Amma’s medical records and starts flipping through them, once again seeing multiple medical diagnoses, multiple doctors’ names, etc. He sees that she had a g-tube inserted at 6 weeks of age, which allows food to be inserted directly into the stomach, usually in cases where swallowing is difficult or impossible.
Camille has brought a very intoxicated John Keene to the local motel to dry out before turning himself in to the cops. Vickery and Willis are now both on their way to the motel, after an anonymous top has given the cops his location.
Adora enters Amma’s bedroom to check on her. Amma asks her what she thinks she will be when she grows up. Does she think she’ll have kids? Adora says there is no way to know, because that it years away. “Do you think I’ll grow up?” Amma asks. “Is that why you want me to stay little? So I’ll be like Marian?” Adora tells her that her fever must be getting worse and gives her the last of the “medicine” from the blue glass jar.
Back at the motel, John asks Camille about her scars on her arm that he has seen before. He asks her to show him her scars – all of them. She hesitates, but agrees. He reads to her all the words she has carved onto herself over the years: “drain,” “cherry,” “sick, “god,” “wrong,” “falling.” Camille says to him, “You’re reading me.”
Adora is mixing another batch of “medicine,” using a mortar and pestle to grind up various pills. She seemingly has all the measuring cups and spoons and elixirs she needs to concoct whatever she wants. The final mixture is poured into the blue glass jar.
“How bad?” Alan asks her, seeing what she is doing. “Very bad. Poor thing,” Adora tells him.
At the motel, John and Camille are lying in bed. Camille sees a scar on John’s arm asn asks him if his sister did that to him. He sayd she said, and then he says that the only person who ever cared for Natalie was Adora. “The lost girls…the ones that everybody else gave up on. She never gave up on them… like she was trying to solve them.” “I never let her solve me,” Camille says. “Maybe I should have.”
At this point, Detective Willis and Chief Vickery burst through the door, ready to arrest John. Willis is shocked to find Camille in bed with John, of course. John is handcuffed and read his rights, and Vickery leaves the room so Willis and Camille can talk. She tries to explain herself but fails. She then tells Willis that John isn’t guilty of either murder. He tells her that they found Natalie’s blood under John and Ashley’s bed.
They argue some more, and Willis leaves upset. But before he drives off, he leaves Marian’s medical records in Camille’s car. And when Camille sees the folder, she rifles through them and notices that Jackie O’Neill filed numerous requests for information from Marian’s records – years’ worth.
Camille rushes to Jackie’s house. She asks a very drunk Jackie why she filed so many requests for information – what was she looking for? Jackie doesn’t answer her but says all of her requests were denied. She then begins talking about Marian’s funeral – how beautiful everything was, how Adora never looked more beautiful than she was on that day. And then she tells Camille that Adora had Marian cremated. This news shocks Camille understandably, because her sister had an open casket funeral.
Jackie then says to Camille, “You don’t like my [mixed drinks], but everytime I ask you to take a drink with me, you do. Why is that? That’s because it’s easier. It was easier for Marian. You made it hard – hard on yourself, hard on Adora. But Marian knew it was easier, to just lie back and take it.”
Camille realizes that Jackie (no longer my favorite in this story) has not only confirmed Adora’s abuse of Marian, but that she did nothing to stop it. Jackie said no one would have believed her anyway. Camille runs out of her house and drives off. In her car, Camille calls her boss, Frank, sobbing. She tells him that her mother did it, and that she’s doing it again. And she needs to take care of it.
As she is rushing back home, Camille has another flashback. She is 18 years old or so, sitting on the stairs at home, watching her mom hold newborn Amma, rocking her. She then sees Adora bite Amma on the cheek so hard that Amma screams. And then she hears Adora say to no one in particular, “God has given me another sick baby.”
The final scene shows Alan listening to music. It’s the Everly Brothers, and he is reminiscing back to a time when Amma was about 8 years old. Amma bounces down the stairs to dance with her father, as the song begins to play:
Down in the willow garden/Where me and my love did meet
As we set a courtin’/My love fell off to sleep.
I had a bottle of burgundy wine/My love she did not know
So I poisoned that dear little girl/’long the banks below.
It seems this episode answered most of the lingering questions I had, so I searched Twitter to read others’ reactions to the episode. The following two tweets caught my eye:
The best part of having read the book is watching Twitter get taken for a ride #SharpObjects
So we aren’t done learning everything after all. Stay tuned for a recap of the final episode of the series, “Milk.” I have a feeling it’s going to be a very wild ride.
The latest episode of Sharp Objects, “Cherry,” primarily focuses on the relationship between Camille and Amma. But there is a break in the case of the two murdered girls, and John Keene’s girlfriend Ashley plays a more prominent role. And for the first time in the series, Camille’s sister Marian speaks.
Here is a recap of “Cherry.”
Spoilers ahead, so beware!
We pick up from last week’s episode, when Camille is running through the woods with the search party, trying to locate Amma. She sees a girl in white – her sister, Marian – and she follows her. As she turns a corner, Camille sees another girl in white – this time, it’s Natalie Keene. She follows the vision to the hunting shed and rescues Amma.
Camille wakes up in Detective Willis’ motel room. He asks her if she would like to come back over tonight, but she tells him that she has plans. In another part of town, we see Chief Vickery getting ready for work. And then we see Alan at the Preaker/Crellin home waking up. He is sleeping on a hideaway bed in a guest room.
Adora is awakened by a phone call, and her only response is, “Don’t do a thing until I get there.”
Camille checks in on Amma to see how she is holding up after last night’s ordeal, and Amma is decked out in her “civvies” and skates, ready to meet her friends in town. Camille tells her that she should take it easy and rest, but Amma brushes her off. Then, Amma shows Camille two scratches on her left arm and says, “If I connect these two, I can make a ‘C’ for ‘Camille.'” Needless to say, this infuriates and scares Camille. Amma apologizes, says she was only joking, and thanks her sister for rescuing her the previous night.
In town, Detective Willis runs into Jackie, who is rearranging/checking up on the makeshift memorial that was set up at the location where Natalie Keene’s body was discovered, in an alley. He asks her if she knows anything about Camille’s latest stay at a hospital (which Adora clued him in on). Jackie won’t divulge any information, but she tells him that he’s “getting warmer.” Willis leaves Jackie and calls in to dispatch a request for information on admittance records to local hospitals for a Camille Preaker.
At Crellin Farms, Chief Vickery is overseeing the recovery of a child’s bike from a small irrigation pond. Adora, Willis, and Bob Nash are present. Bob confirms that the bike blonged to his daughter, Ann, when he sees the colorful flowers on the bike seat and walks away inconsolable.
At John and Ashley’s house, Amma and some other girls are tanning by the pool. Amma unmistakeably hits on John, suggesting they have plenty of time alone before Ashley returns home from cheerleading practice. Meanwhile, Camille arrives at the house to continue her interview of Ashley, and she stumbles upon the scene at the pool. She interrupts the one-way flirting to be greeted by Ashley who has suddenly returned.
During the interview, Ashley does not provide any new information worth Camille’s time. Camille starts to gather her things to leave, and Ashley admits that she is not telling her everything she knows, in order to protect John. She tells Camille that she doesn’t want John becoming “too popular,” but she does not elaborate.
Camille notices an old injury on Ashley’s right ear – an old bite mark.
Then, Ashley’s cheerleading outfit sets off a flashback in Camille’s mind. In the memory, Camilly is 18 years old with long hair. She is on the football field with her teammates at practice. Camille kneels down to relax, saying she has a leg cramp. A teammate, Becca, offers to massage her calf, and while she is doing so, she sees a small trail of blood running down Camille’s back thigh. Camille realizes that her teammate sees this, and she runs off the field.
In present time, Willis calls Camille and informs her about Ann’s bike being found on the Crellin property. Camille rushes home and confronts Adora about it, upset that she was not contacted about the break in the case. She asks if the workers on the farm contacted her or the police first. Adora is offended at the implication and tells Camille to stop interviewing her. When Camille goes inside the house, Adora tells Alan, “I believe she’s outstayed her welcome.”
Detective Willis has arrived at a hospital – it’s the same hospital that Camille stayed in before coming to Wind Gap, the same hospital where she shared a room with Alice. He has come under the pretense that he wants to learn the type of person who checks himself or herself into the hospital, to assist with his investigation of the two murders. The head of the hospital tells Willis that, while patients may become aggressive or agitated, the typical patient that they treat is rarely violent and often take out their anger on themselves.
Back home, Camille meets Alan on the front porch, and he tells her that she needs to leave the house because she is making her mother ill. “I know how jealous you’ve always been of other people’s well being,” he says to her. He also tells her that she reminds him of Joya, Adora’s mother, who would watch over the house like a witch. “The only time I ever saw her smile was when you refused to nurse from Adora.”
At this point, a friend of Camille’s arrives to pick her up for a get-together at another friend’s home. The friend shows Camille that she has an unopened bottle of liquor and some ice, and Camille unsurprisingly partakes. As they drive, it is clear that the friend is trying to get Camille drunk.
At the get-together, it becomes clear that the women are Camille’s former cheerleading teammates. They gather each week to watch sappy movies, drink, and cry together. One woman breaks down and admits that she has returned to work. Another woman declares that her husband does not want any more children, because four is enough. An adult Becca (from the cheerleading flashback earlier) approaches Camille and tells her, “This shit happens every week,” and motions for her to escape with her outside.
Eventually, the other women find Camille and Becca, and they all gather around to gossip about the muder investigations. One woman says that she can’t understand how Camille can report on such gruesome details, and another offers that it is because Camille does not have children herself. “I don’t think part of your heart can ever work if you don’t have kids,” says another.
In town, Detective Willis runs into Jackie at the local bar. Jackie is quite drunk, so Willis takes the opportunity to ask her some questions about Camille. He asks her why she was in rehab. He knows she was harming herself, but he wanted to know why. Jackie says she won’t tell him anything, except that Camille became lost when her sister died. When Willis asks her how Marian died, Jackie says that she was a “sickly child.” Willis asks her if there was an autopsy performed, and Jackie replies, “Adora Crellin was not going to let them carve up her little girl, no.”
Becca drives Camille from the get-together back to the local store in town, which is not far from the Preaker/Crellin home. Camille turns to Becca and asks her why she was being so nice to her, even though she and the others were so mean to her in high school. Becca says that she knew Camille was going through a difficult time, with losing her sister and taking it out on herself. She tells Camille that she saw the source of the blood on her thigh that day in high school – it was from cuts, not her period,
Becca leaves Camille at the store, and a few minutes later, Amma and her gang arrive. They’re on their way to a party, and Amma invites her sister. Camille reluctantly agrees to go.
On the way to the party, each person in the car takes some Oxycontin from Amma’s personal stash.
They arrive at the party, and there are about 100 high schoolers there. After a few minutes, John and Ashley arrive and instantly capture everyone’s attention. Partygoers immediately yell at them to leave. Before leaving, however, Ashley sees Camille and asks her how “her” interview is coming. Caimlle tells her that she didn’t provide any newsworthy information worth writing about. “But I’ve already told everyone I’m going to be in it!” Ashley says.
Camille then asks her about the old bite wound on her ear. “Did Natalie do that to you?” Camille asks. “If you want to know about Natalie, you should ask your mom,” Ashley replies. Ashley then leaves the party to shoults of “baby killer!” from the partygoers.
Eventually, Camille and Amma leave the party together on their skates, heavily under the influence of alcohol, Oxycontin, and now Ecstasy. The sisters skate through the deserted town in the middle of the night, and snippets of memories cut in and out of Camille’s vision the entire time: views of Alice in the hospital; skating with Marian as a 15-year-old; the hunting shed in the woods.
They skate by the local diner, where Chief Vickery has just arrived to meet Detective Willis for a meeting. Vickery tells Willis that he will be going back to Kansas City tomorrow, because a worker on the Crellin farm identified John Keene as the one who dumped Ann Nash’s bike in the lagoon.
Amma and Camille have made it back home and are sitting outside, trying to be quiet even though they are both completely stoned and drunk. They begin dancing in the yard, and they hold hands and spin in a circle together. Camille watches Amma turn into Marian, and then into Natalie Keene, and then into Ann Nash. They stop dancing and go upstairs to Camille’s room, as quietly as possible. As Amma starts to fall asleep on Camille’s bed, Camille looks into the mirror and watches Amma turn into Marian again.
Marian tells Camille, “It’s not safe here for you.”
Stay tuned for a recap of the 7th episode of the series, “Falling.” The 7th and 8th episodes of the series are written by the author of Sharp Objects herself, Gillian Flynn, so prepare yourselves for shocking twists and turns!
Season 9 of The Walking Dead returns with a large time jump that will introduce us to new characters. One of those new characters will be played by Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, Outsiders, Bates Motel) who will be playing Beta, second in command for The Whisperers. It has been revealed they will be the new villains of season 9, wreaking havoc for Rick, Daryl and their group. If you thought Negan was bad, just wait!
In the comic book written by Robert Kirkman, The Whisperers are a group of people who as a way of survival wear the skin of walkers to fool both the walkers and humans they encounter. I am curious to see how much of the comic book version of The Whisperers and Beta we will see.
Hurst announced his involvement on Twitter by showing a picture of his character from the comic.
Supernatural fans everywhere were justifiably outraged when we got Richard Speight Jr., back as the Gabriel in Season 13 only for the archangel to be killed off again in the same season. But not to worry! That’s not it for Richard Speight, Jr. and Supernatural.
Though we may not get him back on our screen, he posted on Instagram yesterday letting us know that he’s back at work behind the scenes! That’s right, Richard Speight Jr. started his first day of prep on set for Supernatural Season 14, Episode 6.
Day 1 of my prep for #supernatural episode 1406 and look what I find spread out across the conference room table. Arts and crafts are alive and well in the production office thanks to @EmmaPeterson_ and @JasonFischer77. Help ‘em keep it up - keep those supplies coming! pic.twitter.com/4MkD8IYsIY
Richard Speight, Jr. has already directed the second episode in Season 14, and with other fan-favorite episodes “Unfinished Business” in Season 13 and “Stuck In The Middle (With You)” in Season 12 under his belt, we already know to expect great things when he’s in charge!
Supernatural Season 14 is set to premiere on Thursday, October 11, 2018 on the CW.
If you were at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural convention in Charlotte this weekend, you might have heard when Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, Rachel Miner, and Jason Manns announced that they’ve been training for a marathon.
They collectively dubbed the idea “The Bad Idea Tour” and there weren’t many details announced at the time, but now we can fill in some blanks!
Image via CrowdRise
Jared, Jensen, Misha, Rob, Rachel, and Jason will be running in the Seattle Marathon as part of Random Acts’ Endure 4 Kindness (E4K) event! According to the website, the Bad Idea Tour will take place on November 25th during the E4K, which runs from November 22-25th.
In the description from the Crowdrise website, it tells us a little bit more about what The Bad Idea Tour entails:
The Supernatural cast had a really bad idea… for a good cause.
We have decided to run 26.2 miles to raise funds to help fight childhood hunger!
Random Acts’ Endure 4 Kindness (E4K) fundraiser is about going the distance to affect change, so on November 25, our team (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, Jason Manns, Rachel Miner, and maybe some of our spouses) will run the Seattle Marathon to support kids in need!
All over the globe, too many kids go hungry. In the US alone, 1 in 6 kids don’t know where their next meal is coming from. This fundraiser will focus on helping feed kids in many of the poorest areas in the US and around the world.
We’ll endure 26.2 miles of aching muscles to try to make a small difference. We may end up carrying each other, but it’s your support that will get us over the finish line… So donate now and help our “bad idea” do as much good as possible!
You can donate directly here to support some of our favorite people and a really great cause, or if you’d rather, check out the E4K Website to sign up to raise your own funds for Random Acts!
If you’re still a little lost, check out the video below for everything you need to know about E4K!

The iconic “Be Someone” graffiti just two weeks after Hurricane Harvey flooded this road.
One year ago this weekend, I was sitting in my apartment in Huntsville, Texas, watching the angry red and yellow splotches sweep southeast Texas.
An aerial view of Hurricane Harvey on the coast of Texas in August 2017.
Thirty minutes south, my coworkers hunkered down in the office, still trying to do their jobs despite the pouring rain and whipping winds.
Two hours south, my mom and dad rode out the storm in my childhood home with our pets, just like Ike in 2008, and Rita in 2005.
And here was me, getting ready to drive into it so the public could stay informed and safe, well as safe as they could be given what was happening.
On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on San Jose Island as a Category 4 hurricane, then stayed like an unwelcome guest, dumping unprecedented torrential rains over Texas and causing $125 billion in damage in Houston and surrounding areas.
Many homes were flooded, sending thousands in the city into shelters like the George R Brown Convention Center and the NRG Center, where they would stay for days, unsure of the state of their home and belongings but fearing the worst.
Beloved Houston landmarks took on feet of water, including the Theatre District downtown. The historic Alley Theatre, which had just completed a full renovation in 2015, lost their Neuhaus Theatre and prop storage to 17 feet of water. According to the Houston Business Journal, these had been flooded in Tropical Storm Allison and these concerns were taken into consideration during the renovation, but Harvey’s levels surpassed Allison’s. Below is a video made by the Alley showing the devastation to their facilities following Harvey.
In my hometown area, the floodwaters destroyed Kingwood High School, forcing the school to close for the rest of the 2017-18 school year (which had just barely started) and the students to share nearby Summer Creek High School. Large swathes of Kingwood and Humble were underwater, including many locally-owned and operated businesses which are still slowly rebuilding even a year later.
US 59/69, a main thoroughfare through town, was impassable, with the rushing floodwaters actually picking up concrete barricades and washing them down the road like leaves on a stream. The FM 1960/59 area was basically a lake from all the water, businesses and hotels and homes flooded. Below is drone footage of the area by Deerbrook Mall, taken just a couple days after the rain stopped.
Down on the coast, cities like Rockport in Aransas County felt the first punches of Harvey, buildings and homes crumbling under the winds and rain. A year later, people are still unable to go home, and are unable to afford to rebuild.
Barricades moved with the force of the water on US 59 in Humble, Texas
A survey released this week by the Kaiser Family and Episcopal Health foundations found that 62 percent of people in coastal areas hit by Harvey, including Aransas County, suffered damage to their homes, while 27 percent said someone in their household experienced job or income loss. Eight percent of the respondents said they haven’t been able to return home. – The Texas Tribune
North in Montgomery County, the water swelled into Lake Conroe, forcing a dam release which sent feet of water rolling into homes around the lake and San Jacinto River, only doubling down on the damage already caused by the storm itself. Small towns like Woodloch, with only a population of around 250 people, were devastated, their infrastructure heavily damaged.
The days and weeks that followed Harvey were full of heartbreak, confusion and resilience as people struggled to get back to their homes and businesses still blocked by water and debris. In Rockport, they made a temporary courthouse out of an old hardware store in a month and a half, as the old one was decimated to a “pile of rubble and a slab of concrete.” In Woodloch, the mayor operated the town out of her own gutted home. In Conroe and Kingwood, restaurant owners, despite the damage to their businesses, opened their doors to feed first responders and help support staff now out of work. Quite a few of my friends would spend the next few months living out of hotels and couch surfing while their homes and apartments were gutted and rebuilt, the water soaking everything down to the studs in the walls.
Why am I telling you all of this?
So hopefully you realize how much impact even a small amount of help can give in the face of such devastation.
Before the storm was over, many organizations and especially the SPN Family was in gear, doing whatever they could think of to help, donating funds and items, helping with the rescue effort, organizing auctions and donation drives, checking in on those in the path of the storm and passing along much needed information to those worried about their loved ones.
The SPN Family also rallied behind the Stronger than Storms CrowdRise campaign, which to date has raised over $470K for national and Texas organizations helping residents with much needed necessities like diapers and pet care and providing assistance to low-income, uninsured or underinsured individuals and families.
Watching all of this unfold on social media brought me to tears, and still does, even twelve months later.
The fandom that stepped up to help my city and my home get back on the road to recovery post-Harvey is the fandom I fell in love with, a fandom of kindness and love for their fellow humankind. This is the SPN Family I know and love, the one I’m proud to be a part of.
If you were part of the rescue and recovery effort following Hurricane Harvey, let me personally say thank you. Thank you for all that you did for the people of Houston and the surrounding towns and cities. Thank you for donating. Thank you for organizing. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for everything.
Even if you don’t think you did anything beyond donating a few dollars or retweeting a link, you did. You gave hope where there was loss. You gave love where there was pain. You gave consolation where there was suffering.
And not just for Houston, but for Florida and Puerto Rico in the following months.
Because that’s what we do best.
We save people. We accomplish things.
That’s the #SPNFamily business.
So on behalf of a grateful city and state, thank you.
