Falcon and Winter Soldier to Get TV Series

A few months ago, Disney announced that it will be severing ties with Netflix at the end of this year in favor of making its own streaming service. This service will be the new home for many of the companies movies and TV shows. There have also been rumors of original content. Such as mini series for heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Not much is known about the streaming service in terms of cost or the budgeting for these mini series, but according to Variety both Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen have already been rumored to reprise their roles as Loki and Scarlet Witch for six to eight episode long TV series, and now it seems more fan favorites have joined the line up: Falcon and The Winter Solider.

Variety broke the news that Maclom Spellman (Empire) has been tasked to write a series for the two, though Marvel and Disney are still keeping mum on the project.

News of the development comes after Variety exclusively reported that Marvel and Disney were prepping multiple limited series centered on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who had yet to appear in their own standalone films. At that time, it was reported that characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch would also be the subject of their own limited series. The series are expected to be six to eight episodes.

Both Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) have been fan favorites since we first saw them on screen together in Captain America: The Winter Solider.

These shows-unlike the Marvel shows airing on Netflix- would be produced by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios.

‘Charmed’ Season 1, Episode 3 Recap: “Sweet Tooth”

When the episode begins, the sisters are battling a demon and it is not going well, as they are all distracted. Maggie is checking her cell phone, Macy is too much in her head, and Mel wants to charge in without thinking of a plan. They are about to lose, when it turns out to have been a training simulation from Harry – and they failed.

Mel’s girlfriend Nico almost caught her casting a spell in the attic and Macy making an egg float. Maggie is more concerned over trying to get into the sorority then with finding the demon. She doesn’t want her witch life to take over her social life. Macy is having a hard time not over-analyzing everything, and with coming to terms with her feelings for co-worker Galvin.

Macy discovers that sugar reacts badly with the demon, so she makes some cookies that they can give out to people to find which human the demon is possessing. Upon learning that Angela is out of her coma, Mel assumes the demon is in her and pays her a visit. Mel offers her a cookie and Angela eats it with no effect but, when Mel leaves, she pulls it out of her stomach and opens the fridge to reveal the head of a student and water bottles filled with blood that she drinks.

When Macy, Mel, and Harry get back to the house, they discover that Maggie is throwing a Halloween party for the sorority to get around the alcohol ban on the university’s campus. She makes the house, and her costume, look amazing by using a glamour spell, which Harry explains to her has consequences.

During the party, Nico has to leave because another body was found on campus. So far two students, and one nun have died. The sisters decide to go look for the demon and put a protection spell over the house. When it doesn’t work, Harry says that means the demon is already in the house. This demon lives on the blood of virgins, and while they are trying to figure out how to lure it out of the house, Macy cuts her hand – effectively using herself as bait.

The sisters lure the demon, who reveals herself as Angela, into the woods across from their house to get ready for the spell. Mel and Macy say their part of the spell but just as Maggie is about to say hers, she gets weak and falls. Harry tells Macy to run as he helps Maggie up, telling her she’s weak because of the personal gain spell she cast, so she ends the spell, making herself feel better. As the demon is about to get Macy, Mel – despite Harry repeatedly telling her not to – uses an energy blast, knocking all of them over. While the blast does stop the demon, it also has stopped Macy’s breathing. Harry heals her and tells them he will take care of the demon. Mel stays behind to apologize for being headstrong. Harry tells her he is only hard on her because she reminds him of Fiona, a witch who he watched over before, and died.

Back at the house Macy finally gives in and kisses Galvin, who feels the same way about her. Maggie meets Peter, who she had met twice before and there were sparks. Mel cancels an evening with her girlfriend because they have the demon chained up in their attic until the elders can respond.

SPN Cleveland Series: Louden Swain Delivers Best ‘Saturday Night Special’ Yet

If you’ve ever been to one of Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural conventions, then you know who Louden Swain is. And, they’re what makes Saturday nights so special at these conventions.

Cleveland marked my fourth Saturday Night Special concert seeing Swain, singer/songwriter Jason Manns, and the cast of Supernatural take to the stage to showcase their musical talents. This one felt a little different, however. Not only was the night of the concert the five year anniversary of front man Rob Benedict’s stroke, but the band had also released their new acoustic album ‘Splitting the Seams‘ early to fans at the convention.

While waiting in line for the concert, fans were handing out red bracelets that said “SPN Cleveland 2018” and a lyric from the band’s song ‘Reunion’ that says, “I’m still alive and I’m still trying.” They also were giving out red glow sticks with instructions to hold them up during the songs ‘Amazing’ and ‘She Waits’.

The band opened with ‘Reunion’, and after playing ‘Present Time’ brought out Matt Cohen to perform Wolfmother’s ‘Joker and the Thief’.

There was no denying you were at a rock concert anymore. Matt is always an amazing presence on stage at these concerts and this song was a great choice for the energy he brings to his performances.

After Matt left, the next song on the set list was another Swain song, ‘Downtown Letdown’. This is one of my absolute favorite songs, and finally getting to see the band perform it live was incredible.

Next up was ‘Silverspoon’, a song I haven’t seen the band perform since my very first SNS in April of 2016. Convention photographer Chris Schmelke joined the band on stage to play bass on the song. Next up, the band performed a track from the acoustic album, and that was ‘Overachiever.’ Another of my favorite Swain songs, hearing not only this song, but this version of the song was an amazing experience. The next celebrity performer to take the stage was Ruth Connell, and she and Rob sang Garbage’s ‘#1 Crush’.

The next performance is honestly what made the show for me. ‘Rock Song’ was a song I had never heard the band perform live, and it was the first time they had performed this song as an acoustic version at the Saturday Night Concerts. The sound, style and feel of the song was totally changed. I had chills. Rob’s voice was raw and powerful when he sang the lyrics, “where are all my friends?” What the band originally wrote as a faster paced song, had now been turned into a melancholy ballad. By the time the final verse ended, I had been brought to tears, and was sitting in my seat just stunned at the performance.

Kim Rhodes was up next, and I couldn’t have picked a better song for her if I tried. Kim owned the stage as she belted out No Doubt’s ‘I’m Just a Girl’. She finished the song with the line, “I’ve had it up to here”, middle finger raised high in the air.

Rob introduced the next song ‘Angela’, talking about how it was written about his stroke and his recovery. Fans – myself included – joined in loudly singing along to the verse, “you set me right.”

Briana Buckmaster followed up Kim’s performance, singing ‘Olive Branch’ with Rob – a song he wrote for her debut album. I nearly jumped out of my seat when the opening chords started to this song, because it is my favorite song on her album, and I had been hoping they would perform it.

Jason joined the band on stage next to perform songs by The Station Breaks – ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Stowaway’.  There was a part during their performance of ‘Hallelujah’ where Rob and Jason stopped singing, and just let the crowd sing the lyrics. Hearing all those voices chiming in together, and the look on Rob and Jason’s faces is something I won’t soon forget.

Red glow sticks were up in the air all over the room for the next song ‘Amazing’. Fans waved the glow sticks in time to the music as Rob sang. I’ve seen the band perform this song a few times. The first time was when it was a brand new and still upcoming release for their album ‘No Time Like the Present’ in 2016.

The band performed another song from that album next ‘This is How’. My favorite part of when the band performs this song is how Rob gets the crowd to interact with him during the song. The back and forth of him singing one set of lyrics, and then the call back from the crowd is always so much fun. This was the final song the band performed, before Mark Pellegrino came on stage to call the band back for an encore.

The glow sticks made a return as the band launched into ‘She Waits’. This is another of my favorite songs. And I love to see it performed live, because of the atmosphere in the room and with the band and with the crowd. After the final verse was sung, the glow sticks went down, and the heart hands went up from both the audience, and from Rob on stage.

The final song of the night was ‘Mamma’s Jam’ and what a way to close out the night. Not only did the cast that had performed that night return to the stage – now joined by Alexander Calvert and Mark Pellegrino – but they soon took to the aisles, running around and ramping the crowd up as the band performed. Fans took to the aisles, the house lights came on, and soon Rob and Billy were playing and running through the aisles.

All to soon however, it was over. Rob, Billy, Mike and Stephen came to the stage and gave their final bows after closing out what may have been the best Saturday Night Special concert I’ve been to.

Louden Swain ‘Splitting the Seams’ Album Release Party Review

Courtesy of Illy @superinspired67

Friday night’s show at The Study in Hollywood marked the official debut of a brand new acoustic album from Louden Swain. Like other Louden Swain shows, the release party for Splitting the Seams was fun, engaging, and intimate. Despite some venue issues, this show truly captured the spirit of the band and what they have been building for twenty years.

Louden Swain delivered a set that had both old and new fans hooked from the start. Rob Benedict was delightfully amusing and emotional, cementing him firmly in place as this reviewer’s favorite front man. Billy Moran’s masterful guitar-playing was on point, as usual. Mike Borja’s bass and keyboard playing was delightful and exuded happiness. Stephen Norton’s drumming was the heartbeat of the band, and it was nice to see him perform an acoustic set in a setting outside of conventions. Departing from tradition, the songs were performed out of order, allowing the gravity of emotional songs to be offset by lighter pieces, and creating an emotional dynamic that was satisfying in a way that only Louden Swain can deliver. True to form, Rob engaged with the crowd to an exhilarating degree.

All in all, the success of this concert rests squarely on the bands shoulders. They delivered a phenomenal show to celebrate the release of a phenomenal album.

Supernatural Cleveland Series: Highlights and Lessons Learned From My First Convention

The Giving Back Tour Convention in Cleveland was not only the first ever Supernatural Convention in Ohio, it was also the first convention ever for me. Believe me, I’d watched every panel possible online but nothing could have prepared me for the energy in that Convention Hall. Misha Collins was headlining the convention and true to form for him, it was focused on ways to make the world a kinder and weirder place. Donations were being made to Family Promise of Greater Cleveland as part of the event and there were lots of activities focused on showing kindness to others. This being my first experience with a fandom convention, I thought it helpful to share some highlights and lessons learned.

Highlights:

Panels

Let’s face it, we’re there to see the actors and musicians we admire. We want to ask them questions, hear their stories, scream and yell with everyone else. Admittedly when I was planning the day I thought there were some panels I was going to skip in favor of doing other things but I found that even the panels I originally was less interested in were really engaging. The general mood in the room was joyful and expectant and some of the guests are the complete opposite of their characters. I’m looking at you David Haydn-Jones and Adam Fergus!

Supernatural actors are really attuned to the fans and this was made more evident by the interactive games during the panels that are a special feature of The Giving Back Tour.  For example, Ruth Connell taught us a flash mob dance to perform during Collins’ panel that was a total success. Rob Benedict and Matt Cohen struggled mightily through Charades to try to get their fan participants to guess “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, though I wondered if they were old enough to know the song! Yes, these activities cut into Q&A time a bit but when else are you going to have Misha Collins yelling at you to get back to your trailer as you pretend to be an actor doing a scene from Supernatural?

Tip: Make time for the panels you don’t think you’ll enjoy.  I attended one of the panels I was initially going to skip and I was really glad I did.

Photo Ops and Autographs

Photo ops and/or autographs with some of our favorite people can be a major source of anxiety for some of us, I know it was for me. I purchased the tickets for my photo ops and autographs as soon as they were available online and then proceeded to stress about how that experience would turn out until the moment it was over. That may not be something you struggle with and if so, that’s fantastic!  I have to give credit to Chris Schmelke and the staff that work with him during the photo ops.  The music and atmosphere helps everyone to relax a bit and if you find yourself feeling extremely anxious, there is staff there specifically to provide support. The line moved really quickly which definitely helped to keep anxiety down since there wasn’t a lot of time to worry. My photo ops were with Briana Buckmaster, then later with Misha and both of them were incredibly friendly and warm, especially considering the number of people waiting to have a picture with them. Their attitude about this brief moment spent with each fan is a gift and made it a memorable experience for me.

Tip:  Be respectful of the person you’re having your photo op or autograph with. Follow the guidelines set forth by the guests handlers and Creation Entertainment.

A Shared Experience

One of the things that isn’t talked about much is the shared experience with fellow attendees. Even if you go by yourself, you’ll find that you’re laughing and screaming along with your seat mates, reassuring the person ahead of you in line for autographs when they feel nervous, or crying in the bathroom after ops because you’re just so overwhelmed by the experience of being so close to someone you’ve adored from afar. What? Just me? Moving on then.

This particular convention took me far out of my comfort zone with Escape from Perdition.  GISH sponsored the game and asked attendees to complete nine random acts of kindness from a list of thirty four potential activities that involved things such as grabbing three friends and singing your favorite rock song in four-part harmony or making a devil’s trap out of human bodies. Yes, that happened. I was so uncomfortable but in the end, it was an awesome experience and I’m so glad I participated. Plus, I got to take home a really cute angel pin!  If you completed nine of a much smaller list of activities you would receive a Random Acts Halo Coin. It was definitely a nice memento to take home and remember the ridiculous things you did in the name of kindness.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to chat with the people around you. Many people are feeling the same way you are and probably would love to have someone to talk to as well! Some of the best memories I have are of people who offered a kind word to me when I was overwhelmed after photo ops.

Lessons Learned:

Be Prepared

There is no guarantee that there will be working vending machines or restaurants at the Hotel or Convention Center, this is especially true if you have special dietary needs. Sometimes the best time to eat is during a panel because other ticketed activities are going on and you may not have any down time to grab lunch.

Also, portable chargers for your phone, especially if you like to take pictures.  It will save you the hassle of trying to find an electrical outlet along with everyone else who has a cell phone that is on the verge of death and needs to call an Uber.

Be Flexible

If you’re going to the convention to see someone specific understand that they may end up cancelling or may be moved at the last minute to another day. This is especially prone to happen if they’re filming. When I purchased tickets, I only purchased two of the three days because everything I wanted to see was happening on Friday and Saturday.  When Misha had to change his appearance to Sunday, Creation offered to accept Saturday tickets for Sunday admittance to try to accommodate the fans. If you can afford it, go for the weekend pass. You’ll have the same seat all weekend and you won’t have to worry about a schedule change.

You should know also that the actual schedule for the Con doesn’t come out until a couple weeks before so if you’re planning to do things in the evening that aren’t related to the convention you may need to wait to plan them until closer to the actual date.

Matt Cohen – Courtesy of Emily Cole, Staff Editor

Be Kind

The staff at the Convention is there to help you. Always treat the staff with kindness and make sure to watch the website for the convention you are attending in the days and weeks before for any updates and/or changes.

Finally, be kind to yourself. You’re going to be tired, especially if you’re rooming with friends! Try to get plenty of rest and to stay hydrated. Set reminders on your phone if you have scheduled medications to take or need to eat at certain times. Try to keep expectations reasonable as well. Photo ops and autographs move very quickly, especially with headlining guests so the likelihood that you’ll have the conversation you’ve played out in your head a million times is pretty low.  Enjoy the little things like a shared smile, a hug, or a “thank you” that’s meant just for you.

I was so glad to be able to go and experience this convention with other Supernatural fans.

Update: Matt Cohen Adds New Perks, Reaches $22,000 on Campaign for ‘Mama Bear’

0

Matt Cohen launched an Indiegogo Campaign for his feature directorial debut for Mama Bear, and has already raised over $22,000!

The goal is to raise $100,000, to be able to bring you the best, kick-ass short film. The short, as Matt told us, has a female main character that, “has 24 hours to save her four year old and find him a liver transplant, and the only viable donor is the ex-kingpin/drug lord/piece of s*** boyfriend of hers.” Matt talked about wanting to see a kick-ass female on screen, and wanting it to feel like, “the female Punisher in a sense.” It’s slated to be a short film, which he hopes will eventually turn into a feature-length film. As of now, his plans are to shoot the short in four days, with production hopefully wrapping in mid-November.

Mama Bear will star Matt’s wife, the incredibly talented Mandy Musgrave (South of Nowhere, Kings of Con) as the title character. Other familiar names will appear in the short that you may know, including Rob Benedict, Richard Speight, Jr., Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Jason Manns, Jim Beaver, and Adam Fergus.

Matt has added a bunch of new perks since originally launching the campaign, such as as personal video shoutout, temporary tattoos, South of Nowhere signed script, a gift certificate to Stands and more. More perks are certainly going to end up popping up as the campaign continues.

Donate to Matt’s campaign here, and help get this short film made! If you don’t have the means to donate, share, tweet, post, etc. with as many people as you can!
